I love this restaurant! I had a potato gazpacho that was a special as well as the NC trout. Everything was prepared well and was the epitome of locally sourced food done well. I would come back every time!

Lunch was fantastic. The chicken tacos are the best we’ve ever tried. The sides are varied and provide healthier options. For the kids, the chicken tenders and fries are outstanding. Great beer selection. Highly recommend this place.

Dined there last night. I had the salmon and it was outstanding. I also tried their brown butter cake with pralines. Oh my! I’m definitely coming back! And time with my husband! Want to try the lunch menu next time.

The food here is phenomenal. I got the most perfectly cooked beef tenderloin and the grilled romaine salad is surprisingly tasty. Rolls are free if you ask for them and you can tell they’re freshly baked. My only complaints would be that the seating feels crowded and the service was meh. I heard they were expanding which will be good. Definitely good for a fancy lunch or dinner, especially in a small town.

We stopped in Morganton on our way to High Point from Maggie Valley and what a beautiful town! Perfect place to rest up a bit. We had dinner at Vine & Root and it was perfect! The décor was beautiful! We mostly wanted a light meal and a drink or two, so this place was perfect. I had the kale salad and it was delicious! We had questions about the town history and the hostess came over to our table and talked to us. She was a local and very friendly and knowledgeable. We enjoyed ourself so much we were tempted to stay on a night in this town, but we had to be on our way. Highly recommend this town and thus restaurant!

I know this place cares about the esthetic and quality of both the food and the experience. Felt more like I was in SOHO or Wicker Park versus the Carolinas. Plus they have Cheerwine in the bottle — it’s a red soda

This is my new favorite restaurant in Morganton… Our waitress was just as fantastic as our food. We started with the fried oysters with pimento cheese grits which is a MUST have. It’s not an overly large appetizer to ruin your dinner either. Just perfect. I ordered the scallops entrée which was prepared Thai style and my husband order the Pork Shank. Both came out in an excellent timely manner and were incredible. I can’t say enough positive things about this place… We sat out on the outdoor patio which had the best atmosphere. There were even couches/chaise lounges to hang out on with your wine afterwards :) Service was some of the best we’ve ever had… Definitely eat here!!!

My friend and I were passing through Morganton and were very happy we decided to try this place out. We shared a kale salad and an order of pupusas, which I’d never heard of before and kind of just ordered because I liked the name but oh my goodness were they delicious. Try the pupusas! Both appetizers were really nicely presented and had wonderfully fresh, complex flavors. The service was good as well; we went when there weren’t too many other people there, so our waitress was attentive and our food was out in a reasonable amount of time. The only negative I noticed was that the inside of the restaurant is a little cold and hard. But it has lots of fun art to look at and the food is so good anyway that not a lot else matters that much.

Unfortunately, the customer service was poor. The hostess made it clear that she was not happy that we did not have a reservation. We were seated outside which was fine with us. After 15 mins of no one offering us water or drinks we left. As we were passing through, we will not return.

I had high hopes for Root and Vine, after having so many positive dining experiences in Morganton. As part of a food tour, we sat at the bar for appetizers/small plates and drinks. The beer list was fairly impressive, although the majority were in bottles or cans; there were maybe six + draught selections. It was busy and our bartender/waitress seemed a bit distracted. Anytime I can drink a can of Back in Black, it puts me in a better mood(because black IPA is awesome). The Black Bean and Roasted Corn Pupusas were just okay — a very dense, dry, filling dish — but pupusas are a «heavy» dish to begin with. The Crab Cake Napoleon, again, was just okay — probably the best parts were the fried green tomatoes and remoulade. Granted, it’s hard to make a good crab cake. So for the third time in this review I will say — this place is okay/average. Maybe the entrees are better. Personally, I’d have to say Wisteria is probably the best restaurant in town. Judge for yourself!

This is the most awesome place we’ve found in the local counties. Great food, great ambience, great outdoor seating if the weather allows.

This place is a gem. Outstanding service and food. I had the grilled romaine salad and mountain trout and it was delicious. Capped it off with an espresso and bacon bourbon brownie.

Mountain Trout is where it’s at. blackened & grilled trout with crispy skin, tender meat, served with the head & tail but it’s also deboned. I’ve ordered it almost every single time I’m in there for dinner, and they mix up the sides and I haven’t had a bad side yet whether it’s the mashed sweet potatoes, or collard greens made with dark turkey meat, or asparagus, or fingerling potatoes. It is a little pricey(~$ 18 I think), but so worth it. In fact, writing about it now makes me crave it… Also, I love their outdoor seating, and creative/funky cocktails! And hosts and wait staff have always been pleasant, knowledgeable about the food, & very attentive.

My first time in Morganton, won’t be the last hopefully! I’m already looking forward to returning here for a meal. Service was excellent and my meal was outstanding. I travel a great deal across the country on business, so I eat at many great restaurants — this is as good as any I’ve enjoyed in major cities like San Francisco, Los Angeles, Atlanta, New York, etc.

This was the perfect end to a morning of mountain biking at Lake James. We enjoys an outdoor table and mussels, shrimp tacos, and the daily lunch special with gazpacho. The service was great. There was a nice wine and beer selection.

This restaurant rivals any you’ll find in the area… The entire Western NC area! Service was great and the food was amazing. The grilled wedge salad was creative and tasty. The duck we ordered taste fresh and was well cooked. The steak was even better. We licked our plates clean, even though it’s not really kosher to do so at an upscale restaurant.

We had a fine meal here and a very interesting cocktail named the Wake Up Call. It had a piece of bacon floating in it and an ice cube that had been smoked in their wood fired grill. Very innovative. My wife had rainbow trout that was excellent and mine was the scallops special. They were quite good but only three for $ 28 seems like a pretty high price so I give this place a 3 rather than a 4 for priciness.
