I’ve never had a bad experience here. The food is great, and staff is always very friendly. Ingredients are fresh and food is filling without feeling heavy. I usually get a veggie naked burrito after going to the gym. Always satisfies!

After a night of camping and a stop at Fonta Flora, Mountain Burrito was exactly what I needed. Lots of delicious foods all wrapped up in a delicious burrito. The guys working were super friendly(and stoked) that we stopped by and ordered food. I had a chicken burrito with roasted potatoes, lettuce, rice, salsa — I’m not too adventurous in the burrito topping department. Mike — who was the workers new favorite person — got half chorizo(that day’s special) and pork. I wasn’t super impressed with the chips — but honestly, once I got through the burrito, I didn’t have any room. Great stop for some delicious foods in Morganton.

Excellent food. Has Chipotle beat by a mile. The pineapple jabenero salsa is greatness in chunk form.

Great place to stop for a VERY filling lunch right off of 40. It’s tucked away in a strip mall and there’s lot’s of outside seating. The staff was very friendly and the food was good. You get lots of choices in fillings and hot sauces and it comes with a side of crispy tortilla chips. It wasn’t the best burrito I have had but I think I probably just wasn’t getting the best sauce for me or trying the right combination of fillings. I definitely will be back on my next road trip out west to try again.

Wow. This fresh Cali-burrito style restaurant is an amazing local find. Only a couple of minutes off 40, and well worth the couple of minutes to pass the chain restaurants. Choose from a burrito, tacos, or salad. Add chicken, pork, or beef if wanted. Fill with awesome ingredients, just to name a few: rice, beans, grilled onions/peppers, potatoes, fresh veggies, cilantro, fresh jalapeño, jalapeño slaw, gauc, sour cream, and so forth and so on! There are about 12 homemade salsa’s to choose from ranging from sweet and mild to ghost pepper hot! Chips come with your order, and they will give you cups of salsa off their salsas list, just ask! Good job Mountain Burrito!

Without a doubt the best burrito I’ve ever eaten. And I eat a lot of burritos. We were at Fonta Flora tasting beers and needed dinner before we headed back to Charlotte, but it was late on a Sunday so I pulled up my trusty Unilocal app to see what was closeby. A bunch of my friends on Unilocal had amazing things to say about Mountain Burrito so we went for it. Regular burritos in Charlotte now just don’t cut it. There are a ton of options for toppings and if you like spicy this is totally your place — they have ghost pepper chili sauces. They have pre-designed burritos as well so if you want to venture from your generic chicken, salsa, sour cream, pico, gauc burrito but have no clue what combinations work best they have you covered.

Best burrito place in town. Prepared fresh daily, you can choose between a burrito, salad, bowl, or tacos. I really like their homemade nacho chips, they are really fresh, crunchy, and delicious. I’ve been coming here for years and I cannot complain about the food, service, or dining experience. The place can tend to be pretty packed during lunchtime so don’t plan to bring a bunch of people with you at once and expect to get seats. Good luck finding a place that serves better burritos.

Mountain Burrito is where it’s at. I live about an hour and a half from Morganton and I would honestly consider making the drive just for another Burrito. Shout out to Sam J for recommending this place. I’m going to blame it on the fresh jalapeños, but like so many others I cried into my burrito. This place is that good. The only difference between me and the others is that they had some self respect and wrapped up the remainder of their huge burrito, whereas I shamelessly devoured it in one sitting. This place is not huge and like others have said, it is very hard to find. Make sure that you do find it though. Also, it is a short drive once you exit I-40, so it is a great option if you are just traveling through Morganton. It has a typical tex-mex setup where you go down the line picking the ingredients that will be wrapped up in your tortilla. They also steam your tortilla at the beginning(similar to Qdoba). This is always a nice touch. I ordered the recommended burrito: Pulled Pork, Pineapple Habanero Salsa, Jalapeño Slaw, Rice, Black Beans, Chipotle Cream Sauce, and fresh jalapeños. This is the way to go! That burrito was seriously delicious and humongous. It had a nice spice to it and they aren’t afraid to bring the heat here. The homemade tortilla chips are delicious as well. The service was excellent and the employees will happily make recommendations. I would highly recommend Mountain Burrito to anyone traveling through or stopping in Morganton. I want to head back and try everything on the menu.

Best burrito ever. I had a pulled pork burrito with habanero/pineapple salsa and jalapeño cole slaw, and it was just wonderful. Not too hot, but just enough heat to make things interesting. Highly recommended.

Very friendly, will talk with you while preparing your food, and I’m not a big talker when I don’t know someone, but the guy behind the counter had me laughing. So that’s a big plus! Food was fresh, great taste, highly recommended!

Stopped here for lunch before heading up to Pisgah National Forest to hike. There was a line at lunchtime on Saturday but it moved quickly. The crew was friendly and worked fast. The burritos were large and very tasty with fresh pico. Plenty of good food to hold us for an afternoon of hiking. Sitting outside was also nice. We both had the chicken burritos and will definitely stop there next time we’re in town.

Most of the ingredients are very delicious, and obviously fresh. Their only rice option is steamed white rice which seems very out of place in a burrito restaurant and is a major letdown. They also really need the salsa bar to be out where the customers can self-serve. For those two reasons I give it three stars. I always get their nachos– without rice– which are very tasty though.

Many thanks to Sam J and all the other Unilocalers who cried when they ate the burritos here. You are an inspiration to the others of us who cry when we eat as well! Yes! This place is the real deal! Located in one of five strip mall buildings in a cluster, even with GPS, it can be a little tough to find this spot. Don’t let that stop you! You must persevere! Let’s just say I listened — Pulled pork, Pineapple Habanero Salsa, Jalapeño Slaw, Rice, Black Beans, Corn, Red Onions, Queso Fresco, and Chipolte Cream Sauce — and then Tonya P said — «You better put some damn fresh jalapenos on that mutha or I’m gonna beat you with a rosewood spoon!» That burrito fed two of us easily. Geez and damn, that was truly delicious! The Jalapeño slices were so large I thought I was eating a green pepper at first… and then I swallowed… and then I couldn’t feel my lips or gums for twenty minutes. The homemade hot sauces are really tasty and even the tortilla chips are fantastic. Nice selection of bottled beers and a «Specials» board that usually has a great lunch deal. Let’s leave it at this — I would walk a mile in flip flops(two sizes too small), carrying a knapsack full of rocks, in the blazing Carolina sun to eat one of these burritos. And an ice cold beer wouldn’t hurt either…

This place has great options(although I wouldn’t call it Mexican) and the burritos are very big. The beer is pretty inexpensive too. It can get a little crowded, but I guess that just means they are doing something right! My one complaint is that they should have a recycling bin.

Food is very good. You go through a line and tell the employee the ingredients you want on your burrito. The line moves quickly. The seating is a little limited.

I read«Brian from Apex’s» review which made me grab my car keys. He wrote that Mountain Burrito made a burrito that was, «so good, that it almost made him cry.» That’s a pretty good recommendation, and one that I seldom ignore. When I walked into Mountain Burrito, I quoted Brian, asking for the same type burrito that made another reviewer almost cry from joy. Without missing a beat, the first young gentleman working in the assembly line said, «you must be referring to the pork /pineapple burrito.» That was so funny, because indeed I was! Both of the guys on the line said, «that’s our favorite. Let us make some suggestions on items that compliment that burrito {translation: let us hook you up} — and so I did. PULLEDPORK /PINEAPPLE BURRITO? * Pulled Pork. * Pineapple Habanero Salsa. *Jalapeño Slaw. * Corn. * Rice. * Black beans. * Red onions. * Queso Fresco. * Chipotle Cream sauce. To quote Brian again, «Dear God, I almost wept… it was so damn good.» CHIPS /SALSA? The CHIPS that were served were house made, but kind of blah, not very warm and not salted. They also don’t give you SALSA automatically, one has to ask, and you should… because the owner is somewhat of a hot sauce /salsa aficionado. I heard him say one time that the medium hot(MOJO) sauce was his favorite. It is chunky, smoky, spicy, and good. It burned my lips and opened up my sinuses quite well. There are six versions of hot sauce ranging ranging from fairly mild to «I’ve killed my tongue!» (1) JALAPEÑO x 4 (2) La GUSTA x 4, tomatillo based (3) MOJO x 5, hot and smoky, Thai chili based — loads of Thai Chili.(Mojo is hot!) Past here lies insanity and masochism. They bring the heat here, so be as aggressive as you dare. (4) SUNSHINE x 6, habanero: WAY too hot for me!(Less flavor than the Mojo, but more heat.) (5) KEITHSWEAT x 8, exotic habanero, nuclear hot. (6) HELLAYELLA x 10, mustard ghost pepper, suitable for taxidermy and unclogging blocked drains.(No, actually I’ve sampled this and it wasn’t that bad. A little goes a long way! The French’s mustard taste predominates.) DRINKS? All manner of bottled craft beers are available, Mexican bottled soda, and iced tea(both sweet and non.) DECOR? Funky. Venice Beach meets the NC mountains. A picture of the perpetually mellow Bob Marley. The music here is always enjoyable but not intrusive. Mountain Burrito has a super cool«vibe.» MUSIC? This restaurant plays the BEST old school. 60’s to mid 70’s era rock music of any restaurant that I have visited. CCR. Beatles. The Boss. Bob Marley. Etc. It’s a music lover’s treat to eat here. TOTALDAMAGES? A tad under $ 12. The burrito was large and extremely delicious. CONCLUSION? This was also the best burrito that I’ve ever eaten, and the best thing that I’ve ever eaten from a «Mexican /American» restaurant menu. It was blissfully delicious. Great food. Great beer. Funky décor. GREAT music. Laid back atmosphere. Outdoor seating. Just the best burrito I’ve ever eaten. –1 star for the price.

Found this gem through Unilocal on our way to mountain cabin for the weekend. We love burritos and loved this spot– very fresh ingredients, homemade tortilla chips(a simple thing yet not many take this extra step!), fresh flavorful salsas, and giant burritos. Awesome stop. We will remember this one next time through this area!
