I had the black and blue burger and chose the veggie burger option with Parmesan truffle fries and it was delicious and plentiful, and my wife enjoyed the fish taco as well. The salted caramel stout is also really delicious on tap. Glad we found the place, the food was exceptional.

The food here is so well done. And the beer selection is fantastic. Lots of hard to find beers on rotation. As many reviews have said, the mac and cheese is amazing. The truffle fries are better than those at Graze(which I find too salty). We’ve gone for an early dinner(4:45PM on a Friday) and brunch. Brunch is crowded(but it was Father’s Day) so we made a reservation(they take reservations of 5+, otherwise First come first serve). Our one complaint is there Biscuits and Gravy is not great and overpriced, you’ll find better at Cracker Barrel. Other than that, reasonable prices for tasty food and a laid back atmosphere.

First off… The food. It was OK. We had fried calamari to start. It was a good portion, crisp, not chewy, seasoned nicely, but a bit over breaded for me. I liked the aioli and fried jalapenos that came with the calamari. I had the barnyard burger with a side Greek salad. For the upcharge, the salad wasn’t worth it. My burger was cooked perfectly and juicy, but needed seasoning. Now for the service… We were not happy with our waitress. She seemed put out by having to wait on us. I always tip 20%, even for bad service, because I understand people have off days. Hopefully that was the case and she was just tired and having a bad day.

Well, I had a pretty awesome first visit to the Coleman Public House. This Mount Pleasant staple wasnt on my radar due to the all around uninspiring visit I had at Maybank Public House, which shares the same menu as CPH. But this place was different. Atmosphere – Around 10pm on a Thursday, I walk in, and there are a few people at the bar, and the hightops in the bar area are full. There are two tv’s going, people are talking, drinking laughing. At Maybank Public House, when the bar area was full of people drinking, talking and laughing, I could not hear myself think. It was unbearably loud and impossible to hear. Here, the sound is just low and natural, even with a full bar area which contributed nicely to my experience. There was a mixed crowd which was cool, and aside from the table full of women debating loudly on whose more of a cougar(Mount Pleasant stuff), the place was just so chill! 2) Service – Star of the show: the bartender. Lately I have been fortunate enough to have some seriously awesome bartenders! I sat at the bar, and was greeted by Kevin. Offered me some water, a menu etc etc… Really nice guy, personable, but had much more to offer than the menu. For my drink, he points me to the list of beers on the wall, as I discovered CPH is pretty well known for their beer selection. I tell him that frankly, I do not know a damn thing about beer, at which his inner beer nerd decides to have a little fun with my palette. Asks me if I were to buy beer, what would it be. I let him know, and Kevin proceeds to provide me with samples of 4 different beers and a cider! Out of the 4, I liked the Vander Ghinste, a sour beer, as well as the McKenzie hard cider and the Weihenstephan Hefe. I also discovered that stout is terrible. Food: Was in the mood for something simple and satisfying, so decided on the Fungi burger, on grilled chicken breast instead of beef, without a bun, with a side of truffle fries. Came out in a reasonable amount of time. Not sure what the phenomena over truffle fries is, but there wasn’t anything exceptional about them. In fact, they were hard, like they were fried too long, but weren’t burnt. Weird. The chicken breast was perfection. Juicy and flavorful, along with the mushrooms, caramelized onions, and gruyère… so good. Top shelf gin for $ 6 – that’s a happy hour price! Along with the sandwich and fries for $ 12.50, made for a $ 20 dinner which is pretty standard. The service is definitely what stood out. Kevin was personable and engaging, talking with all of the customers like they were all just friends. He extended his hand, introduced himself to me, we laughed about the NBA… just an all around enjoyable night. This just might become a regular spot for me!

Very good find on the way back from the Yorktown. The fish and chips were lightly breaded and quite tasty. Would definitely recommend this place for a simple lunch after a day of sight seeing.

This place is great! When we visited, we found that not too many places were open late, so Coleman Public House was a great find! As an appetizer we got the pimento cheese dip and the pita bread that it came with was so warm and fresh! I ordered a Caprese burger and my boyfriend ordered the steak frites. They were both amazing. As if our huge meals weren’t enough, we got a crème brûlée for dessert– A+

What an outstanding place for brunch!!! The service & food far exceeded my expectations. The spinach and crab dip appetizer was delish… you can actually taste the crab! And the fried green tomato balsamic appetizer was also very tasty. The icing on the cake was the fried green tomato eggs Benedict. The egg was poached to perfection and the hollandaise sauce was out of this world. I will definitely come back here when I come to visit Charleston again.

This place was excellent! We started off with calamari and the pimento cheese. Calamari was good with a slightly spicy sauce and the pimento cheese was very good, slightly more chunky then other places but it is a must get. For dinner I had the shrimp and grits is a bourbon sauce. So far best shrimp and grits on this trip! The sauce was amazing! Overall this is a great place to go for some great southern local food!!!

Well, the wife and I were trying to make it to Charleston for our 9:30pm reservation but we were held up by traffic and an accident on I-26. Sometimes things happen for a reason. The wife looks up on Unilocal for a place to eat in Mount Pleasant near our hotel. I knew of the Coleman public house prior but has never been. It also helped that the kitchen is open late, until midnight, which helped with our 10:15pm arrival time. We were greeted warmly and decided to sit at the bar and watch the ends of the NHL and NBA playoff games. Beers are ordered while our server makes recommendations on food items. The wife wanted the fish tacos and the a beet salad, while I was starved to the point of ordering some Mac and cheese and the mushroom burger to follow. The Mac and cheese was creamy cheesy goodness, I can see why it’s a popular item. The burger on the other hand was the star of my meal. Perfectly cooked and a moist generous patty with gruyère cheese and mushrooms on top. The side fries were pretty standard but good. The wife’s beer salad was her jam and from what I tasted, it’s like the chef had her in mind when they put this on the menu. Again the fish tacos were pretty standard but good all in all. We also got to chat with some locals at the bar and got some information about good local places for beer and things to check out in the Charleston area. The burger alone is worth some regular visits to the Coleman public house in my opinion.

Update as of May 24th. Dropping 2 stars for 1-lack of service and 2-slow to deliver food that was cold. It’s sad and disappointing. We had such a good experience on our Mother’s Day visit that we decided to come back to try other items from the brunch menu. We were seated right away, but that’s where the positive stops and the negative starts. Seated at a high top in the bar area it took forever for the server to approach us and take a drink order. We could see from our vantage point that the bar, which had 2 couples sitting at it, was getting stellar service from the single bartender. We placed our food and drink orders at the same time because it took so long for her to approach us, we had plenty of time to decide on what to eat. Once the order was placed, it was exactly 27 minutes from when we placed our order and when food arrived cold at our table. 2 tables that sat after us got their food before us. I ordered the shrimp and grits and Laura ordered the rustic scramble with a side of home fries. The shrimp and grits were meh, I’ve had better. The rustic scramble was exactly what it is, rustic. I could have done better at home. So the moral of the story is my friends, be careful of what you order here. For me, it’s really hit or miss and Coleman really missed it on this one. It’s going to be a while before we come back here.

So far, Coleman Public House has the best truffle fries I’ve tried in Charleston. They don’t skimp on the truffle oil, the parmesan sprinkled on top complements amazingly, and it always tastes fresh. The mini lamb burgers(sliders) are also pretty good, and the service seems consistent. I would recommend others to try this establishment!

The first time I came here everybody told me I needed to try the truffle, bacon, and gouda mac and cheese. I did, and it is the reason I keep coming back. There are other reasons, but it is the best. I usually just get the mac and cheese as a meal with a side of their truffle and garlic fries. I crave their food sometimes and I HAVE to go get it. I’m not a burger fan, but I did try their California burger and it was delicious. Of course, I got a side of truffle garlic fries with it. Every time I have gone the staff has been super friendly and the food comes out fast, even when we had a larger party. The seating is indoor with a few tables outdoors. The parking is around the whole building, and they share parking with the businesses around them. However, I’ve never had trouble finding a place to park before. Even when they are busy I get seated fairly quickly, and haven’t had to wait too long. I would suggest you come here anytime. I have been for lunch or dinner and have liked both of them.

When you walk into a place and all you hear is mmmm mmmm ooohohh mmmm, you know you are in the right place! Our server was amazing! Honest, quick, funny, and on the money! We ‘nick’named him Fertile Nick — he was giving us everything he had and keeping us so satisfied! Coffee full! Custom Irish coffee orders, on point beer flights! Now on the food. Our table was silenced from the creamy goodness of the Mac and Cheese with the pecan smoked bacon. Then the corn and crab fritters with fresh backfin were out of this world! On to The fungi burger and the barnyard burger, and the fried chicken biscuits! Truffle fries, Parmesan fries … The goodness did not stop. Consistently delicious from start to finish. Come here, eat here, ask to sit in Fertile Nicks section! Your food and service will be unforgettable.

Got what looked like a foot long slab of haddock with the fish and chips. Nailed every bit of it. Precious ordered the steak sandwich which made her a happy girl. A terrific place for lunch or casual dinner with very reasonable prices. Definitely on the recommended list if you find yourself on the Mount Pleasant side of the harbor.

It’s been a while since I’ve gone out for a burger but hot damn if I’m not glad I chose this place! I ordered the Barnyard burger with fries, to go. It’s about 12 bucks without a drink. Completely reasonable price. The burger is huge and packed with flavor. This particular burger had a huge dollop of goat cheese, oven roasted roma tomatoes, fresh spinach, and caramelized onions. Every bite I took, I was able to taste each delicious ingredient. I mean bravo CPH, you nailed it with this burger. Happy as a clam! I can’t wait to try all the other ones that they have. Oh… and the fries are great too!

I felt it was too early for barbecue, but wanted something heavier than a couple of eggs and bacon, so I trekked on down to Coleman Public House after seeing a picture of their Smoked Duck Spring Rolls. Alas, they no longer have those. *cries* Not to be deterred, I ordered corn and crab fritters to start, then followed up with shrimp and grits for my main. Those corn and crab fritters were good! Especially paired with the sauce, which was like a chipotle aioli. The shrimp and grits plate was beautifully presented and did not disappoint. I wish it had been a tad bit spicier, maybe with a couple of dashes of cayenne. It was not super salty, like some other dishes I’ve have here in Charleston. It has more of a pub-ish feel, but sitting away from the bar makes you feel like you’re just enjoying a fine brunch day!

We visited Coleman Public House this weekend and were really impressed. I’ve always heard positive things about CPH from the locals, and it’s definitely a local place but it’s really good. The restaurant wasn’t crowded and we were seated pretty quickly. For an app, we had the pimento cheese with pita bread and it was great. The pita bread was crispy and the pimento cheese was cold and rich– we ended up taking a lot of it home with us but it’s the perfect sharing size for 4 – 5 people. The apps list is extensive and you could easily make a meal of apps. I ordered the fish tacos, which is an app, as my entrée. You can pair it with a salad or fries for a full meal, but I didn’t since we had the pimento cheese. The fish inside the tacos is mahi and very crispy. The breading doesn’t get soggy in the taco, and they have lettuce and slaw and a delicious sauce. They’re not huge tacos so if you’re hungry, I definitely recommend getting something on the side. I liked them though and would recommend them. I’m not a beer drinker but they had tons on tap and the bar was the busier part of the restaurant with people watching college football. Also, the restaurant has a back room where a birthday party came in just as we were leaving, so that’s something to keep in mind if you have a large group.
