In the first six months that Coachs’ was open, the food and service was excellent, hands down the best sea food in Morgantown. I’ve been back several times over the past two years, and the quality of both of those things has suffered. I realize, running a service business in a college town is not the easiest gig, however there is room for improvement. Some of the things which seemed to be made in the kitchen now seem like they are pre-packaged. On my last trip, the clam chowder was more akin to a gravy than a soup. The redeeming point, is the availability of local beer in quart-sized mason jars. So enjoy a Halleck Pale Ale if you get a get a chance, and enjoy the hoppy goodness.

If you’re looking for a secluded and empty place on a Tuesday night, this is your best bet! We pulled up and because of the lack of cars, my party thought the restaurant was closed despite the open sign. It was a bit off-putting to see such a small crowd. Aside from one other family who left as we came in and a couple who came in during our meal, the place was completely empty. The last time I was here a year or so ago, the food quality was much better than this visit. I had the crabcake sandwich with fries and hushpuppies. The crabcake was very lackluster. It was very limp and broke apart very easily making the sandwich difficult to consume. In addition, the hushpuppies must’ve changed from a fresh mix to a pre-made mix because the quality suffered from my last visit. Also, something that irks me a bit: they advertised(poorly, I might add) the items on their menu via ads on the televisions in the restaurant. Simply include a leaflet in the menu rather than running it across the screen every few minutes.

This is such a nice addition to Morgantown! The service was prompt and friendly, food came out fast, and there were a lot of options for seafood and non seafood lovers. I definitely recommend getting a build your own steamer, and strongly suggest you try their signature seasoning broth(the hot mess!). It was super flavorful with a little spicy kick that wasn’t overpowering. And make sure you get shrimp in it, they were fresh, big, and tasty.

Ok now my food here is never great but the service is phenomenal. Our waiter, whose name I do not quite remember, asked how our week had been going. At the time my dad hat a fractured ear drum. So he said that our week was getting better. Our food came and it was okay I got the chicken sandwich and it was a little dry. At the end of the meal our waiter came over and my dad asked for the check. Then he said that our meal was on him because it was the least he could do since we were having a bad week. Lol!!! It was awesome until my dad looked and realized he didn’t have any cash on him to give him a tip. So we were going to get dessert and put a tip on the bill. Bet then he said that if we wanted dessert he would have to pay for it! So we didn’t get dessert but we told the manger that our waiter was great and that we were going to be back to give him a big tip. So we are walking out and saw an ATM. Life saver so in the end we have a tip and it was a great night!

I actually didn’t enjoy my dinner here. I think this place might be fun to go to in the summer time and have drinks on the patio. However this is not the place to go to to have a nice seafood dinner. I got a lobster and crab leg streamer. All of the seafood was way over cooked. I almost choked on the lobster it was so incredibly chewy. The beer I had was tasty –a shock top draft. It was almost empty Wednsday night at 6:00-ish.

Enjoyed great service. The waiter suggested the special(prime rib with king crab legs). The prime rib was good(I order medium) and the au jus had a different taste than what I was accustomed to, but was enjoyable. I hope you like garlic. The two crab legs were a little overlooked but tasty. Next time I’m going to try the fisherman’s platter.

New cheat lake location. I have never been to the Collins Ferry location. The restaurant was jumping. There was a 45 minute wait for a table when we arrived at 830 pm. We ate at the bar instead. There is plenty of outdoor seating. Indoor vibe is lively. Band playing outside. Decent music. Started with fried clam strips. They were very good. Wife had seafood pasta dish. Garlicky and and a bit too greasy. I had a fried fish platter with corn on the cob and dirty rice. All was quite good. We will try some steamed seafood when we return. It’s great to have a new cheat lake restaurant.
