Coleman park located between the Morro Rock and the Morro Bay power plant stacks. It has a sweeping panoramic view of the bay. Multiple picnic benches for a great picnic, however it is sand, no grass here, and both watching and people watching right from your table. There is a bench by the bay that enables you to watch the boats the others the seals and no one will walk between you and the bay, if you prefer nature only. There are restrooms crude but functional. There is a basketball court if you’d like to play basketball by the bay. This parking lot is almost always uncluttered, as most people park up the road by Morro Rock to watch the waves and surfers. Oh yes there are swings for the wee ones. Often there are otters and seals visible right from you table. Coleman park can be a fun stop Down By The Bay.

When we were at Monarch Grove looking at the butterflies, we had mentioned to the docent that we were headed towards Morro Bay. Him–«You’re going to see the Rock, right? Not just look at it from a distance, but to actually get on the Rock? Find Coleman Park and just keep driving up the path as far as you can go.» We’re glad we listened to him because we had a great time there! The park itself(from what we saw on our drive-through) was pretty nice and well-used by the people. A childrens’ play area, picnic tables, a good-sized restroom building with showers for the surfers, plenty of parking and a great view of the shoreline & the Morro Bay Rock. It was still sunny when we arrived, but when we were driving back through 2 hours later, we were treated to a spectacular sunset from the park’s vantage point. My poor camera skills failed to capture the lovely sight. As instructed, we drove through and entered a pathway that brought us right onto The Rock! Thank you, Mr. Coleman for providing all of us the opportunity to enjoy the Rock up close!

What: — A small park by the Morro Bay More Info: — Free street parking — Fish, Seals, Sea lions, Sea Otters — Mallard, snowy egret, Common Loon, Herons, Other birds — Fishing — Kids play area The Coleman Park is located on the causeway that connects the Morro Rock with the mainland. As it is along the Morro Bay, one can see people fishing, kayakers dragging their kayaks to the shore, sea animals and birds. We carefully observed a couple of herons sticking their necks out and stealthily walking in the water to catch their prey. A nice place to relax by the Bay!
