Monticello Bagel

The best bagels. Period. Best eggs. Best service. Best people. I’ve been coming here for years visiting from NY on the weekends. And I could not find a better tasting bagel anywhere bagels are made.

Let me tell you something. You’ve had a bagel. Ok. No offense. That bagel was complete and total shit compared to the way a bagel is supposed to be, at the Monticello bagel bakery. I’ve been spoiled all my life with bagel Sunday’s with my family every Sunday a tradition since before I was even born. My father brings my grandmother a cinnamon raisin bagel with cream cheese every Sunday. That is law, that’s how it is.
For real though?
Monticello is the Mecca of bagels. I know a lot of people who overnight a dozen bagels. Or even if You end up in Monticello some morning because of a concert or flat out poor decision… Do yourself a favor and walk inside the Monticello bagel bakery. You can order a hot egg meat cheese combo of your selection and it is simply hangover helper.
A fresh, hot, water bagel in the historic Monticello bagel bakery is by far the most undisputed bagel on the planet. The Catskills mountains have the richest water. The most acclimated residence to house everything it takes to create something perfect.
Tell California to keep they’re jalapeño bagels. Everything bagel with scallion cream cheese and lox… Perfection. That’s the NY OG. Bacon, egg, muenster cheese, with scallion cream cheese and hot sauce… Those are the days you wake up wearing someone else’s clothes and the pockets are filled with unwrapped candy and a bunch of foreigners phone numbers. Weird stuff happens in Monticello.

OK not only did I grow up in Queens, but live in Baltimore where Goldbergs rules the bagel hierachy. This past weekend my wife and I returned to an area that is near and dear to me for many reasons. These bagels are amazing. The staff behind the counter friendly and efficient and the coffee is excellent. Also the prices are very reasonable. Well worth the stop!

Tried their bagels for the first time at bagel fest. Only place with a long line so I knew something must be good… From that point I was hooked. I’m from longuyland, so we know bagels. Brought a dozen to my family and they were impressed too. Very soft, a little bit chewy, and surprisingly light. I’ve definitely eaten two in one sitting on a few occasions

I live in NYC and only eat bagels here. What’s up with the negative reviews, people? These bagels are aaamazing!!! Never tasted them any better. Always fresh. Service is usually good, except they do get very crowded on Summer Sundays, mostly by my own family members! lol Their prices seem a little steep for Monticello, though.

Filthy, quirky and delicious. The place uses painted bagels as décor and has a drive through bagel window. Which is hilarious when you consider it’s situated on the main drag of a town that hasn’t seen a glory day for about 25 years. They have all the traditional bagels and a few interesting options like cranberry walnut. The bagels are water boiled and baked. They are also normal size rather than the inflated ones you get at more commercial bagel places. There is always a line and everybody is hustling. The bagels are amazing. Chewy, crispy and soft all at the same time. Only problem is, is that it is filthy. Love you upstate, but it’s time to take a little pride.

Although I can get a breakfast sandwich at almost any gas station, I used to LOVE their bacon/​egg/​cheese/​tomato on a sesame bagel. Absolutely delicious and the sandwich is huge!!! I haven’t been there in a while since I’ve been low-​carbing it, but once I’m done dieting, I will review again.

Fresh, chewy, delicious bagels. Didn’t buy anything else here, but we will be back for the bagels again. The best we found during our whole trip to NY.

Good bagels. And their french toast bagels are great too!

Bagels were just OK. They were the size of a softball and were more bread-​like with little chewiness and density. Probably the best in the area but not deserving of the star rating given.

Wow out the door line today at the bagel festival. One of the best french toast bagels Ive had. I hope to see another festival next year.
I saw there’s still a minimum for credit cards. $ 7 is a high minimum.

Born and raised in Liberty, NY, we would drive to the Monticello Bagel Bakery just to get our bagels. This place is an Upstate NY institution and whenever we visit the area this is the first place we stop. Not too much else happening on Broadway these days, but don’t let the dilapidated main street deter you. My Buffalonian husband is obsessed. They just don’t make them the same in WNY.

These guys make great bagels. and they have a drive thru no less! Personally I have bagels with butter or breakfast sandwich ones, and they are all terrific here. They sell some other things too, lunch sandwiches, some jams and jellies, but Ive never tried any of those.
The help here is also very friendly.

Was born in Monticello! And was exceptionally happy and proud to introduce my Midwestern born husband to REAL NEW YORK bagels here! It was here when I was a kid and it’s still here. Does that need anything else to say what great bagels this place has?! Ohhhhh, the memories! Ohhh the delicious smells and tastes! Take me back, please!!! Just a day’s drive from Indiana and I am in heaven!!!
