Steak ‘n Shake

Hi. I’m a Steak & Shake fan. We have one by our house in IL and I love to stop at them when on a driving trip. I especially love the Happy Hour milkshakes. Unfortunately, I had a very bad experience at this location
This store, located at exit 231 on I-​75, happened to be in a good ”take a break from driving” spot for us on our trip to and from Florida. The first time we stopped there on the way down, It took 25 minutes for them to serve us a milkshake and a diet coke. Also, the coke ended up not being diet, but we were back on the road and couldn’t ask for a change. On the way back, I thought we would try it one more time (maybe the first time was an anomaly). The 2^nd time it took 30 minutes for just a milkshake!
I will still visit S&S (esp. the top notch one in Hoffman Estates, IL!), but I now know to avoid this one (exit 231)!!! Save yourself a lot of heartache and just keep driving.

We visited on a Sunday night and the place was packed. The drive thru line was almost out to the street. But we found a parking spot and got inside. Still had to wait on a table — did I say they were packed? But Mrs Carolyn was the hostess and she is FANTASTIC! She got us seated and kept checking in on us throughout our meal.
Food was good but it took a really long time to get it.
But Mrs Carolyn’s pleasant spirit helped make what may have been frustrating into a pleasant experience. She is all we could talk about. Great job!

disappointed in the service of our waitress Ashley B. dirty water glass was given, sent it back for another glass never received a new clean glass. plate was dirty when our food came out. grossed out and dissatisfied.
received only two napkins for eating. no extra napkins were given asked. facility was dirty.

every single time that i visit this location they never have supplies. in the drive thru line for 30mins for them to tell me they are out of buns. not the first time but the last for me!!! will never visit this location again!!!

Horrible service, we waited 15 to 20 minutes before anyone wld even look at us. They sat us down gave us menus and never came back. I didn’t even want to give them 1 star. I’m visiting from AZ and will never eat at a steak and shake ever again at one of my visits

So there is always a long line at this location. I ordered food for a friend and how they manage to change Western BBQ and bacon into a Portable lo mushroom burger is beyond my imagination. So I get the order and have to beg for a receipt since it wasn’t for me. My one only fault was not completely checking contents of bag, but that would mean opening someone else’s food correct? So of course they are irritated and hungry so drive all the way back with wrong sandwich. Asked for a refund and wow. They don’t give refunds, really after wasting my time and gas and ruining appetites because of your employees not paying attention to detail especially when you refuse to give refunds. Okay bye steak and shake. Now I see why this location has been closed for random reasons.

It should be −2÷5. Service was incredibly slow and it was only 3 tables occupied. Messed up our orders and when we talked to the manager he didn’t care. Don’t even bother eating here its not worth it. The mcdonald’s next door or Arby’s has much better service. We didn’t even bother tipping cause the service was so crappy.

The food is a little by too greasy and currently the milkshake maker isn’t working. The service is extremely slow and it took me 20 Minutes to get to the front of the drive through even though there were 2 cars ahead.

Food tastes great, but you could watch a Quentin Tarrantino movie in the time it takes to get your food here.

Absolutely P I T I F U L ! I give it one star because a negative 1 star wasn’t available. They need to close the doors and implode the place.

I was disappointed in the quality of the food. my daughter ordered a burger with no pickles, onions s, lettuce. guess what she got! !!

Been sitting in hear for 25 min and only just got our drinks. To bad the cream for the coffee is bad. About to walk out

This place is horrible I will never come here ever again. My server acts as if he can remember anything. It took me til Christmas to get just a soda alone and when the food came out my fries were cold.

I wish I could tell you what the food was like. Sadly I cannot.
I had a craving for steak and shake and this is the only one within 30 miles of me. I was reluctant even pulling into this store, but addiction makes you do crazy things.
The restaurant was at 90% capacity, with a few open tables. We were not greeted or anything, and there was a party in front of us. Over the next several minutes a number of additional parties filtered in and out, leaving about 7 empty tables and 20 people standing in the lobby area.
This is where it gets interesting. The hostess, who has not spoken to anyone up until now, announces that there will be a long delay. Just to clarify… She said maybe 30 minutes to even be sat. To be sat in one of the empty tables? Mind you at this point enough time has passed that only 60% of the tables are sat.
I was tempted to stay and wait, but took this is as foreshadowing. If you can’t handle a minor rush, that is probably just the tip of the iceberg.
If you are in Henry county go to a much better option off exit 218.

This place had Terrible Service there are many examples I can give:
First it took forever to be seated, our waitress Brittany came and got our drinks and then was never seen again until she brought the check.
We ordered a side of cheese sauce and the lady that brought the food asked someone else to bring it to the table but that never happened. After waiting and waiting I found that lady and asked her again to please get the cheese sauce, once again it never happened. I ended up having to ask a guy (AL) to bring it and he did immediately and apologized for the wait. He was the only good thing about this place.
We then didn’t get any napkins and since our waitress had disappeared we got up and asked a manager. She proceeded to tell us that someone at the front counter could get them for us… not particularly sure why she couldn’t do it herself.
There were multiple food complaints to which the manager would roll her eyes and continue on about her business. No apologies that the food/​drink wasn’t satisfactory — nothing.
We planned on ordering milkshakes at the end but we were never asked and didn’t want to deal with the hassle.
As I mentioned before AL was great, he was running around to all of his tables trying his best to get things done and was the only one I noticed with any manners and any motive to get things done.
All in all I would not recommend stopping in to eat here, and based on all of the reviews before me, it looks like I am not the only one.

MOST AWFUL STEAK & SHAKE IN THE WORLD!
I just wish I could give this place 0 stars, but whatevs.
so it was close to midnight when our group of 10 walked in. since I was not from this area, some of the people from our group had already warned me about this location. I just had to witness it for myself though.
we stood there for a good 15 mins. or so and still NO ONE wanted to greet us. we saw the staff walk around and glance at us, but never did they approach us. I just don’t understand. it’s an open space so I know your eyes saw us even if you tried not to make eye contact. also, why would you turn down money? dumb staff and management at this location.
I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THIS STEAK & SHAKE TO ANYONE!!!

Decided to stop by Steak ‘n Shake and was somewhat unimpressed. My friend Dre found a piece of plastic in his Frisco melt. I had the Frisco melt too. Mine was free of plastic, and was pretty tasty. ³⁄₅ stars.

Has to be just about the slowest restaurant that I have ever had the misfortune of going to. If your going to use the drive-​thru make sure you have plenty of gas and time. Surely there is a better way to run a place then what they are doing.
The food once you order and then wait forever to get it. Is just your typical steak and shake food. They say made to order just not sure if it’s from the one 30 miles up the road and they bring it here.
AVOID. Only reason two stars cause the food was decent.

This truly must be the most poorly run Steak and Shake in Georgia. Inconsistent food quality and consistent poor customer service, especially in the drive-​thru, and this has been going on for years. I seriously don’t know how this particular location has been able to stay in business, aside from the fact that they’re conveniently located right next to an Interstate-​75 exit.
Today (Sunday, 05/​17/​2015) really took the cake. I pulled into the drive-​thru round about mid evening. The sit-​in crowd wasn’t particularly heavy and there was only one vehicle ahead of me. We sat and sat and sat. I noticed that the driver in front of me wasn’t placing his order. Finally he pulled off. In the meanwhile, other cars were pulling in behind me, almost out to the street at one point. I pulled up to the intercom after the driver in front of me left … and waited and waited and waited. I even honked the horn after a few minutes. No acknowledgment by personnel, no apology for the wait, not even a «we’ll be with you in a moment.» People behind me eventually started pulling off too. One of the ladies behind me even called out to me and asked, «Is it working?» After roughly 10 or 15 minutes, literally, I’d had enough and went somewhere else to pick up my food.
The sad thing is that this is a normal routine for this location. They clearly do not value the business of their customers. As I stated earlier, this has been going on for years, and I KNOW that management must has received a significant number of complaints by now, especially when I see so many negative online reviews about them.
I’ve had enough. I won’t be visiting there again. The food preparation at this location isn’t even of a high enough quality to even consider continuing to tolerate this kind of disrespect.

I’m starting to give up on this place, everytime I come here, the service is bad and the floor and tables are dirty, I walk in and stood there for a good 2 mins waiting for them to be seated, they didn’t greet me with a smile, they greeted me with smirk, I’m looking across at the table next to us and its soo filthy, all I see on the floor is napkin, and straws! They take forever on me food, and I’m not the usually person to complain cause I love food, but this is the worst place!
