Mr. Kim has serviced my elderly mother's car for many years. He has always REPAIRED ONLY WHAT WAS NECESSARY, and, unlike some repair shops, never took advantage of her advanced age and diminished acuity. He took care of her car as if it were his own mother's, and, his prices were/are more than fair. Mom recently passed away, so we traveled from NY to IL to start settling her affairs. While visiting, our own car malfunctioned and would not start. We had it towed to Dempster Auto Service. There were a couple of much more expensive "fixes" for the same "symptoms," but Mr. Kim and his assistant tried the LEAST EXPENSIVE OPTION FIRST. Not only did they fix the problem, Mr. Kim called us a couple of days later to make sure the car was still working properly! If you're looking for an honest auto repair shop, this is it!

I am updating my review that I wrote in 2013 (which is below and was 5 stars then).
Dempster Auto Service is STILL 5 stars and the nicest, most knowledgeable and fast place to bring your car for ANY service. Mr. Kim has helped me and my mom when she has visited from Roscoe, IL and her car had a few problems. I did not want her driving all the way home wondering if the car was OK and Mr. Kim checked it and fixed it for her and assured us it was OK. Dempster Auto Service is easy to find, easy to pull in and park and easy to work with Mr. Kim. Please try it out, I promise you won’t be disappointed.

This is a nice little gem of a place. Mr. Kim is super nice and friendly, always smiling and very fair! Dempster Auto Service is not looking to nickle and dime you but to only give you the facts and fix your vehicle at a decent price. I have been coming here for years for oil changes and the now and then repairs like spark plugs, air filter, brakes. Mr. Kim is accommodating and explains everything so you are clear on what is needed and what he and his team have done.
I HIGHLY recommend Dempster Auto Service. Mr. Kim is awesome!

We were on our way to a wedding in Wisconsin and needed an emergency repair. We stopped in this little shop and were treated unbelievably well. They took a look at the car, fixed it right away, and we were back on the road in 30 minutes. They didn’t even want to charge us! But we insisted on paying something because the service was phenomenal and they got us out of a jam. Great place!

Took my car there for a brake job and swapping my tires. Very good with timing and gets what you want done done without any upselling or telling you this or that is wrong. Price is meh, not the best deal you can get, but average

Finally, an honest mechanic. Mr. Kim is awesome. Simply put he does not lie, cheat, or steal. Love this guy. I will never take my car anywhere else.

This is a 5 star auto shop.
I have visited this place many time. Most recently I went here because my battery completely went off. Not only did they put a new battery when I came back, they also adjusted the clock so that I don’t have to do it. Little things, right?
Very reasonably priced and very detailed service. Very honest about the assessment and estimate. Will definitely recommend this place to anybody.

I’ve been coming here for years and never dissatisfied. I come for all of my oil change appointments and inspections. They are busy so make an appointment ahead of time. The prices here are great and Mr Kim will never do unnecessary fixes. He is very honest like the other reviews have said and I speak very highly of this place everywhere i go. Highly recommended!

Learned about Dempster Auto Service from my next door neighbor who had been going there for several years. I drive a 2001 Acura TL and I’ve literally had ALL my auto repair work done at this shop (replaced my transmission, timing belt, new tires, brakes, and all oil changes). Mr. Kim, the owner, is very honest. I’ve been going to him long enough to know that he doesn’t come up with unnecessary fixes to make money off his customers. Everything he has done on my car done operates well. All of his customers appear to be returning customers, and his shop is always jam packed, I think this attests to the fact that he does quality work and a good price. I’d highly recommend this place!

I’ve been coming here for years for work on my Honda Civics — the owner is Korean and a bit stiff over the phone, but the quality of his work is high and the price is very reasonable. He replaced my 1997 Civic timing belt for less than half the price of anyone else I could find. When I recently called about having a tune-​up on my 2005 Civic, his first question was «are you sure you need tune-​up?» and then offered to do an inspection to determine if it was necessary so that he could in his own words «save you monies.»
