So far we have only gone for a late lunch. Service has always been good and food has been great.

Absolutely awful. We waited over 30 minutes for our dinner in an almost empty restaurant. Both steaks ordered were incorrectly cooked, one was over and one was under. The undercooked steak was then way over cooked after sending it back. We also ordered chicken and dumplings which had a consistency similar to gravy and absolutely no flavor. The waitress barely checked on us the entire time and didn’t offer a single apology. I should have trusted my instinct regarding the giant help wanted sign out front. Let me tell you, they desperately need help!

Our 1st bad experience here. Normally very efficient for breakfast. Our waitress apparently got lost somewhere. After 20 minutes and others getting their food even though they arrived 5 minutes later, we asked another waitress to see what was taking so long. A few minutes later our original waitress brought our food out barely warm. Our terrible waitress was Marilyn.

This is a great little find if you are riding or driving thru the Sam Houston national forest. Each and every nice weekend we take our Harley’s and this is our first and only choice for breakfast. Food is always consistent and the staff are extremely nice. They always seem slow to take your order or bring you food but my wife made realize That we are just too used to living in the city. I normally get the 222. 2 eggs, 2 bacon, 2 pancakes. Can’t go wrong.

Horrible. This is the worst breakfast I have had in a really long time. I had the Eggs Benedict which was a mess, the sauce was not good and the eggs were not cooked enough they still had a lot of clear liquid. Not to mention we waiting nearly 45 minutes for our food and there was only two of us. By the looks of the other customers we were not the only ones frustrated with the wait. Looked like the owners were there and they did not talk to one customer or ofter to help their staff that obviously could not handle the crowd. We will not be returning here.

Visited again today, and my previous review stands… This place is amazing! It doesn’t get any better. I absolutely love that they give you the cheese, sour cream, bacon for your potatoes in a large center dish… The bacon is real and you can go nuts on the toppings. This place is one of the few great things around Houston that hasn’t changed. The waitresses are always friendly and get the job done right. Steaks are cooked to perfection and the sides… Oh my! The ranch is perfect and I am very picky about ranch… And the onion rings are the best I’ve ever had, not greasy at all. A++

Ate breakfast here. I was not that impressed. They just crumbled a sausage patty on top of their gravy and called it sausage gravy, however my boyfriend enjoyed it. I had the country eggs Benedict. The hollandaise sauce was decent the eggs were undercooked and placed atop a delicious slice of ham. Under all that was wheat toast, which after a few bites got soggy and gross. The hash browns were not as crispy as I would have liked. My kids enjoyed their pancakes :)

Treated rudely by the waitress over my misreading the total on the check. As we have been regular customers of this restaurant and served by this waitress numerous times, dumbfounded by her choice of handling this. Needless to say, we will not return.

Old Montgomery Steakhouse made Father’s Day a rushed and awkward experience for my family. We arrived a few mins before 2:00. Apparently they were closing early and we missed the small sign on the door on the way in. Everyone in the restaurant turned to stare at us while the workers argued about who would take our table. «Just give it to so and so» was the final verdict. After we ordered drinks the waitress announced that the restaurant closed 5 mins ago but they would«go ahead and serve us». She then proceeded to tell us that since we were the last customers, they would not make any more sweet tea, they were out of salad(which I saw a salad delivered to the table next to us a few mins later), and they were out of okra. She brought out some cold bread while we were waiting for our food. Overall, the entrees were good, but not outstanding. As soon as the second to last table left, the waitress came over and announced that we were the last table left in the restaurant. Obviously we would be the last table since we were the last to arrive and the last to receive our food… The waitress cleared our table and brought the check while my dad was still trying to finish his steak. An older gentleman(owner?) sat across the restaurant and stared us down to the point that I was uncomfortable and didn’t stop staring until we started to get up to leave. If these people didn’t want our business, then they should have told us that they were closed from the beginning… We would have gladly taken our business elsewhere.

Steak house may be a little misleading although I believe you can get steak with something all day long. This is a great little 3 squares restaurant. We mainly come here for breakfast which is always good. They make their own bread and seem to do all the dishes well. You can even order eggs individually or egg white only on request. The breakfast tacos are really good, have them add grilled onions and peppers as well. Prices are inexpensive.

Homemade bread, mashed potatoes and gravy were the perfect compliment to my filet mignon lunch. Everything was delicious. My only complaint about the food is that my salad was made with iceberg lettuce instead of mixed greens. Service was prompt. Dated décor.

The food is «home cooking.» That means lots of fried stuff, cream gravy, and canned veggies. Their weekday lunch specials(around $ 8) are a great bargain for one meat, two sides, a salad and bread. The grilled and sauteed items, such as tilapia and chicken breast, are excellent. The salad is chopped iceberg lettuce. The margarine is sometimes melted in the container which I don’t like. They make their own soups which are consistently nice. They also bake their own bread which is a treat. I don’t care for the service and attitude, but it’s a family-owned restaurant in a small town. The attitude makes me feel that they could care less whether customers eat there or not. For example, the place has rigid RULES. When breakfast is over(at 11 most days and 12 on Sunday), it’s OVER. I have seen them turn away a family group that wanted breakfast on Sunday at 12:01. My experience is that the service is uneven, sometimes competent but sometimes slow and inaccurate. Forgotten silverware and incomplete orders happen annoyingly often. I don’t care for the staff’s «friendliness,» which I find intrusive to the point of rudeness. To me, it is inappropriate for a waitress to comment on the customer’s food preferences, such as asking«how long have you been eating the same thing?» I also don’t care for waitresses who interrupt conversations at the table during a meal. Again, the attitude that comes across to me is that the customer doesn’t matter at all. I confess that I eat there at least 4 times a week but, sigh, it’s the best of limited choices. There’s free wifi.

We got to the restaurant today(father’s day) and for a party of 8 they told us 45 minutes. Due to the amount of time to wait we walked down the street after 20 minutes we came back to check on the status of our wait time only to be told they called our name but no one was here to claim the table so our name was take. Off the list. Generally in the food industry wait lists are made according to the amount of parties already on the list 1 – 9 on wait is 5 – 15 quoted wait time 10 – 20 is 15 – 25 20 – 25 is 25 – 35 If tables are sitting and talking after paying you«up quote» by 5 mins. If patties are 8+ you up quote by 10 mins. Had she done it correctly our quoted wait time would should have been 15 – 25 mins. When we asked to see a manager after our name was taken off the list the host refused to go get him/her. She then proceeded to talked badly about our party to a coworker while we were still standing in front of her. This is by far the most unprofessional thing that she could have done.

Thought we would try this place out but not sure we should have… I ordered the ribeye — medium. While the 12 oz was a good sized steak, it was by no means medium. It was pretty well done. Only one part had any pink. It didn’t have much flavor at all. My husband got one of the combo platters — he said the catfish had an extremely fishy taste and the crab cakes were VERY dark — had been fried way too long. The only halfway good part of the dish were the fried shrimp. It’s a quaint place amongst the antique stores in old Montgomery, but the food was very mediocre. I doubt we’ll be back.

We came for lunch to this spot. The food was way over priced and we ordered the chicken po boy Sandwich, kids burgers, and chicken fried steak. The sandwich tasted like two day old chicken. The chicken fried steak was okay but the gravy was too salty. After we left my husband ended up getting sick and throwing up. I do not recommend this place to any one. The food is just not worth getting sick.

Fantastic restaurant!!! The owner Lloyd personally came by our table. He is so friendly and helpful. Homemade cornbread & bread, great steak(get it chard med. Or med. raw), great fish pecan crusted Mahi Mahi, and other choices I didn’t try. Love Montgomery & really enjoyed the steak house. Small town feel Big on flavor.

I made what is evidently the serious mistake of arriving at noon on a Sunday as they were transitioning from the breakfast menu to the lunch menu. Forty(40) minutes later my order arrived. A very underwhelming grilled chicken sandwich and tasteless potato salad. Don’t think I’ll be back.

This is a very friendly place. Schuyler was a wonderful waitress. There was a nice guitarist/singer to provide entertainment. The rib eye steak and catfish were delicious. We were looking for some local flavor and we found it at the Old Montgomery Steak House.

We were in Montgomery visiting a friend and by 2:00 we were starving! We drove by and thought we would give it a try. The place was very messy. I guess they hadn’t cleaned up from the lunch crowd there were crumbs all over the floor. The waitstaff was nice and helpful and we were seated right away. My friends had the chicken fried steak and said it was good. I had the grilled chicken and it was very dry. I had to eat it with the vegetables to help with the dryness. Good service but not my favorite place.
