This is a nice little Visitor’s Center to see on your way up the mountain to visit the Sierra Club’s Harwood Lodge and go hiking or skiing. You won’t need an Adventure Pass to park at the Lodge. The Visitor Center has lots of gifts and books and the staff is knowledgeable about all the local trails. A couple of things to make this place better would be to have a webcam on their website and/or road conditions, too.

We stopped off at the Mt Baldy Visitor Center early Saturday morning to purchase our $ 5 Adventure Pass. The woman who was working at the time was friendly and very helpful, providing us with maps and parking info for our hike that day. Others were purchasing permits for various different areas. A good spot to use an actual restroom.

I stop in once a year to renew my camp stove permit. Friendly staff and a nice display of historic items and local animals.

This is a nice pit stop on your way to Mt. Baldy Ski Resort. You won’t need an Angeles National Forest Adventure Pass if you’re planning to use the lifts. The resort will make you pay a $ 5.00 parking fee. The volunteers at this site are friendly and willing to provide education on the history of the area. Kids will get a kick out of the native wildlife on display inside the center. There are also displays of early Mt. Baldy settlers and another showcasing the mining history. They sell various souvenirs. If you see a t-shirt that you like I would just get it. The selection on the mountain is not much better. Outside there are some fun huts and other structures for the kids to explore and play in.

A fine Ranger Station! Buy your Adventure Pass here. You can buy the guidebook for the area here: A Guide to Mt. Baldy and San Antonio Canyon. Maps and flyers can also be found here. The Rangers are always friendly and helpful. Sometimes water can be purchased here. If you need supplies your best bet is across the street.

If you’re going to park your car anywhere in the Mt. Baldy recreational area, you should be getting the Angeles National Forest Adventure Pass which they sell here for $ 5. Alternatively, you can get them across the street at the Mt. Baldy Lodge, or at any recreational sporting good stores like Big 5 or REI, or even some gas stations near the ANF. If you’re hiking into certain wilderness areas, like the Cucamonga Wilderness(which is only couple miles in from Ice House Canyon Trail) they ask that you let them know you’re going there and they will give you a free wilderness permit which should be carried at all times. There are bathrooms behind the visitor center building and the staff is very friendly. There is also some interpretive center stuff there I haven’t really looked at closely. Currently, they are open until 3:30pm on weekends(Friday — Sunday).
