On your birthday they do the usual, you know they sing and throw pie in your face. They did that to me on my birthday. It was great until they stole my credit card.

I’ve been coming here since the restaurant was called Chile Verde and I have to tell ya, as far as Mexican cuisine goes in Mt. Airy, this is the place. The restaurant is clean and the service has always been friendly. I miss the old owners of this place but it’s for personal reasons. Usually, this place is busy and seating is tight but the wait is well worth it.

The last 4 times we have gone in to eat there the cooks and staff have messed up our orders. Whatever we order the meat is always chicken. My husband dislikes lettuce and green peppers. Neither one of us can handle caffeine or chocolate for medical reasons. We ask politely from the start for no red meats or pork products. When and if we order desert its always a Flan with Whip Cream only nothing more and nothing less. These are things they cannot seem to get right from the waiter/waitress down to the cook. Last night we came in for dinner, one of the management staff a rather short well built man said he would be substituting for our waiter so we would not complain. We felt as if they were stereotyping us as complainers when they are the ones that have refused to take our order and serve it as it was taken. Unless they would like to pay the hospital bill for serving us caffeine then by all means. During Mayberry Days they waited 20 minutes before serving our plates which was nothing more than Grilled Chicken Fajita Nachos and when we got the plates the chicken was tough and cold and the rest of the plates were barely warm. And the staff acted put upon that we had the nerve to ask for the plates to be reheated or redone. We saw several people that day that were seated after us get their food before us in a timely manor and yet we did not complain about that. The cooks and staff cannot seem to follow their own menus either. This has been repeatedly proven especially when asking for items to be made with other than beef or pork. My personal reasons for not eating those meats are because I cannot health wise and neither can my husband. What we got last night for attitude was unreal. It’s not our doing that they don’t listen and serve food correctly as the order is taken. They have no right to pass their blame for mistakes onto the customer or make the customer feel inferior and to be blamed for their lack of understanding and communication. And don’t flip it in my face El Chile Rejo as English being a barrier for not understanding because I can play that card too, for starters English is not my first language either, but I at least go out of my way to try to understand and comprehend it and I am thankful for spellcheck. If they want some serious complaints for starters they have grease accumulated on their baseboards that is black that has not been cleaned off per request of their local health and sanitation inspector. Even though I was off the clock from a different district I couldn’t help but notice water damage along the base wall 2 booths down from the eagle headed towards the kitchen. It’s been there for sometime and has accumulated what appears to be black and white mold on the wall going down into the baseboards. This does not include the fact that a lot of their fixtures are not dusted and cleaned regularly. This is just a starter, I am sure if I looked further I could find a few other things but again this is not my district that I am assigned to and I am sure the health and sanitation inspector for this area has addressed the issues that I briefly used for an example as to them El Chile Rejo refusing to comply, communicate, and understand. If they did their rating score would be better than what it is at a 96.4. I think I have made my point. We won’t be back to eat there and we will encourage others not to go back there either.

Good food, fun atmosphere. Although too much grease in a typical plate. They were willing to veganize my plate, which is a big huge plus. I agree that the chips could improve, but it wasn’t a deal breaker. Our waiter was a nice, patient guy and provided great service. I would highly recommend.

Excellent food! Our waitress was new and a bit slow but other than that I am glad we found this place on Unilocal!Salsa was fresh and guacamole was excellent!

I wasn’t in the mood for a heavy lunch and almost passed on Chili Rojo but I was starving. I ordered the Spinach Quesadilla, it promised and delivered the perfect balance of spinach, rice and black beans. Along with generous portions of pico de gallo, guacamole and lettuce. The service was fast and great –when I stupidly put my straw into the salsa and not into my iced tea, they replaced it immediately with a smile. As I left, I noticed I felt satisfied but not stuffed. We have lived in the area for twelve years and sometimes forget about the tried and true options. After bragging to my husband about my meal, we are meeting there for supper… twice in one day, that’s a record LOL Spinach Quesadilla is my new favorite.

Chile Rojo, Mount Airy. This place is awesome. Not only is it the best mexican in Mount Airy its likely some of the best that there is anywhere in NC. It’s all that. Plenty of parking in a private lot, outdoor seating, and lots of room inside is only scratching the surface of Chile Rojo. The restaurant and restrooms were clean. Service was fast and friendly, and they got us everything we asked for the first time, and it was all as we ordered it. That is no small task in itself. Chips and salsa were good. My tea glass never went empty. For food I had shrimp tacos. 3 soft taco’s loaded with fresh grilled shrimp, and onions. I substituted a guacamole salad for rice or beans. The salad was absolutely great. It had nice shredded lettuce, fresh tomato, graded cheese, and fresh guacamole along with cucumbers. The taco’s were loaded with shrimp and they tasted just fantastic. All of the food was fresh tasting, served hot. I have also had the ACC, grilled shrimp on rice with cheese sauce. Again, outstanding and loaded with fresh grilled shrimp. Its hard to find a mexican restaurant where the seafood is good. This is it boys and girls. The holy grail of mexican, with service to match. Easy 5 stars!

Great food, lousy chips. How can a Mexican restaurant that serves such good food, serve such lousy chips? They were not the hot, light and crispy corn chips that you expect to be served with salsa, quickly after being seated, while waiting for the beverage of choice. Thankful I don’t go to a good Mexican restaurant for the chips. I ordered the grilled pollo con salsa verde, and could have licked the plate clean! Absolutely delicious entrée. Note to management: Consider a different vendor for your chips!

The best Mexican food I have had since I left San Diego. I highly recommend the twin chimichangas. They are absolutely amazing. If it wasn’t a 8 hour drive from my home I would be here every week.

Great food, generous portions, and excellent service! My husband and I were starving and in the mood for good Mexican food — Chile Rojo filled the bill. We started with a bowl of the lovely guacamole which was a great choice! The house salsa is good(not great but not bad either) and the chips are straight from the bag. The menu is exhaustive with plenty of options for everyone. I’m a vegetarian and was happily surprised at the numerous menu choices and combination plates. The patio is a great place to enjoy good food and conversation. Chile Rojo is a place I’d visit again.

Awesome place. Great waiter, did not had to write anything down! And we were with a group of 7! 4 of us had the fajitas, they tasted great. The refried beans are definitely special, tasted as I had never had before but very good. Friendly service.

I have eaten food here multiple times and it has always been bland and nasty. I gave this place 3 chances and it was bad every time and 3 strikes and your out. The staff was very nice but you can’t eat somewhere where the food is always bad. I had 3 different dishes too. I had the enchiladas the first time, then the taquitos and finally tacos and it was always bad. There are many other Mexican Restaurants to choose from in Mount Airy. This should not be one of your choices if you want mexican food. I would rather go to Taco Bell.
