The sushi was very fresh and they had quick service. We got the in n out roll, crazy horse and the heart attack appetizer. We called in the order for pick up and it was ready in 10 min. Of course the hubby loved the heart attack the most(fried jalapeño, spicy tuna and cream cheese). I think my fav was the crazy horse. It was all very good and fresh, but nothing specific stood out to me.

Sushi By The Bay is by far one of the best sushi restaurants in Monterey, California. The quality and taste of the food is better than what you will find at restaurants that are far more expensive. You can also order food that is not on the menu; I would recommend ordering the«Special Roll» as this is my personal favorite. The Smoked Trout, Seared Tuna, Yakisoba, Ramen, Udon, Curry and Donburi are also incredibly delicious. The service from the staff is impeccable and the atmosphere is quiet and classy. Look no further for an awesome sushi experience.

Sushi is of a good quality, service is generally just okay. Been here a few times and am never impressed with anything. Haven’t had a bad experience in terms of fish quality, had some relatively flavorless fishes but everything has definitely been within it’s okay to eat window. Their sushi rice is made well, rolls do not fall apart, fish quality is fine, roll combinations are uninspiring and with the quality/freshness of ingredients ordering a traditional maki or nigiri/sashimi is underwhelming as the quality is not top notch.

Good stuff! I had it delivered through Doorbell Dining, and the Philadelphia roll was so delicious! I’m not a big sushi person, but I definitely will be eating there again!

This is a really good sushi place. We came here because our motel was across the street and it was convenient. Pros: my husband loved their vegetarian tempura roll. There vegetable tempura and miso soup appetizers were really good. I also loved the aesthetic of the establishment. Our waitress was really nice and refilled our drinks regularly. Cons: my salmon roll was okay. Not the worst… I wish they had more baked options on the menu, or simplified baked options. All of their rolls were crazy…

I have eaten here in the past and remember it being good but, last time I went in I think they had just mopped the floors or something, it stunk so bad I lost my appetite and had to leave.

This is without a doubt Americanized Sushi… but then again… most sushi we get in this country is… so with that said. The Sushi here is good and delicious… but nothing spectacular. You won’t be disappointed going for Sushi here… but you wont be wowed either.

To really appreciate this place, you need to be into innovative maki. The proprietors are quite creative; I won’t spoil any surprises by detailing the menu in this area. Having been sandbagged by having it announced it was my birthday, I was treated to a more lavish spread of maki than I generally encounter in four or five Japanese restaurant visits. We have had more traditional fare in this establishment as well, and it was fresh and wholesome, if pedestrian. There are other places I would go if I were not in the mood for maki zushi, and consider as good, but none I’d consider more creative in maki. Not the most kinds of maki, just the most kinds I’ve never seen anywhere else. If your party is mixed in terms of some wanting traditional Japanese dishes and some wanting creative California-style sushi, this is probably your ideal choice, as they do both more than competently.

I dislike saying negative things, but had to mention that dining at at this restaurant was one of the worst experience I had in a long time. Tables outside on deck was dirty and not clean and spider webs everywhere, the least that they can do is buy new tables for the seats outside. Food was awful and no flavor a at all. Honesty, when we got home me and my wife got sick for the rest of the night. Bad bad experience and bad bad food. Sorry had to say that but it was honestly and awful place to go eat at.

We love this place! Can’t say enough good things about it! They have specials from 5pm on of rolls, sake and sushi. We go on Mondays where it is Dollar Sushi! Yes dollar shush! The Ono is my favorite with large pieces and a sauce with red onions on top. There is also yellowtail, salmon, red tuna. albacore and shrimp… dollar each piece! The lunch special of 2 items for 7 bucks is a great deal. Teriyaki, tonkatsu, croque, all delish. The staff is friendly and attentive. It gets packed! Go ahead and give it a try, you won’t be disappointed in the sushi or cooked specialities!

So far this little place has proven to be a good sushi spot for me and the family. The servers are friendly and the sushi is plated beautifully and is pretty fresh. The rolls are also a good size and they have a wide variety to chose from. Their Tornado roll is pretty decadent and is definitely worth trying. Also they have a vegetable roll that I was really impressed with as a lot of other sushi places that have similar veggie roll offerings taste fairly bland and lack in presentation. The veggie roll here was elegant, flavorful and under $ 10 which was really nice. Especially great if you aren’t a big fan of fish or you’re a vegetarian. The restaurant has a nice eclectic mix of japanese décor and feels very cozy. If its a nice day outside they also have outdoor patio seating. Also I just found out that you can get delivery through Doorbell Dining that is separate company they do business with…( ) In a nutshell, good sushi, fair prices and a nice environment :)

We have been living in Carmel for the past two years and this is by far our favorite sushi place in the area. We have lived all over California, including San Diego, which had some amazing sushi, and we feel this is comparable. Not only is the food excellent(especially the Heart Attack appetizer), but the chefs and staff are incredibly sweet and attentive. They make our favorite spicy sauce as soon as we walk through the door. =) Many who are visiting automatically think to go to another place closer to Cannery Row, but it is definitely worth taking a little stroll to Sushi By The Bay!

Delicious sushi and nice variety on the menu. Service was nice and ambiance was casual. I ordered the crunch and caterpillar rolls, since I’m pregnant and can’t have any of the yummy raw sushi I prefer. Both were fresh and yummy. I started with edamame and the complimentary miso is a nice touch. I would def come back and would recommend.

Great service, great rolls. Takeout took me overall less then 5 minutes to come in, order, get the sushi and leave! The rice is very nice, and the fish is very fresh. Also, the patio here is very cute, even though it faces a busy street.

The wait was far too long at Mundos so I decided to head over to Sushi by the Bay. Clearly, I haven’t been back in quite some time. This time I decided to order the Katsudon Donburri Bowl(pork cutlet). The pork was relatively tender and had a great crispy golden crust. There was a sufficient amount of flavor from the sauce and wished there was a little more because everything else was bland. I appreciated that everything was piping hot, the vegetables were fresh and crisp but it needed salt. Overall Thoughts With a few refinements I believe Sushi by the Bay has good potential and hopefully can capitalize on the traffic from Mundos!
