This was my first time to Belk. I stopped by this location because I was under the impression that they had a lot of different KitchenAid attachments. I was in the market for a 6qt lift style, metal bowl. I looked on the website & noticed they had it for $ 44.99, normally $ 59.99. What a deal! The website doesn’t have any way to check if an item is online only, or in stock at the store. I found a $ 10 off $ 50 coupon online. I thought I’d get the bowl & a couple woodwick candles. I arrived at the store a week before Christmas. Not too busy. The store is a cross between a Kohls & an old JC Penny. I found the small kitchen section & only saw a few of the 5 quart, tilt back mixers. I asked a woman for assistance & she said that was all the kitchenAid stuff they had. Online they had about 8 pages of stuff. In the store they had a small table with some mixers. I was annoyed that I drove all that way to not get what I needed. I couldn’t find the woodwick candles either. Bust.

Encountered the worst employee in retail history I’ve ever seen. 20-something girl(nametag: Videlia I believe), chewing on a toothpick the whole time she was checking me out. I was returning an item. She asked me how to do things. She asked me if she was allowed to refund it on a credit card(I paid with a gift card originally) — I said sure, whatever, because I just wanted to get out of there. I sure do hope the refund appears on my statement, because she wasn’t even sure the transaction was correct. She did not greet me when it was my turn, I had to say«Hello?» because she was staring off into space. Just completely obnoxious and acted like a 2nd grader, giggling over the store intercom when she had to page a manager. Entirely unprofessional.

i know working in retail is a hard thing to do: putting up with persnickety customers, cleaning up after slobbish customers, etc. but really, this place has some of the rudest staff i’ve encountered. i overheard some very kind, polite customers ask an associate if they had shoes in a certain size, and the assoc. said she wasn’t sure. the customers then kindly asked again if she had one of those hand held scanners that could tell if they did, and the associate just kept walking without response, then turned around and said, «everything we have is out, i don’t know, i’m just here to clean up.» she then began straightening the shoe boxes out and turned and said she couldn’t help them, and they could ask«tina». who the hell is tina? i didn’t know, they didn’t know. they stood there kind of dumbfounded. oh yeah, i had also been standing in the empty shoe section for 10 minutes with a boot in my hand waiting for help, and no one even acknowledged me. several associates walked past me, avoiding eye contact, not asking if they could help me, no sign of kindness of caring, or customer help at all. i’ve never had a good experience in this belk, it just seems like the customers are bothering the associated by being, well, customers. :/

I usually like Belk, as it has a mix of designer bridge lines & more affordable brands, as well as a great lingerie/underwear section. I have to laugh that Matt L. called it a «discount» department store. Sorry Matt, to me, $ 120 Free People blouse is definitely a step up from J.C. Penney, as is a $ 450 Kors dress. Whatever, Matt, take me shopping some time! But I digress. I went to Belk just browsing, and received a nice compliment on my vintage coat from the salesperson while checking out the clearance rack. Great. However, as she & my friend & another saleslady chatted, this one salesperson became louder and louder, laughing and talking. My friend managed to get away from her. I was trying… I noticed her hair was a mess of bedhead, and her sweater sleeve was in tatters. There was no «Belk» pin on her chest, and I wondered if she actually worked there, or was just some weirdo chatting me up. She mentioned she DID work there, and then went on, and on, and on… I finally managed to get out of the conversation(which was about thrift stores), and she said loudly«You can’t be too rich, you’re shopping the clearance rack!» All righty, then. RUDE! You know, I realize Belk doesn’t pay a lot of money to it’s salespeople. I don’t know if they get insurance. However, I’ve worked retail sales myself, and I knew to comb my hair, wear clothing without holes, and to speak in a quiet tone of voice on the sales floor. I’ve always been really impressed by their salespeople and this was really sad. It almost seemed like she was drunk, as she was completely unaware of her volume or manners. I don’t say that lightly, knowing this may be read. As we left, we could hear her clearly shouting to her fellow saleslady across the entire floor. UGHH! Gross.

I agree wtih Rachel M… lame clothes, no suits or seperates, prices are too high. I gave it 2 stars because of the clinique counter…

When you go to a discount department store like Belk, you don’t expect much. You should expect competent service and people not to interrupt. A few days ago, I went to a Belk and made a few purchases, including a nice pair of pants at a good price. When I got home and showed it to my wife, she noticed the anti-theft device was still in the pants. This left me unable to wear them to my new job. When I went back today, I had the receipt, and went back to the store, and went to a nearby cashier, which was in the ladies’ department. Since all I needed was the device taken off, I figured it shouldn’t be a problem. But before I could explain my need, she interrupted me and asked if it was men’s or women’s pants, I admitted it was men’s, and then she curtly told me that I needed to go to the men’s dept, clear across the store. Now when I got there, I was able to explain my situation, and the girl at that counter was very nice and helped me out, but the annoyance had run it’s course, I thanked her for how nice she was, and finally got my pants free from the threat of alarm(which activated as I walked into the store).
