Tried the restaurant for the first time and was pleasantly surprised by the large portion of fish and chips. Crispy and flavorful. Great sauces and freshly made. Just yummmmmy. My sever was Frank and he was funny, polite and prompt. Really went out of his way to make sure we were well taken care of and made us feel like VIPs. More waiters/servers should be like him! Highly recommend this nice restaurant

My update sucks because they seem to have made a decision to have only one person on floor doing all 9 jobs thus leaving you with empty glasses and no food for some time and the bar tender with the black fedora hat needs some caffeine he was slow and very unfriendly our last two visits not going back for a while I hope management kicks it in the butt before it dies like the last place did

Today we were craving breakfast bacon, eggs the works. Well, the food was basically something I can easily make at home nothing special, good but not great. I’m not going to lie we ate up to every last bite. The service wasn’t the best, they took forever to acknowledge us they were a few waitress & possibly the hostess that saw us standing there that couldn’t even say«one moment plz» after we sat down the waitress took a long time to get us water & to take our order. The funny part about the whole experience was that my sister had ordered sausage or was it bacon can’t remember it has been a while we went for mothers day [forgot to finish my review] so… she came out & said«we are out of bacon/sausage the cook just told me it’s completely frozen» REALLY? REALLY??? I’m not in the restaurant business but I don’t think that’s something to say to your guest. Watch out if u order the Large Mimosa bcuz it looked more like a Medium than a large. Overall Review: 2.5 for food & service

Had to wait 12 minutes after sitting down, before even approached for drink order. Ordered coffee, ice tea, and water and ordered 2 fish & chips at the same time. Another 15 and the food arrived. 5 more minutes before napkins & utensils arrived. 7 tables around us on the patio and ALL dirty with used dishes that never got bussed while we were here. Fish & chips were the best I’ve had here in our valley in decades. Fries & coleslaw exceptional as well. Don’t expect refills on your drinks on the patio. Need more servers to help take care of patrons. This was at a VERY non-busy time.

My wife and I thought we would try a new restaurant for us. What a pleasant surprise. Frank, our waiter was helpful and attentive. I had the salmon and my wife had the pork chop. Both the meals were outstanding and the prices very fair. On the way home we were planning our next visit. We would recommend this restaurant to anyone. My only complaint, we hadn’t gone there earlier.

I love this place, the omelet and crab cake is my favorite here, they also served good burritos for every body, nice outside setting specially at morning meals, feels so refreshing and relaxing. The whole Idea of getting here is a great one, and surely you’ll never be disappointed, unless you don’t like burgers and burritos. I also tried couple of time getting here during lunch and dinner time [a bit crowded] but the most favorable is the morning meals, quiet and spacious, with no delayed services. The inside needs more decors to look more attractive. Overall, if you need a place that you can spent a lot cheaper for a good food, this place fits your need.

Nightmare on Mother’s Day. With a reservation for 6 we were sat outside and waited for 15 – 20 min for a waitress. We had bread brought to us an hour later. Sadly our food never came — at least after 2 hours of waiting(they brought out 2 plates of the 6 we ordered in 90 minutes) after protesting they brought out 1 additional plate that was half filled with an incorrect order– the omelette was made wrong /and no hash browns — this is all true — meanwhile 3 other tables of two came and left having been served before us. We finally just left after complaining to the manager. He offered a return free meal but honestly I would never return there myself. The omelette they brought that was made incorrectly was disgusting — this was probably the worst experience I’ve ever had at a restaurant.

Came back 3÷9÷2016 My dinner companion wanted to come back and try out this place especially since I had a coupon for buy one entrée, get one free. Bar area busiest. Many booths to choose from during dinner. Looks like they remodeled a little. Looks nice. Outside seats also, but kind of chilly this evening. She ordered a pasta dish which tasted very good. I ordered the chicken with string beans which also tasted very good. Big improvement in the food since our last visit which I was so thankful for. Restroom could be cleaner though. Definitely glad I gave this place a second chance. Will be back!

I love this place for breakfast. I have also had lunch and dinner, which is good, but the breakfast is a must try. I love the outside seating, the breakfast burrito, the omelettes, and the crab cakes. The inside seating area needs better décor and a whole face lift in my opinion.

I don’t normally do reviews but the last 3 times I have called in an order on the phone they tell me 10 minutes and it usually ends up taking between 25 – 30 mins. I decided to give them one more chance because I actually enjoy their food and they offered me a drink while I waited and ended up charging me for it. When I told the cashier I disagreed with being charged for a drink because I was waiting for an order I called in almost 30 mins ago he said there was nothing he could do and I could speak with his manager. I was running late because they took so long in the first place so I just paid and left but I was shocked at the customer service. I won’t be going back.

Mediocre experience. The beautiful greens are misleading to the remodel needed inside. Kinda outdated, «mature» crowd for their happy hour. Food was good — fresh. Waitress was very friendly. But overall, would rather go to other restaurants in Montrose for a newer, younger feel.

Ocean View… Ocean View… I have mediocre feelings about this place. The décor is beautiful, the service was good and the food is decent… I don’t know. There’s nothing wrong or exceptional about this place. I’ve been craving fish and chips for the last year and was thrilled to see it on the menu. When it came out, I asked what kind of fish was used and the runner said, «gold fish.» Ha. Ha… For real, what kind of fish? When I order fish and chips, I expect the skin to be crispy and prefer that it look more like a chicken finger than a fat patty. The plate, as you can see, plopped 3 large fish patties atop a bed of «chips» that were cold and full of blemishes. I strongly believe that fish and chips pairs better with steak fries, not thin fries, but it’s fine. If you’re going to serve thin fries, at least make them 2 inches long and cut off the skin. It’s ok if there’s skin on the ends, but not in the middle… That’s just lazy. I felt like I was sifting through a pile of tid-bits and when I finally found a good fry, there were spots all over it. Ocean View… Ocean View… These are very simple changes you can make now that will go a long way.

Great restaurant under new ownership that has a nice little patio, great food, full bar and two for one deals if you get the coupons in the local mail. I believe the restaurant is owned by the same people that now own Dish in La Canada. Their Cobb salad is delicious, so I am stuck on ordering that. My friend had the vegetable pasta and it looked great. It is just a bunch of vegetables cut up and steamed so there’s no noodles involved. I am sure you can see the ocean out in front of the restaurant on a clear day.

This place was such a disappointment. I went with several people & none of us left satisfied. I decided I wanted to visit Ocean View Café based on the photo’s I saw on Unilocal,to my disbelief I was told they no longer carry most of those dishes. Calamari — was ok(they put ketchup on the side) Shrimp & Roasted Garlic Pizza– horrible. Grilled chicken sandwich– was blah(bread was burnt, fries were soggy) Zucchini Pasta– was not pasta(literally grilled zucchini) OV Burger– Alright(once again soggy fries & burger wasn’t anything special) Now don’t get me started on the plates. I couldn’t believe our waiter put those plates in front of us, they were gray & to top it off the plates were dirty. Service wasn’t bad.

Cool place. We went there today with our little doggie named Capri after were flushed from Agave at the golf course in Sunland. We brought our dog her a couple of weeks ago and it was no problem, yesterday they turned us away. So we went to Montrose and decided to try Ocean View. Incredibly dog friendly this place rocks. They brought our baby water with ice and a big plate of steamed chicken. Our doggie ate all the chicken. I had their meatloaf and Madelyn had the salmon, both great. The people in this restaurant are awesome, very nice and want you to have a great experience. The 4 stars is just cuz it’s our first visit. We will be back and make a new review. Mig, happy with a great new place for us!

Montrose needs more restaurant options and this just jumped into the running. It seems that they’ve redone their menu and added new chefs. Worth stopping by! A big thumbs up as we sat outside with our dog. A nice vase of flowers was on the table and a great happy hour menu that included sliders and fried pickles. We enjoyed a crisp glass of Chardonnay and some gin and tonic’s. $ 5, how can you beat that?!! Excited to try the other menu options like the veggie pasta! But my husband is a meat eater, so lots of choices. The staff was very attentive! Thanks George! Eat on!

Delicious! Come here for brunch or breakfast to have a high-quality, plentiful meal. Came here with my momma around noon because we were both craving breakfast-y foods, and we ended up ordering the Farmers Omelette, a side of sautéed vegetables, and a side of bacon and ham to share. The dishes also came with a huge plate full of fresh toast, butter, and jam. The food was delicious. Tasty high quality produce, long strips of real bacon, a medley of sautéed veggies(we didn’t want fruit or potatoes), and the coffee was strong without being acidic. The waitress was also very friendly and prompt, allowing us to enjoy our Saturday morning brunch. Parking is extremely easy and free, there’s a large lot next to the location. And the outside décor is beautiful; the patio feels like what I’d want a balcony to look like, with succulents and flowers hanging from the gate and little colorful mason jars with herbs on each table. It can be very romantic in the evenings.

I really like Oceanview Bar & Grill. It is perfect as a breakfast/brunch spot, but being so versatile it can also serve as a great dinner spot, too! The location can’t be beaten, perched up at the top of Ocean View in Montrose, it sits atop the other businesses right on the edge of the main downtown(if you want to call it that) area. The breakfast food here is wonderful. They load you up with french toast when you order that meal, and being a french toast aficionado, I have to give it a solid two thumbs up. I’m honestly surprised the average rating isn’t higher for this establishment. I haven’t had any bad experiences here, and the food has been excellent every time. The wait staff, too, seem competent and pleasant. The outdoor patio is THE place to be, in my honest opinion. If the weather agrees, definitely take a table outside — especially in the morning. Its cozy, somewhat secluded, and nice and quiet. For dinner, the coconut shrimp is fantastic, served with a tantalizing spicy apricot marmalade. Parking is simple, with a lot right next door and a considerable amount of street parking available if you can nab it. Plus, with the whole of Montrose just a hop, skip, and a jump away, you’ve got the perfect recipe for a great date night. The region is very walkable, with a bevy of restaurants, shops, and specialty stores to explore. Though the attire for this place is listed as casual, my family uses it as an early dinner option before the Easter Vigil, so you can definitely dress up a little and not feel out of place. If you’re looking for a Sunday brunch spot, a midweek dinner, or even a quick lunch, Oceanview Bar & Grill is my recommendation.

What’s in a tomato? Plenty, sometimes. If I was making Eggs Benedict(Florentine or California) for a guest, I would use heirloom tomatoes for their wide range of beautiful colors and rich flavors, all of which are a far cry from their pedestrian grocery store cousins. Heirlooms are expensive, but quality and taste are welcome payoffs. From the grocery store variety we can expect little more than pale but uniform color, and a toughness that comes from… density I guess. Yikes. As I devoured my EBs on Father’s Day, I was prompted to peer through the(bland) hollandaise to see what was so adamantly resisting my teeth. It was a tough, pale, semi-crunchy flavorless tomato on otherwise lovely EB… like finding a goth at a Barbie Doll party. Plus the dish was almost cold, not quite warm. The manager/owner fellow seemed attentive and genuinely concerned that everything was OK. That’s sweet, but I think you should spend that time in the kitchen rather than going table to table to ask what you could probably find out on your own by one glance at the ingredients in your kitchen, or how long an egg dish sat on the counter waiting for service.

*Puchased Groupon deal — $ 16 for 2 entrees up to $ 32 value* ==LOCATION== Situated on the corner of Florencita & Ocean View Blvd in Montrose, Oceanview Restaurant offers both indoor and outdoor seating. I saw many people with their dogs for the outdoor seating, definitely bringing my dog here next time :) Parking is easy, there’s a pretty big free 3 hour parking lot just to the left of the restaurant on Florencita Ave. PS. There’s no actual view of the ocean lol. ==FOOD== To be honest I came with semi-low expectations due to the terrible Unilocal reviews. But I was surprisingly pleased with the quality! Food Ordered: 1) California Eggs Benedict($ 13): Poached eggs served over English muffins, avocado, oven roasted tomatoes w/hollandaise sauce. Choice of OV hash or fresh fruit. I chose the fresh fruit and regretted not getting the OV hash… because my bf got that and it was delish! They cut their hash into cubes which I prefer over the flat kind. Thin outer layer and tastes great. The eggs benedict itself had a really fresh-tasting quality to it, not overly heavy and drenched in sauce. Avocado was a yummy addition. Overall, I thought quality & freshness trumped most other eggs benedicts I’ve had. Portion was a little on the small size. 2) Steak with eggs($ 15): Two eggs any style served with steak, oven roasted tomatoe, served with toast and choice of OV hash or fresh fruit. I had a taste of the steak and it was nicely well-seasoned, and quality was again better than I expected. Portion of the steak was definitely very small, but with the good quality it’s understandable. The OV hash as I mentioned earlier tasted really yummy, loved the texture and flavor. 3) Breakfast Mimosa($ 3): This wasn’t as good and it was a tiny champagne glass size. You can taste the cheap champagne, but you get what you pay for. ==SERVICE== Our waitress was nice, but wow it took the kitchen practically 30 minutes to get us our food! The restaurant was pretty empty too on a Sunday noon… I would say only 1⁄5 of the restaurant was full. The Kitchen needs to get its act together — imagine if the restaurant was packed! You’d probably have to wait an hour for your food… ==OVERALL== I would come back but the prices aren’t that friendly so it wouldn’t be as often as I’d like. With the groupon deal I spent a total of $ 26 tip included, but without the groupon the meal would’ve costed me $ 37 pre-tip…
