I’m so surprised at all of the good reviews here. We parked in Akira’s lot behind the restaurant and walked past the staff outside smoking on our way into the restaurant. Very unappetizing start. Our server was completely unfamiliar with the menu and could answer no questions. I ordered the sushi special. She forgot to bring my soup and my salad. My husband ordered a couple rolls and two pieces of sushi. She forgot to bring his sushi. All of the food including the appetizer(tuna dumpling, I think) was mediocre and bland. Their prices are high for the quality of food they provide. They charge extra if you would like to make any type of substitution. For instance, my husband does not like crunch in his rolls and asked if they would leave it out of his $ 14.00 roll. When we received the bill, we were charged $.50 to omit the crunch. I don’t care for California rolls but it came with my meal. I asked if they would be able to replace it with a salmon roll(priced the exact same on the menu). They charged an extra $ 1.00 for that. Having to pay an extra $ 1.50 is not going to break the bank and of course, they are under no obligation to provide substitutions. However, I choose not to go to restaurants that nickel and dime their customers like that. The total disregard for customer satisfaction is very«penny-wise but pound-foolish» of them because we won’t be back and we are writing a negative review(first negative review I’ve ever written, by the way). There are so many other sushi restaurants in the area with better quality food and better service that don’t behave in such a petty way to their customers..

Great food, great service! Last Sunday my waiter suggested that I should try their oysters and I am so glad that I did! The oysters were so fresh and had lots of flavor. I can’t wait to be back again!

i didnt like it here much. The food was just ok. i had the seafood soup and it sucked. looked like they scooped a handful of frozen seafood mix and threw it in. The seafood in it was very rubbery and small. The sushi rolls were ok, but ive had better. i probably wont come back.

I am picky… relatively reasonable. …unreal fresh sushi. …I was here with my son and his fiancé. .we ordered all kinds of appetizers and rolls… One was better than the next. … I would not even say this place was average. .it was fabulous. … I definitely give the place 5 stars… for service. .food and not really overly expensive..

Absolutely fantastic cuisine! If you never had sushi please order the Pink Lady with the yummy sauce. It is their number one seller and the taste tells it all! Truly a culinary orgasmic experience! PS — They have a new chef for the Chinese menu. Just had General Tso’s chicken with vegetable fried rice– unbelievable!

I would have given them 3 – 4 star, but I had never went here & my friend did. We ordered normal staples, Spicy tuna & salmon, BUT he ordered White tuna, & i got UNi, Now shouldn’t have, since It was my 1st time, & I noticed one of them was off in taste. Didn’t taste like briny sea –usually taste. I went home, & before morning, & had bouts of craps-woke me up. The uni was bad, had food poisoning. this progressively got worse when I went to work, if I didnt take Asian Herbal pills-would have had to go to hospital. should have known NOT to get Uni in an unfamiliar place,& I wont be returning . As long as I have been eating sushi.& my regular spot was Always fresh!1 Return factor: No.

I am honestly in love with this restaurant. It has been my go to Japanese/hibachi place for the past few years. I usually choose simple and go for their chicken teriyaki, which typically comes with a side of rice, as well as a soup(clear or miso, depends on the day I believe) and a salad with a sweet dressing. Everything is always delicious, and I never leave unsatisfied. It can be a bit on the pricier side at times, but well worth the quality of food that you’re getting. The restaurant has a classy interior with soft lighting, and is great for a date or a group of people. Their hibachi tables are wonderful, and the chefs are engaging. And, though I usually only go for safe sushi choices(after some disappointing experiences), their sashimi is delicious-soft, flavorful, and not overly fishy, and the texture is smooth. I will continue to frequent it in the future. I highly recommend it.

My son and I stop by here when we walk on Mainstreet. We share an Akira roll with extra wasabi and 2 glasses of water with lemon. We go mid afternoon and are always the only people there. Quick courteous service and the roll is really special, but at $ 16 it’s a treat for once in a while. The shrimp tempora in the roll is enormous and tender, but the last time we went about a month ago the shrimp was an average jumbo, disappointing. We haven’t been back since. That doesn’t mean I won’t ever go back, it’s just that at that price point, I’m weary to take my chances and complaining to people who handle my food is not my style. When school starts again we’ll give it another go because of all the fine memories and talks my son and I have had when we share that Akira roll.

This place is great. I had an amazing house salad with ginger dressing, a miso soup. Tuna yuzu(delicious, it had fresh sliced avocado that was perfectly presented with fresh cubed Tuna in a light lime juice with aloe Vera cubes on the side) I also had the vegetable gyoza, pan seared. Really really good lunch. Great service. Small restaurant right on Main Street. I’ll be back next time I’m in town for another great lunch. I got so caught up talking to the girls i was eating with that I walked out and forgot to leave a tip, how embarrassing!!! The girl came outside and asked if everything was ok with my meal! I was Soooo embarrassed. I sincerely apologized to the sweet waitress, I’ve never done that in my life and felt terrible. Thank you Akira for being so fresh and yummy. See you next time I’m in NJ.

Delicious, especially for take-out sushi! We ordered a ton(and I mean a TON) of sushi from Akira II recently and I loved the food. We initially ordered separate rolls, but ended up all sharing. The items of note that we ordered(as far as I remember) were: –Sushi Pizza(Scallion pancake w. lobster salad, avocado top w. tuna & salmon w. spicy mayo). This was my first time eating sushi pizza — it was an interesting flavor and overall I liked it, but I have to say that sushi is strange with bread! –Rainbow Roll(Crab stick, cucumber inside topped w. tuna, salmon, yellowtail, fluke & avocado) –Treasure Island Roll(California roll topped w. spicy lobster, mango & mango sauce) –King Kong Roll(Spicy tuna, shrimp tempura, eel, cucumber, fresh avocado inside topped with whole soft shell crab) –King of Roll(Lobster tail tempura, Chilean sea bass, fresh avocado, cucumber, tobiko, wrapped with soy paper, served with miso sauce and eel sauce) –Rock Roll(Shrimp tempura, cucumber, inside topped with pepper tuna & spicy king crab) –Super California Roll(Spicy lump crab with avocado and cucumber inside, topped with spicy crunchy salmon. Serve with yummy sauce) So much sushi! The platter was quite large. My fiancé and I ended up finishing the last little bit. Whoo whee, I haven’t felt so full off of sushi since my AYCE sushi days a few years ago! I would definitely recommend this place — delicious!

Great food and good service. I do not like that they charge for refills on ice tea and soda. This is why I go to Yokohama over this place.

Looked up reviews for sushi places in the area. My family and I frequent Oh Yoko, but it gets expensive very quickly. Decided to try a new restaurant for my son’s birthday and ordered take out from Akira 2. I am very disappointed considering I read a review before ordering that contained a comparison of Akira 2 to Oh Yoko’s quality, but more for your money. This couldn’t be farther from the truth! Medium quality meat, spicy couldn’t be less bland if you tried, contents of spider roll… what? The seaweed salad was not all that great either. To make matters worse, they packed the worst tasting soy sauce I have EVER consumed in my life, to the point that I didn’t want to eat the sushi it was so disgusting. My suggestion — save your money up for a trip to Oh Yoko. You might pay more, but you’re paying for quality NOT quantity in the sushi business! The only reason I can even give two stars… I’ve had worse. Will not be buying sushi from here ever again.

Upsides: very friendly service, absolutely delicious and FRESH sushi & sashimi, plenty of options for vegetarians, and the hibachi offerings are are tasty & prepared with flair. Several areas for dining in — so you can choose your experience(sushi bar, hibachi, family/group area, quiet couples tables). Cool koi fountain to enchant the kids in your group. :) Downsides: dining-in service is often slow; sometimes VERY slow(on our most recent visit we waited a full hour once seated around the grill for the show to start!). Note: The hibachi area is quite small & echo-y so it can get extremely loud if you have sensitive folks in your party(like small children). Overall: quality food, many vegetarian options; I prefer to take out.

Stopped in on a Saturday evening a bit after 9pm. Only two other tables were occupied in the sushi/non-hibachi area. Fairly nice furniture and conservative on décor. The place was, as many sushi joints seem to me, quite dark. There were LEDs that changed color throughout the course of our stay. I was an über anti-fan of that. Our service was good. We weren’t a needy group. No cork fee for the bottle of wine we brought, and they did not card anyone – not even one of us who turned 21 not two months ago. Nice, noted, internal question: do underagers try to party here? I didn’t notice shumai on the menu. There were gyoza, I prefer shumai, and did you know both originated in China? Anyway, the menu has two different sections of special rolls separated by at least two pages, and it is unclear what distinguishes them. Perhaps some are permanent menu items and other are not. My friend and I shared the Mount Laurel roll(King crab, eel avocado roll topped w. tuna & wasabi tobiko @$ 13) and a shrimp tempura roll(@$ 8). The former was nice, fresh, and pleasant; the latter was large in circumference, came in 5 pieces(not 6), was so-so, and somewhat difficult to eat. We all indulged in some dessert, and the chocolate pyramid was both a lovely combination of textures and graceful dance of bitter & sweet upon the tongue. Yes really, after a couple glasses of riesling, this was how I felt. So, I am not amazed but a bit impressed with Akira 2. I’d go back, I suppose.

I come here a lot when I have to check in at my office. Moorestown in general is really nice, but Akira 2 is my destination for lunch! The lunch bento boxes are my favorite. They have a variety to choose from: chicken, shrimp, salmon, steak, and all are cooked to perfection! I even like the way they slice up the orange in the bento box, the attention to detail is fantastic! I always leave Akira 2 satisfied; I never feel bloated or full, I just feeling like I had the perfect meal, and the perfect size. The bento boxes come with a cali roll, but I haven’t tried the sushi/sashimi yet — I need to, and I expect it will be as good as everything else I’ve tried there. If you’re in Moorestown — this is the spot. Good food, nice atmosphere, and very friendly and service minded staff.

I can’t say that I love Akira, but this is the one place that I can always turn to knowing that I won’t be unpleasantly surprised. I always feel like it’s a little bit more«high-class» than the neighboring sushi restaurants like Yokohama and Mikado. But this is reflected in the slight price difference which makes it a little expensive for dinner. Lunch here is a steal though, and the hibachi is very entertaining. Overall, reliable sushi and service, and the décor is not too shabby either. Good place for birthday dinners and casual affairs.
