16.00 bucks for a double cheese burger fries and a drink… For that price I expected this to be the best burger in Texas. I appreciated the smoke flavor but that’s all I enjoyed. Other than that, it was pretty bland and dry. For the price, never again.

Fast, friendly, SUPER clean dining area and bathroom. Prices are incredible for the quality and quantity of food you get. I recommend and will return for sure.

Okay, I have to take a moment to rave about how amazing this place is. My family and I ate here earlier this week because we are new to this area and it came up on a Google search of restaurants near where we were. I am SO happy that we tried it. We have 3 people in our family, and all of us have different tastes in food. I got the pork loin and it was the best I’ve ever had from a restaurant. My boyfriend got a baked potato with chopped brisket and my 6 year old daughter got a bacon cheeseburger with fries. We were all extremely impressed with both the service and the food. And the peach cobbler is wonderful! Also, there’s an amazing bakery that is part of the restaurant and it’s just as delicious. If you are craving good barbecue or desserts, come here.

Great Bar-b-q chopped pork sandwich! Also we just ordered a smoked ham. It was very tasty. I can’t speak for the burgers, but I plan to try shortly.

My family and I dined in here the other night. We had the same great service as we always do. This is our family burger spot and it always brings a smile to the children when they find out we are going. I am amazed at the negative reviews some have posted. It just does not make sense.

Had lunch here on December 5, 2014 at 10:50AM. Ordered the two meat plate(sliced brisket and sausage). The brisket was obviously reheated leftovers from the day before(very dry and had that faint«old grease taste»). The sausage tasted like it was reheated too. The two sides I picked were beans and potato salad. The beans were straight from the can and had no flavor. The potato salad was average. There were only 4 packages of sliced bread on the«fixins» bar and they were left over from the day before and dried out. The tea tastes like mildew because the tea pots have never been cleaned out. They do not cook the meat at this location. The meat is cooked in Conroe and brought to this location. If you want fresh bbq, try the Conroe location and hopefully it won’t be leftovers from the day before. It also raises a red flag when I see the same guy who prepared my meal cleaning the restrooms. Will not be back.

This is the most awful BBQ place I’ve been to in Texas! The service was lacking, they have employees standing around while people are waiting. If you’re expecting to get in and get out fast, go elsewhere or bring a book. Get the McRib, it’ll be better and cheaper!!!

I picked up an order to go on our way out of Lake Conroe today. I had a sampling of: Ribs: Excellent, their best meat. Great rub on the ribs with just a little sweetness and it had the proper smoky flavor and was tender without being mushy or falling too easily off the bone. Turkey: Good smoky flavor, was moist. Decent bark. Good quality bird was used. Brisket: Got a lean piece, it was cut think, little on the drier side but hat a small smoke ring and a little crust which is more than most places have on their brisket in this area. Overall, it was better than I expected after having a few fails in the area. There are the 10 Commandments and other Jesusy stuff on the wall, just in case that bothers you. As a BBQ joint I would definitely return next time we’re in town, no idea how their burgers stack up.

Everything that I have eaten here has been great! Favorites are: RIBS!!! They make the best! The hamburgers are good along with the onion rings and fried jalapeño’s!

Very good brisket and pulled pork. The ribs left something to be desired. I can’t speak for the burgers. Only two flavors of sauce, regular(not too bad) hot(not really). I prefer to wash my BBQ down with a cold beer, which was not an option here. Atmosphere was like having dinner at church(10 commandments on the wall, Christian rock on the radio, etc) which I am assuming is par for the course in rural Texas. Did not have facilities for recycling of glass, etc. Which again i am going to assume is the norm in Texas.

Comparable to school cafeteria food. If you like fried dough with no taste you will love their chicken. If you like tasteless burgers with no seasoning you will like their burgers.

Okay… I’m from Utah. I’ve had some BBQ here, and I love ribs… I don’t claim to be an expert, but damn, this was gooooood BBQ. A friend from Houston came to visit me when I was visiting Austin a couple of weeks ago. She was a welcome sight and not just because she brought over tons of ribs, brisket, sausage, beans, and coleslaw… oh and the banana pudding. Don’t forget the banana pudding. Sigh. Is it bad to eat BBQ3 mornings in a row, plus a midnight snack? The ribs were perfectly spiced(dry rubbed) and the sauce was tangy with just the right balance of sweet and spice. The brisket was so moist… it was good on its own, but taken to a new level when combined with a bite of coleslaw and beans. The coleslaw has pickles in it, and is made with white and red cabbage. You can tell fresh coleslaw because if it has red cabbage in it, it turns pinkish purple in the morning. Not that that affects the taste at all… it’s best the first day, but man it’s good the rest of them too. The banana pudding was rich and creamy and I don’t EVEN want to know what the ingredients are. A couple of tablespoons is the perfect serving… the first serving, because I always went back for seconds. But it’s so rich and creamy I savored every bit of it. I hear they have an cookies and crème pudding… I can only imagine. Check it out… now I just need to figure out how to get it from Texas to Utah. I love travelling :)

Before I write my review, I will say that I only tried McKenzie’s for take-out, which was picked up by someone else. Therefore, I have never set foot inside the restaurant. Four of us brought home burgers from McKenzie’s. MEH. McKenzie’s touts«BURGERSANDBARBECUE»…maybe the barbecue is better than the burgers. We were all in general agreement that the burgers were pretty dry and flavorless. They reminded me of the kind of burger you would get from, say, a Mexican restaurant, or some other type of restaurant where it has been added to the menu for people who don’t like the predominant cuisine. Below average. Between the four of us, we shared an order of onion rings, an order of fried pickles, an order of fries, and an order of jalapeño bottle caps. The sides were HUGE. Each side was easily enough for 3 – 4 people to share. The onion rings were more like onion STRINGS. Very thin and greasy, with tons of breading. Picture something you might see atop a burger. The fried pickles were decent, though slightly salty. The fries were bland and dried out. Ick. The jalapeño bottle caps were actually quite tasty. Thin sliced with just the right amount of heat, and not too much breading. If we go back here, I will try the BBQ. I will say that the boys, who picked up our food, stated that this place is mega-kid friendly. But so is McDonald’s, and they might serve up a better burger.
