My wife, two kids, and my mother visited Tampicos following mass on Saturday, November 28th). Typically, I’ll order the Burrito Cargado. This time however, I opted for the Enchiladas Enmoladas. Many times that I visit Mexican restaurants, Mole Enchiladas are not on the menu. So on the rare occasions that I do see them offered, I usually jump on the opportunity. I do not know if this is a new menu item here at Tampico’s, but it’s the first time that I see them offered. Now, part of that could be because I usually order the same thing every time we get food from here. But this time, I wanted to try the Enchiladas Enmoladas. And they did not disappoint! They were served piping hot(temperature). The enchilada came topped with sliced avocado and red onion slices. The onion slices were strong to the taste, however, was a nice balance with the avocado. The Mole was delicious! I’ve tasted Mole enchiladas before and in my opinion, the taste was somewhat«off». But these were very good and had a wonderful taste! I would(and plan to) order them again the next time I’m in town.

Tampico’s(two locations in the Morgan City area) has always been the go to Mexican restaurant in this area. I grew up on Tampico’s. There have been good and bad experiences through the years. I would say more good than bad. Went there last Friday with a large group(20 people). The chips and salsa were very good. I had the loaded burrito and it was excellent. My wife had the fajita quesadilla which she did not care for. Margaritas were a little weak on this visit. Waitress did a very good job with such a large group.

The frozen margerita wasn’t worth a darn and the food was burnt and dry. I’m picky with most Mexican restaurants because they’re a dime a dozen. This one however is sadly the one people go to the most because the other places are even worse. I actually had to have them take my burnt food back and they discounted my meal. But barely. I don’t ever nitpick at restaurants but this place is by far one of the worst ones I’ve ever been to. Just go to new Iberia or houma for mexican food.

The drinks are good but over priced. The food is better than the other one located in Morgan city, but the food has really went downhill :(They need to update the décor it’s been the same since they opened. I usually call in for take out because of the lack of atmosphere.

Their margaritas were very good. Now for the gripe, the sign outside stated they were open till 11. My fiancée & I showed up at 915PM. I am surprised they sat us. They were hustling us out the door almost immediately. They created so much dust from cleaning up in front of us, my Fiancée started sneezing! Very disappointed! They then informed us, they were closing at TEN, not the advertised 11 at the entrance. We won’t be back.

For awhile this was the only Mexican Resturant in town, but in the last few years they’ve had a little competition. I’ve tried them all, have been all over the world and I still haven’t found anything that compares to Tampicos! The burritos, enchiladas, nachos and of course margaritas can’t be beat! The only reason I’m giving it a 4 instead of a 5 is because they have become too pricey. We can’t afford to eat there as much as we used to.
