One of my favorite spots to eat dinner in Morro Bay. Go for the chicken fried steak or my ultimate favorite the Honey Fried Chicken. Entrees served with your choice of soup or salad. Soups: both Manhattan and New England style chowders and chicken noodle soup. Side salad is simple but the house ranch gives a flavor explosion! Staff is welcoming and knowledgeable. They also have Mexican selections but I haven’t had a chance to try those yet. I have heard from friends that their Mexican food is delicious! Looks like this requires another trip down there lol now on to desserts… Everything is absolutely mouth watering! I suggest the banana or coconut cream! Lunch can easily set you back $ 15 per person. Dinner $ 20 or so once you factor in a drink. They do have wine. See photos for pricing. All in all this is a comfort food/homemade desserts/family get together kind of place. No counter seating only tables and booths. Parking is decent. Adjacent to Econo Lodge right off Main Street. Interior décor is outdated but it works. If you are from Morro Bay, you’ll know exactly what I mean. But that’s what makes the Hungry Fisherman what it is… A local gem beloved by all. This is the kind of place grandpa goes to have his evening cup of coffee and a slice of pie. :)

Great«typical» coffee shop. Can always get a table, good for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Mom loves their burgers, and I enjoy their garden burgers which are the best I’ve had as a new vegan. Lots of menu choices.

Me and my fiancé came here based on the review on Unilocal. After we got there with high expectation they were instantly thrown back down to to the floor which was dirty just as much as the tables. So we stayed and then ordered. Our waiter forgot what we had order from the soda, soup, salad, and entrée. When we had gotten our food, which was chicken and chips for me. Shrimp and chips for my fiancé. The chips(fries) tasted very old and chicken was dry. The same thing for my fiancé but the shrimp was plain and lukewarm. When we were just dissatisfied with the food and service. we told the manager and she took our food off our table very aggressively. And took 7min to comeback with the tab after she was yelling to the cooks and waiter in Spanish.(About us). She brought the tab she said we need to pay for the shrimp and chicken and chips. So I said«but we didn’t even eat a whole shrimp or chicken strip, why would we pay for something we didn’t eat?». Her response«because there’s nothing wrong with it. just because that you don’t like it doesn’t mean it isn’t good!» So that felt very threatening. But after that we didn’t have to pay for the entrees which was about the only good thing that happened. If I was in MorroBay I would avoid this place with extreme caution. The reviews are a lie.

I have been coming to morro bay since I was a kid, and we always seem to gravitate to this place. It’s where the locals go. However, recently I have found their food has lowered in quality and price does not reflect the taste. A sandwich is around $ 11 and though it comes with sides, it can be compared to fast food quality with soggy bread, oily texture, and bland toppings. My last meal here I got a light case of food poisoning, probably from old or dirty oil. I may or may not frequent in the future. There are fewer and fewer in between options for decent food in Morro, and chosen between fast food or classy dining on the water are nearing your only choices.

Carnitas was dry, beans from a can, Spanish rice cold and dry like eating sand from the beach. Salsa tasted like cold tomatoes and not much else. The service is pretty good but the restaurant is pretty run down and sad looking on the inside and with the bad food it’s a wonder it stays in business. The clientele seems to be mostly older retired individuals and the food is cheap so that must keep the business afloat.

Our family of 4 stopped here to have breakfast on a Saturday morning. Service was great & there was not a long wait for our food. Our Food was excellent — staff was friendly & very attentive. We ordered kids pancakes, French toast & eggs Benedict. All were delicious. Husband really enjoyed their coffee.

Eggs Benedict was awesome! They will bring out a sample of the hollandaise sauce for you to try out before you order. All sauces and soups are home made. The restaurant owner is also the cook, so you know that you are getting a quality meal. The service is amazing. Very friendly! Enjoy this favorite hangout of all the Morro Bay locals!

First time here and will be a customer for life. Had a new York steak sammie. They were able to switch cole slaw for macaroni salad, no questions asked. Bottomless ice tea and the staff was on point for the refills. The food tastes wonderful. Best clam chowder I’ve ever tasted. Even nibbled on the fish n chips plate a friend had… Wowwie soooo good. Great portions.

Everything in this area all seems to have related issues: older, dated, eclectic and in need of some renovating, but quaint. The sea mural and giant sail fish on the wall I get. Lady liberty and the Mexican offerings I don’t(only one has fish). Oh well… First night we walked around the corner from our motel. We both wanted to keep it light. Wife had bowl of clam chowder. I had the board special of soup and sandwich for $ 6.95. Not sure what wifey’s soup went for. Broth was on the thicker side that we both prefer like a chowda should be. Potatoes perfectly cooked and a piece of clam in almost every spoonful. Of the three we sampled this trip this was the wife’s favorite. Not my fav chowder of the trip but a close second, needs a bit more clam flavor in the broth for me, but I would order again. The sandwich comes with a choice of bread. I got whole wheat. Not a good choice if not eating right away. It fell apart when I had it about 3 am. Average pressed ham, fresh crisp iceberg, hothouse(bland) tomatoes. Decent portion. Might get again, but will order sturdier bread and ask for a side of mustard and a slice of red onion. Not bad for a late night/early am snack. Second night the wife didn’t feel like getting dressed so I walked over for some take out. Three bean soup on special so I got that, I didn’t catch the price. She wanted a roast beef on rye and I got tuna salad on sourdough, a much sturdier bread. I asked for mustard for her roast beef and a slice of red onion, both which they did(I checked before I left). Plastic utensils also provided with a smile. Sandwiches come with a side for the price $ 7.50. I got one mac salad and one cole slaw. Crackers provided for the soup. Wife wanted a slice of banana cream pie, $ 6.50 I think. Everything was good. Nothing to write home about, but solid, adequate portions. Mac salad had a bit too much pickle for me, but still edible. Tuna salad a little on the sweet side, hothouse bland tomatoes. Some pepper fixed up those issues. The beans in the soup were perfect, none of them undercooked or mush either. Wife loved the pie. She said it was just like homemade, which their menu touts. Just not enough real banana pieces for her, but she devoured it, and the portion for the price was very generous. We will eat here again.
