Apna Desh – A Z Pantry

Nice inventory but looks very disorganized and unclean.

Small little Indian store in the area. You pretty much get what you need in terms of packed food. I have never bought vegetables from here, so I would not comment on that. You also get a variety of freshly made gujarati snacks like khaman, thepla and also samosas, etc.

I was in the Mt Prospect area after a class and wanted to pick up some items to replenish my spices. A Unilocal search turned up several Indian Groceries in the area and this was the first I tried. This shop has a fantastic selection of Indian spices, nuts, flours, snacks, mixes and frozen items. VERY helpful and friendly shopkeepers who will explain ingredients for those who are new to Indian cooking. They carry the full range of many brands, including MTR and Swad. The prices are very reasonable! I got a giant bag of raw almonds for $ 14.99 — more nuts for cheaper than the Costco price. They have a huge frozen foods selection, so make sure to look through all of the cases!
I will definitely visit this store every time I’m in the area!
