Great atmosphere. Off the beaten path, but great selection. Had the charcuterie board with cheese and very satisfying. A lot of beer and wine selections with a friendly atmosphere. Other alcoholic beverages available as well. Live music and a friendly staff.

Great place with great prices! The staff was so knowledgeable and helpful with picking out some wine and cheese. I’d recommend the James Island Sip ANYTIME! Will definitely be coming back.

I usually never post reviews on Unilocal but my extreme dissatisfaction with this place compelled me to post one. This place was a huge disappointment. My wife and I had a glass of wine each… Those we fine. No complaints there. We also ordered 2 meats and 3 cheeses. Those were pathetic. Overpriced. We sat near the entrance and saw them putting the board together. All of the meats and cheeses are from Costco. You can’t be a good wine bar and try to pass those times off as legit. You also have to order and pay for simple side items like the bread, honey, mustard etc. these come standard at any self-respecting wine bar serving a charcuterie board. For the price you pay for those items also they don’t give you a whole lot. We ended up paying $ 45 on just the meat and cheese board. Rip off. I would recommend Ardoa or The Wine Bar on Long Point. Both put this place to shame. Lastly the service was really really poor. It took 25 minutes for the aforementioned food to come out. As I mentioned we sat right by the entrance where they prepare the food. The worker responsible for putting our plate together left to do other tasks 3 times while compiling our simple plate. Who knows if she washed her hands in the process. The staff was more interested in discussing their wild night out the night before and how they rang up a tab at Triangle than doing their simple jobs. They might be okay for breakfast or other things but I’ll never know cause I won’t be back and will spread the word to our network of friends. As I mentioned I never post reviews and am generally understanding because I used to serve and bartend. SIP was very disappointing because my wife and I thought we would love. It ended up leaving a really bad taste in our mouth and more committed to returning to places like Ardoa, Opal, and The Wine Bar. Try at your own risk.

We visited the new location on James island. The atmosphere is inviting, rustic wood walls and have a few tv’s and lots of seating. My boyfriend was a big fan of the peanuts! The beer selection is nice, offers nice beers as well as $ 3 domestics. Food not so good:(Seems like everything was prepackaged. Salsa, guacamole, and queso with chips out of a bag for $ 12 was silly. Got the special meat and cheese board, it was ok… Meats seemed to be of cheap quality. I could go to whole foods and get better meats and cheeses. The grapes where brown and mushy and we got like 5 crackers for the whole board. Pickles where right out of the jar. Is anything made in house??? The servers seem pretty uninformed. Couldn’t describe menu items and we had to continue to ask for our wine glasses, water, etc. The panini $ 11 was small and flavorless served with yet again chips out of the bag. I would like more places to survive on James island but I would think you will need to change some things before I would come back.

I came here to celebrate a friends birthday. It was my first time at SIP. Hearing about the specials made the place seem super awesome, but after seeing the specials and then the way the waitress treated our table, I am not sure I will be going back. The meat/cheese plate and bottle of wine deal sounds awesome, but the amount of meat and cheese you get is enough for mayyyyyybe 2 people. The grapes on it were very smooshy and some were rotten. The pickles were good, but they were from a jar, so hard to mess that up! The thing that made me the most angry and why I probably won’t go back was our waitress. She was so rude to us from the very beginning. Now, I don’t mind if a fun loving waitress comes to your table and sits down if there are extra seats – that can sometimes make the experience more personable and fun. But this waitress never smiled, never greeted us, and was rude from the beginning all while sitting at our table acting like we were an inconvenience for her. When I tried to ask a question to clarify the special, she acted like I was super dumb and didn’t explain it. The owner(maybe manager?) heard me talking to my husband about the special and heard me say I was still confused and he finally came over to explain it. He seems like a decent guy, but should really check out the people he is hiring better. Another example of how rude she was: she came back to take more orders, sat down again(no smile, no greeting, nothing). My friend wanted to order a round of the $ 2 mimosas for everyone to toast to the birthday girl. My friend said«I want to get a round of mimosas for everyone. You can put it on my tab»(and then told her name to the waitress. My friend then said«I would like the tropical one.»(because they have 3 different flavors of mimosas on the menu). Another friend, who does not drink, heard the order being placed, and clarified that she just wanted pineapple juice. The waitress acted all bothered by this small change. Then she stood up to walk away. My friend said«ma’am, are you going to find out what type of mimosa everyone would like?»(not in a mean way at all!) and the waitress grunted back«you said mimosa so I just assumed orange juice.» Reading this, it does not necessarily sound like it had to be rude, but I wish you could have heard her voice tone. I was really appalled at the way she handled that. I have been a waitress. I know it is hard work, but you are in customer service, so you have to be kind to those you are serving, especially when they are simply ordering a beverage! We left shortly after that because of the service. I don’t want to waste my Saturday night being treated like a nuisance.

We won’t be going back. A shame, because the Pinot Noir cherry chocolate milkshake was really good. We learned this a full two minutes before it was delivered, as our bartender stood facing us, DRINKINGFROMTHECUPUSEDTOMAKEOURMILKSHAKE and telling us – multiple times – just how great it was. Without irony, tact, or a *$@# clue! Seriously, what kind of jackass does that? Our experience was further soured by the very middling glass of wine I was served for $ 10. A quick online search revealed the bottle retails for $ 10 – 15. I understand how mark ups work, and I realize that it takes into account all of the hidden costs associated with serving a glass – which I am totally fine with. But since this place refers to itself as a wine bar, it makes me question what they actually know about wine. It was a generous pour but, as it tasted like the kind of wine your Bud Light-drinking, bachelor friend would pick up from the grocery store on the way to his first wine party, I didn’t bother to finish it. Aside from the unforgivable behavior of our bartender – who just generally seemed like he really didn’t want to be there, and certainly didn’t care about us – there was an absolute lack of attention from any other staff person. There were six people working, constantly jostling for space behind the cramped bar in front of us, but they were all too busy to acknowledge us, except to finally say goodbye and thank you when we left which, by that point, was far too little, too late. I hate to nitpick; it is obvious that real effort was put into trying to make this place appealing to all. But nothing clicked for me. I appreciated being able to catch the football game, but having the TVs clustered so close together in such a small space was overwhelming. The music – though a decent selection – was a notch too high. The meat and cheese selection was basic, and the prices were not attractive. At first glance, the idea of a place that has wine, and beer, and coffee, and milkshakes, and paninis, and cheese, and charcuterie seems like a great idea. But there is just too much going on in this place without coherence. Our bartender was right, though. That milkshake was good.

Sipping to Success in just 4 months! This place is quaint but not quiet unless before 5pm, or what most would know as happy hour. Great service with a genuine smile for this Mt. Pleasant bar. When I say bar, I mean coffee, tea, microbrews and fine wines. The food is simple but reminds me of Italy with a few hot sandwiches and some unique meat and cheese trays… nicely done!

Let me start off by saying I really, REALLY wanted to like this place. My roommates and I had all seen multiple advertisements for it on Facebook, and were excited to try a new wine and cheese place. We went with intentions of getting the $ 30 deal — a bottle of wine and a meat and cheese plate. The waitress convinced us(after waiting over 30 minutes to have our order taken) that a flight of wine was the better way to go. «You’ll get four glasses of all different wines!» Then she told us the wines were fixed, and we weren’t able to choose which wines we wanted. I opted to continue on with the flight while both of my roommates went for the bottomless mimosas($ 12). Fast forward 20 minutes to when we actually got our drinks. Four glasses of wine my ass. I got four VERY small samples of wine in what was barely more than a shot glass. The mimosas came in carafes with wine glasses, so I took a glass and poured one of my sample into it to see how it measured up to a «glass.» I would describe it as a quarter of a glass at best. Both of the mimosa glasses had lipstick residue from previous users. One of my roommates pointed it out to the waitress and asked for a new glass. Her new glass ALSO had lipstick residue. After waiting another ten to fifteen minutes for our food to come out, I was extremely disappointed. I had ordered a cheese plate with Asiago, goat cheese, garlic onion jam, and baguette. The portions were tiny, and not good quality. The bread crumbled when you touched it, and therefore was far from being able to hold the weight of the cheese. Since the plate totaled $ 17, I expected much more. The reasons I chose to rate a two rather than a one are as follows: The waitress was not incompetent. She was the only server for the entire venue, inside and out. She was running around like a chicken with her head cut off while here others stood behind the bar only slightly busy. The small swallow of each wine I did taste was good, and the atmosphere was on point. I do not suggest doing a wine tasting here, but the bottomless mimosas are not a bad deal. Both of my roommates ordered food outside the meat and cheese plate variety, and I thought it was fairly priced and decent. Go for the mimosas and sandwiches, but skip the wine flights and meat and cheese plates.

I really, really loved quite a few things about this new restaurant and bar in Mt P. Tucked along the food haven that is Coleman Blvd, SIP has situated itself towards the front of a little strip mall. Upon turning off Coleman, you’re immediately struck by the festive lighting and fantastic outdoor seating– the place looks fun and very welcoming. Immediately, I was pumped to go in! Known as both a breakfast and dinner joint, as well as a bar, my review is focused only on SIP as a bar and dinner restaurant. Open for just 7 weeks, and SIP seemed to have their act together. Extreme positives include: the beautiful wood paneling at the bar, the outdoor seating, the awesome awesome 80s music(INXS music station apparently: omg, it just kept me happy for hours!), the extremely diverse and mostly local /southern craft beer on tap, the wine on tap, and the ridiculously diverse and extensive beer bottle selection– also LOVED the fact that you could just pull a six pack off the shelf! Also really a fan of their TV setup for future game watching(they have NFL Sunday package!) and their meat/cheese plates are outstanding! Bartenders are also really, really friendly and nice! Negatives: wow pricey. Drink prices are OK $ 6/$ 7 beer, but not great. But the food prices were insane. Out of the bag(not homemade) Chip with bottled salsa, meh guac and queso was $ 12! And although the meat and cheese plate was very very good and I loved the concept of building my own cheese plate, it was $ 30+ dollars for the following: 2 cheeses, 2 meats, crackers(they charge for crackers– come on!!!) olives and honey. Frankly, the honey and crackers should be gratis! I am from NYC and a plate like that would have cost $ 17 – 20NOT $ 32!!! That’s crazy! For SIP to stay alive, they really really need to rethink their food pricing or introduce way more specials and incentives to make themselves a «go to» in a very competitive area for bars and restaurants. I had a lot of fun there, but I’m hesitant to go back anytime soon because of it.

After seeing so many posts on FB about this new beer and wine bar in Mt P I was excited to visit this place. It was well staffed on a Tuesday evening and every one offered kind service, but I have to admit my disappointment… I am a sucker for charcuterie, however, this is an a la carte menu with only 5 meat(pork, ham, sausage) options for $ 5.50−6.50 per choice. $ 5 – 7.50ea for a better selection of cheeses, and choose from water crackers, fruits and jams, honey, olives, pickled veggies, whole grain mustard etc, again each for an additional charges. Maybe I would have better appreciated my $ 30 meat and cheese platter had I not watched the bar keep pull out a wedge of manchego with a Costco label, which retails for about twice what they charged us for a few slices. There is something to be said for a little mystery, and though this small bar doesn’t have a kitchen, it may be worth setting up a small area at the back of the restaurant behind a privacy screen for food prep. It was less impressive having watched the simple ingredients be assembled from jars purchased from the bulk grocery store. They advertised wine on tap, but only one Spanish white was served on tap this Tuesday night. They also boast over 150 beer options; unfortunately they were awaiting a beer delivery to replenish their tap selections – half of the taps were tapped out. The selection of wines was much more limited than one would expect from a self-proclaimed wine bar. Their posts on FB advertise great Happy Hour specials but I’m not sure even those deals could entice me to go back. Not a sure if this one will last in a city where food quality and variety is plentiful.
