I was planning on takeout catering from Big Chef in Mount Airy for 70 employees for an associate luncheon. I spoke with two different people who misinformed me of portion sizes and who also changed the pricing several times. When I called back to confirm my order and actual cost, Amy told me that I was tying up their phone line and she was loosing other phone order business. I was placing a $ 350 order that she somehow insisted was $ 456, and I was inconveniencing her by asker her to explain how she calculated my total! She then proceeded to hang up on me! I will NEVER do business with them again… horrible customer service!

This business often gets my order wrong. They had read my order back to me today including what I did not want included in my food. Sure enough, two out of three of the items I wanted excluded were in my food. Then when I complain they really do not give a crap. They tell me two people checked my food and it was right. Really? Cause I am looking at my food and it’s NOT right. They hung up on me. Most businesses in the food industry would at least PRETEND to give a crap and say Oh, sorry that happened. Unbelievably poor customer service. The food is very very so-so, so not worth the extremely poor customer service. So, not gonna be back.

I’ve been coming here since I was a teenager. The food quality is probably about a 4 star, but the service is great. I really recommend there crab wontons. They also work for vegetarian diets. The price is average, but you get large portions.

***RUDE*** I would give this place a zero if I could. Not because of the average food because this teenage girl at the front. I asked for an order of tofu separate from vegetables. She said they come together and they couldn’t accommodate every customer. She followed up with«do you want the order or not?». And«you don’t have to come here.»

I’ve been coming here for the past couple years as its so close. If you go at night and get tsos lo mein and wonton it’s 12 $ good for 2 meals but as the guy said above its bland. But at lunch it’s 8 $ I honestly do like eating here but I’ll have to try Lee’s and see if it’s better. They never budge on prices, family owned.

This used to be the only chinese take-out place my parents would order from when I would come to visit. We recently began to get take out from Lee’s Chinese Take-out instead and after trying Big Chef again I remember why. Everything here is REALLY mediocre. It all sort of tastes the same and even dishes that are supposed to be super flavorful(wonton soup, steamed dumplings) are just lacking something… and it’s not MSG. Everything is just kind of bland. I’ll order from here if I’m in town and have a terrible craving, but there are better chinese places in Mt. Airy now.

A good«Chinese Joint»! Be prepared to do «Take out» as there are only 2 tables to eat there! The fried and steamed dumplings are both great! I always order the Chicken and Broccoli in garlic sauce(It is not on the menu that way but they will make it special for you if you ask) Other Winners… Combo Lo Mein, Moo Shu Pork(ask for extra pancakes), General Tso’s are all great and reasonably priced! Go there for lunch, before 3PM, and order off the lunch menu for the best value. A large meal with steamed or fried rice, egg roll, Soup, and Entrée for less than $ 5 Yeah!!! Big Chef Rocks!

My family ordered three dishes: General Tso Chicken, Kung Pao Chicken and Broccoli with Garlic sauce. Three dishes that should have had distinct flavors. We gained consensus in the family that all three had the same exact sauces. A bland slightly sweet characterless, goo that failed to provide any flavor. There is such a great opportunity for a place like this to produce quality food at a good cost in this community. It’s unfortunate that they appear to choose the lazy route. My recommendation: Find an alternative Chinese Food carryout source.

Decent American-style Chinese carryout. Typical suburb fare. The crab/cheese wontons(I think lots of other places call them rangoons) are rich and yummy. The shrimp toast is a bit greasy but very good. I love their wonton soup. Egg rolls are fair. Entrees: Moo-Shoo pork or beef; Happy Family; General Tso chicken are all very good. Prices are more than reasonable.
