Clarion Hotel Morgan

This was the most wonderful stay that we have had in a while. We loved the historic hotel. The beautiful lobby and ball room were breathtaking. The room was large and comfy. There was an excellent view of downtown and it was in walking distance from a lot of fun bars, restaurants, stores, and coffee shops. We walked down to the river and even though the weather was chilly we really enjoyed exploring the community. The top floor restaurant and bar downstairs both had excellent selection and quality of food and drinks. The staff was friendly and the breakfast was well stocked and delicious. There was a faint smell of mold in the work out room because I think there was a leak or burst pipe recently and the computer room was missing computers? Other than that I loved everything about our stay.

I stayed at this property recently on 2÷16÷16. The building is historical and has a nice, vintage look inside. My room was large and most important clean, which when you’re doing quick trips while on the road just helps to ease your mind. The front desk clerk let me know that their systems went down unexpectedly a little before I arrived, but was very gracious in apologizing for the inconvenience and made sure that it would not interrupt the check in process and it did not. Overall, everyone I encountered on the staff was friendly and helpful. I’d stay there again if I go back through that area.

I stayed at the Clarion Hotel Morgantown for one night last week and was very pleased with my stay. The building itself is beautiful (built in 1922, apparently), the staff was friendly, and the room was spacious and clean. The only minor issues I had were that the room keys were very finicky, so when I checked in I had go all the way back down to the lobby two times before the employee finally just came up with me with a new set of keys, and the hotel is also located in downtown Morgantown so you have to park a little ways down the street. (Parking is free, though.) All in all, a very good property though, and I highly recommend it!

Overall, the hotel was ok I guess for the price. The free continental breakfast was horrible. The juice machine was broken the entire time, my waffle stuck to the waffle maker, the eggs and bacon were questionable, bagels were hard… I would say the best part of breakfast was the cereal and waffle. This hotel is also hidden downtown, outsiders would miss it if they were driving by. I understand they want to keep the hotel vintage but they should upgrade breakfast options and the furniture in the room. I came here for a business trip so luckily it was all charged to the company card. I would never frequent this hotel in my leisure time.

Worst wifi ever! You can’t stay here as a business traveller if you need to get work done. Otherwise good hotel with friendly, helpful staff and rooms with ample space.

Very unhappy with the staff and management. I stayed there in July for a week long conference being held at the hotel. The front desk clerk directed me to park in a very specific place across the street from the hotel… I complied…
The next day I received a parking ticket. The staff took the ticket from me and told me not to worry about it — they would take care of it as they were in some dispute with the parking authority.
Fast forward to September and I get a notice in the mail that the ticket hasn’t be paid or «resolved» and they added another $ 10 in penalties. I called the hotel, they said a manager would be speaking with the parking authority and they would call me the next day… 5 business days went by… no call… I called again, got the manager’s cell phone… left a message… no return call.
Finally I just paid the damn thing as I don’t want my credit ruined.
So if you stay there BEWARE where you park and no matter what the staff tells you don’t park in any place that have signs telling you there is a time limit.
On top of all of that, the hotel was mediocre. Wifi simply didn’t work and rooms average to below average.

The room was bigger than we expected and was comfortable. The front desk employees seemed too busy to care about the guests. When we arrived, the two employees were eating and didn’t bother to stop when they checked us in. The internet stopped working on the second day. We said something to the guy at the desk. He tried to reset it, but it didn’t work. He basically said, «it’s so sad.» He seemed to realize that the router was a problem, and didn’t seem to care to solve the problem. Same guy did not acknowledge us when we passed though the lobby on several occasions, even though I tried to say hello.

I’ve stayed here a couple times when visiting family. When away from you, one looks for a comfortable place to stay. Hotel Morgan has been quite comfortable! It is situated in the heart of downtown Morgantown, close to dining areas, local events and the university. There is a nice walking path along the river, just a couple blocks away.
The hotel is an older building which brings its own charm. So, if you feel more comfortable in something more modern, there are other local options. The staff have always been polite, friendly and most helpful; from the front desk, the bartender, continental breakfast to support staff, they were always helpful.
Check-​in has gone smoothly. There is a small unloading space to park in front while you check-​in. Their parking lot is about half block away. So, I suggest unloading first and then parking your own car. (I did not find any valet option.) Rooms have been quite nice and roomy. Check-​outs have been fast and convenient.
Beds have been very comfortable. Rooms have a sofa couch, cable tv with HBO, small desk and dressers. I will say the Wi-​Fi in the rooms are weaker signals, but I found the lower floors such as the mezzanine have a stronger signal.
Complimentary continental breakfast is included with your room. They seem to have a bigger selection of options than just cereal & doughnuts. Usually there are hot meal items like scrambled eggs, bacon or sausage and biscuits. (Bacon could be cooked longer.) I love their make your own waffle machine! Much better than those pre-​packaged toaster kind! Plenty of coffee, tea, milk and juice. They offer fresh fruit, a variety of cereals, yogurt, bagels and more. Many places don’t offer as much as what they offer here.
They do have a restaurant in the building, but I have not used it. There are a lot of different local spots around that I have always ventured out for the walk, the older downtown architecture and try out a variety of the local restaurants and pubs.
I definitely enjoy the old-​fashion charm this hotel has to offer and will definitely stay here again on future visits.

It’s all about location, and the Clarion Hotel Morgan is in the heart of downtown Morgantown. I was here for several days for my brother’s college graduation and this hotel fit the bill for our visit. Plus, I adore historical hotels, so I was particularly excited for our stay. We were close to everything and parking, both concierge and self-​park in their private lot, was easy.
The room décor is definitely vintage, but not in a good way. It seems like they last updated the look at least 25 years ago. My dad had a problem with the key card to his room the entire time we were there. We had to repeatedly call for help to let him into his room. They gave us a new card, but it didn’t work that well, either.
I loved the bottom floor of the hotel. The workout facility and business area almost seem like they are rarely used. I spent a lot of time down there by myself. I was able to get some work done remotely, which I truly appreciated.

I have stayed here multiple times and had a pleasant experience each time.
The complimentary continental breakfast is sufficient. If you’re looking for a full breakfast experience, there are plenty of restaurants in town that are better. My choice would be Sunday Brunch at Madeleine’s across the street!
As a minor quibble, I wish the café off the lobby was open longer hours, but I understand they do not get enough traffic to justify staying open, especially in the summer when Morgantown is pretty quiet.

Driving South and all Interstate exit hotels were booked with a Conference. Residence Inn desk gave me name of this hotel. Took abit to get through the city to find it. Very historic looking hotel. Staircase coming down from Mezzanine was something that I picture as being amazing in its hey day. They have tried to preserve some of the history like original elevator buttons– although not in use.
Needless to say, if you like new, this is not for you. If you like historic, old world hotel, than this is a neat stay.
Beds were very comfortable. We had a large room, so no issues with the smaller rooms comment. Halls did have a funky smell to them but the room did not. In the window air conditioner worked great, no noisier than fans in the rooms we find today.
Desk service was very warm and helpful. Car parking was not a big deal. Not tons of restaurants nearby that looked great to me so we settled on Wild Wings for a burger.
All in all, an adventure stay vs the cookie cutter stay.

I would have probably never looked into this hotel, if not for Unilocal.The rates here are wonderful, especially on a football weekend with Marriott Hotel charging $ 350/​night and 2 night minimum. Here, you will pay $ 145 plus tax for a luxurious suite with comfortable queen bed, sofa, television, free wifi, and included breakfast.
The location is in downtown Morgantown with everything in walking distance. Staff at the front desk are super accommodating. They called in for a cab and described the transportation system to me. Parking lot is half a block away. AND one of the greatest things is the vintage décor of the hotel. There is a lounge on the first floor as well.
I would definitely frequent this hotel, if in the area. Beats chain hotels by far!

The Hotel Morgan was built 1925 and considered as one of the premier hotels in the country.
When you first walk in, I noticed the old school chandeliers and original fixtures. So vintage and beautiful.
The staff was friendly, but was really short. They did not mention Continental breakfast or any other information that we may want to know.
Our rooms were not that bad, you can tell that it was renovated (beds, carpet, tv, etc) but kept most of the original parts.
Just the smell of the building, hallway and rooms you can tell it is vintage. I don’t mind it, but some people do.
The room was clean and beds were comfortable. Wifi was free but was extremely slow.
There is also a restaurant located in the building as well.
The only thing I did not like was their breakfast. The waffle maker did not work, the biscuits were cold and the lounge looked dirty.
But overall it was a great experience to stay at the oldest hotel in the area.

Passing through Morgantown on way to east coast. Hotel old but clean and well kept. Staff was friendly and helpful. Bed was most comfortable I have slept in at a hotel in years. Quiet room. Parking is a block away and Internet very very slow. Great hotel. Will definitely go back if in area

The venerable old Hotel Morgan (now managed by Clarion Hotels) in conveniently located in downtown Morgantown, where you’ll find a wide array of eateries, drinkeries, and shops where you can buy all kinds of fabulous little gorgeous things.
The hotel itself is eight stories of old-​fashioned elegance, especially the lobby with its high ceiling and dark woodwork. The rooms are a bit small, so families with kids may wish to look for accommodations elsewhere, but for a business traveler it’s more than adequate. Heating and A/​C is by way of a window-​mounted unit which is NOT quiet, but if you’re like me, the «white noise» helps you sleep. Parking is in a lot about half a block away.
For ME one of the best things about the Hotel Morgan are WINDOWS THAT OPEN, so you can get some nice fresh air into the room if needed. Price-​wise this place is a bargain, and the government rate is only about $ 75/​night. There’s a nice restaurant/​lounge on the top floor and a cool little tavern adjacent to the lobby.
Some people prefer cookie-​cutter hotel chains, but when in Morgantown I prefer the gracious, old-​fashioned charm of the Hotel Morgan.

It was dark out, past 5 PM after a long day of driving, so I stopped in to get a room. They said their were rooms available but, as it was a «game weekend» for the Mountaineers, they stated I would have to stay two nights.
I would like to give a better review of the hotel itself but these folks prefer to have empty rooms than help out a weary traveler.
Luckily this isn’t the only hotel in town.

Best location in Morgantown and reasonable price are the most positive attributes of this hotel.
The Morgan is most likely about a 100 years past its prime. It’s a bit run down but clean and comfortable for a short stay. The rooms are smallish but not cramped; three of us dudes stayed comfortably in one room with two double beds and a pull out.
There are probably about 20 bars and restaurants within five blocks of the Morgan, ranging from dumps to surprisingly good food, though finding a good breakfast was a challenge. Do not even think a out the «breakfast» bar the hotel provides — it makes breakfast at the Hampton Inn look like a sumptuous feast.
One note for motorcyclists and owners of nice cars: the Morgan does not have any secure parking. You have to park in an unattended public lot across the street.
If you are on a budget, stay here for the location. Otherwise stay at the River Front — much much nicer, and not all that far from downtown.

This is a nice hotel in central Morgantown. It’s convenient to good restaurants and bars/​pubs in the city. Great view out of our top floor room.
Still, they have several drawbacks. First, the Wi-​Fi – as cited by Charles S. – is slow and unreliable. I went to the hotel bar for a beer and the bartender told me that I could take the beer to my room but that she «needed the glasses.» Not her fault but plan to serve your customers. These first two problems aren’t the end of the world.
However, on one night they provided no clean bath towels or toilet paper after cleaning our room – it also did not seem the sheets were changed. When I went down to the lobby to ask for toilet paper, they provided it to us but both front desk employees couldn’t tell me who is the manger/​general manager of the hotel.
This is not a bad place but next time I’ll give the Hampton Inn in Morgantown a shot. Oh, yes, the breakfast is free but simply average and terrible coffee. My wife and I decided to go to a coffee shop to get a cup in the morning. After rereading my review, this is not such a great hotel after all.

I remember this as the Hotel Morgan and know that I was renovated since then. My first clue to the shape of this place was at the door before I walked in. It was filthy. Someone was milling around at the desk as we walked in. They should’ve been sweeping out front!
It just seemed more than tired, and management must feel the same way from the look and feel of it.
