On paper, it’s just a huge rock on the shoreline, and yet it is much more different when you get to see its majesty in person. I can’t exactly pinpoint why this rock is so beautiful to me… Perhaps it is because of its commanding posture in the flat water horizon, but somehow it still blended in with the scenery well while standing out at the same time. As contradicting as that statement, Morro Rock is so simple yet extraordinary to behold. I think it’s definitely a sight worth stopping for on a PCH trip, and it’s best viewed from the marina on Embarcadero!

As the name of this place suggests, it is one big volcanic rock jutting out of the Ocean. The way I said it makes it sound very boring and mundane. But, trust me, it’s not. The sheer size of the rock and the surrounding bay make for a breathtaking landscape. While driving along the CA-1, when you see this mysterious, lonely rock by the Ocean, the desire to go towards it and scale it becomes overwhelming. Unfortunately, you are not allowed to climb the rock, but, there is a road that takes you to the base of the rock(yes, Morro Rock is actually connected to the mainland by a thin stretch of land). There is a parking lot there and a wonderful, protected beach. The waters are much warmer there and hence, great for wading around. When we went there, there weren’t a lot of people around, which made the place all the more peaceful and serene.

This is a beautiful area to walk and Chillax! The harbour has sea otters and other wildlife. Just don’t climb the rock first it’s illegal and 2nd it’s quite dangerous. 3. It will destroy the natural beauty. Depending on the time of year beautiful foliage not to mention just beautiful ocean views. From here you can go into town and check out the shops eat etc. *Note there is no water at the beach at this time due to the severe drought conditions. Bring your own to wash the sand off your feet. ** update I reread that their is no water for showers etc. It is turned off due to drought. yes the Ocean still has water.
The weather was wonderful up until today when the Santa Anas blew in at noon, the temperature was 88 degrees and then at 4 o’clock in the afternoon into last night it was down to 59UGH! So much for Marty and I escaping the warm weather of Long Beach & San Diego to come up to a cooler climate; we did hear that this is very unusual for this time of year so there is hope! Breathtaking-the surfers are amazing… to watch navigating the waves erratically coming from the west surf that is :PPPPPPPPPP! ========================================================= This volcanic Plug(My Unilocal Friend fran d is right, a butt plug, but for the earth!) off the Central Coast is a must see, and covered in bird guano, it looks like a snow capped icon from millenniums gone by. Majestic & captivating, and tourists from all over come to see this piece of Americana in the ocean plugging a lava spewing dormant volcano too. On the West side, a mountain of a rock in a painted desert of guano, granite and many components of the earth’s development, on the Northern side, the shaded & misty ocean breezes bring fauna, plant life, and sea creature from the pacific and more. Breathtaking, awe inspiring and, a must see Take a break from the touristy areas, the fine dining & your rooms’ pillow top bed. Do, come admire what has been created by the Universe, the artist that designed this glorious appendage that keeps the Central Coast a gem undisturbed, unpolluted, and un-scarred by humankind for all to enjoy!
