Hidden little neighborhood gem! Not located in the grandest of plazas, but the restaurant is cozy. The prices are reasonable, the portions are generous, and the sashimi is buttery fresh. And they use REAL crab meat in their rolls(not that cheap imitation crab!) And the owner is the sweetest little lady :3 Things I’ve tried: (1) Island Roll — Everything about this roll is 10/10, especially the slither of lemon on top and real crabmeat(without mayo). (2) Sashimi salad — BESTBANGFORYOURBUCK right here. For just $ 11.95, you get so so so much sashimi. It’s a mix of salmon, tuna, albacore, etc. The ginger-sesame dressing(equal parts tangy-sweet) is pretty good, and the small scoop of seaweed salad is a nice touch as well. (3) Chirashi bowl — if you prefer rice(instead of salad) with your fish, then this is the way to go. The price, $ 18 during dinner, is pretty standard with other sushi places. Comes in a nice, large bowl. (4) Joy Scallop Roll — there is so much going on here. Think Lion King Roll, but with baked scallops instead! It was pretty delicious, but the«Joy sauce» was a bit too much and overall, a very overwhelming roll. Would not order again. (4) Bento boxes — great deal for lunch at $ 11 but nothing really special. Not worth $ 15 Probably would not recommend getting bentos here, simply because there are so many other better choices.

We’ve been back a few times since my initial review, which reminds me not to write something until a few visits. The soup has been piping hot, and we ordered some different items which have been very flavorful. Vegetable Roll with mushroom avocado and cucumber, Crunch Roll with crab meat, shrimp, crunchy tempura bits, cucumber and spicy unagi sauce, and Bay Bridge, California roll topped with avocado, were all delicious. We also had the Futomaki which tasted on the sweet side. The food and service are consistently good.

I ordered for pick up but it still took almost an hour. She double checked my order and said there was no any problem but when I got home. I found they didn’t give me my takoyaki which I actually ordered. So my question is what did they do when they double check the order? It made me felt so bad. Long time waiting but still didn’t get all of my food!

The place is small but bright. The Sushi is reasonably priced, and tasty. The service is good.

If I can give this place 10 stars out of 5 full stars, I would. I’ve been going here for almost two years now and never once did I have a bad experience in the Mountain View location. I understand that there’s another Joy Sushi in San Mateo, however, I prefer this location the most. My usual orders are either the Joy King Roll, the Chicken Udon, or both! lol. I love how their food is made to order so when it arrives at your table, you can really taste the freshness of the food. The Joy King Roll can be best compared to the Lion King Roll at Old Town, however, there’s a slight twist to the Joy King Roll as they include their own unique«special sauce». Whatever that sauce is, it’s bomb-diggity and really enhances the various flavors encompassed within the roll. You know your sushi is fresh and perfectly crafted when you barely need to dip it in soy sauce to mask the flavor! Yes, it’s that serious, here at Joy. The Mountain View location is a much smaller venue than that of the venue in San Mateo, meaning it can become quite congested during peak hour. However, don’t fret, the service is relatively quick and guaranteed you’ll be able to get seated, eat, and leave within an hour, depending how fast you eat. The customer service and quality food is fairly consistent and I’ve always had a pleasant experience when dining during lunch time. The Sushi Chefs are so friendly and are quick when it comes to preparing sushi rolls. Whenever I don’t have time to dine-in, I usually order online via Unilocal, which enables Eat 24 to place your order. All you need is to have your card on file, then you’ll be able to place your order within minutes from the Unilocal site! I usually try and order about 15 – 20 minutes before pick-up time to allow cooking time and any other hassles that they may have, especially during peak lunch hour(11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.) Upon arrival, I just tell them my name, that I ordered via Eat 24 and they are able to pull up my order within seconds. Overall, I highly recommend this place, whether you choose to dine-in by yourself or with a group of friends/colleagues, they accommodate everyone. Kampai! + Online ordering available via DoorDash, Eat 24, and GrubHub. + Menu available: + Limited Groupon deal available:

Great service and good quality sushi(for the price). The restaurant is located in the same plaza as Dollar Tree. It doesn’t look like much from the outside, but the servers are really nice and the portions are a good size. My boyfriend and I came in for dinner on a weeknight — we ordered a hot sake, lobster roll and sake lover’s plate(hand roll, salmon maki roll, 8 sashimi slices, 2 nigiri). Salmon slices were huge and not too fatty either. Also, since it was our first time, they gave us free edamame and the chef made us a free shrimp tempura deluxe roll — very nice! We can’t wait to go back!

The sushi itself is decent. When I don’t want to pay $ 20 – 30 at Sushi Tomi, I come here and get something decent for $ 10. Stick to the non-fried rolls. I often do order ahead from here and either pick it up or have it delivered, but maybe next time I’ll just call in, because it’s likely cheaper. The kicker for me in my most recent order was $ 6.85 for chicken karrage which only came with 7 pieces. Two bigger and 5 small(like the size of a nickel or quarter). Not to mention the $ 6 delivery fee from order ahead. Painful!!! They’re definitely doing me a favor, but I wish they’d charged me two bucks instead of $ 7.(Thinking about the fried chicken at Verde Café for less than $ 4 and 4x the chicken.)

The one bad thing about Joy is it’s not open on Sunday, which has led me to order sushi from different places. Our Sunday experiences have only reinforced how good Joy really is compared to everybody else — the flavors, the portion size, the prices. It’s truly the best in Mountain View.

Decent Japanese restaurant and it was busy on a Tuesday lunch. Many people ordered chirashi. Rolls were good; slightly on the more expensive side. The seating area is tight. The bathroom is behind the kitchen area. This is the same Joy Sushi as the one in San Mateo

I am alergic to sea food but went to this restaurant today(Monday @ 7 pm) to accompany my date. He enjoyed his sushi plate while I ordered a delicious edamame dumpling, potato croquet and edamame bowl. Our waitress was very loving, kind and efficient and the food displays was gorgeous. Thank you chef!

Tiny restaurant in a strip mall with excellent food and excellent service! They even present food in interesting ways and even had random Christmas dishes in December. We tried a few rolls, all of which were fresh and delicious, we also had the mixed tempura appetizer. Got some delicious freebies as well! and your meal comes with Miso soup

I had used a groupon to try out this place. Sometimes, I would go order take out for lunch, but this time my boyfriend and I had gotten dinner. We ordered three specialty rolls and it tasted great! My boyfriend didn’t like the rolls with the shrimp tempura inside because the tempura tasted soggy to him. Since I live near the area, I’d probably go back because they have cheap three item combo for about $ 15, so that includes beef teriyaki, salmon teriyaki and with the spicy tuna roll they would charge me $ 1 more to sub out the Cali roll. And that’s how I roll folks, I hope you enjoy the food as I did, minus the tempura experience my boyfriend had endured, which wasn’t so bad in my opinion. Btw, this establishment is small, but whatever ya know? It is what it is. Oh yeah, soup and salad comes with what we ordered, it’s on the house which is great!

This is a great, affordable sushi spot in this area. A lot of similarly priced restaurants will skimp on the fish or the sizes of the rolls, but this is not the case for Joy Sushi. The quality of the fish is good, and I feel like I get my money’s worth. The temaki(hand rolls) are quite large, and they contain a sizable amount of fish. At OTHER restaurants in this area at a similar price point, the temaki are painfully small and they stuff them full of nearly bad fish that is drowning in sesame oil to disguise the almost rotten flavor – HOWEVER, this is not the case at Joy Sushi. The fish is always fresh and the serving sizes are GENEROUS! I love it. I highly recommend this restaurant! I can’t really comment on service because I usually order my food to-go through Unilocal’s Eat24 app.

Eh. My friend brought me here because her mom gave her a groupon for this place. Service was attentive and up to par, but the food wasn’t… However, it is important to note that i am a sushi snob! My friend, who isn’t very experienced with sushi, ordered 2 rolls that are more on the Americanized side– one of them had spicy tuna inside with eel on top and the other with cooked salmon on the outside and shrimp tempura in the inside. I ordered the cherry blossom and the 8 piece sashimi with tuna and salmon(you pick 2 kinda of fish out of the options they give you, which includes hamachi and some others). The slices of salmon were like half slices; so not cool. They were like long skinny rectangles. On a brighter note, the sashimi were nice and chilly and I liked their presentation. They place the slices on slices radishes that are on top of a bed of ice. The fish seemed pretty fresh and did not appear to be colored, like some other sushi places. However, they were not the freshest fish I’ve ever tasted. Btw, they give you complimentary miso soup and salad. Most other places only give you them if you order a combination dinner or lunch. Overall, this place is pretty average. It can definitely not be compared to places like Sushi Tomi, Tanto, and Dan, but it’s about the same as places like Yoshida and Gombei. It’s one of those places that can satisfy diners that are not picky about sushi, or primarily eat non-traditional sushi items.

Pretty good food, friendly and cheap for a korean owned sushi place! Place is small so it’s probably best to order takeout for a large group maybe? Looked like it was family owned the way Harry talked to our waitress. We used a groupon deal and it was worth it for how much food we got. Most of the special sushi were $ 11.95ish too. Korean owned sushi places would be $ 3 more! Nabeyaki udon: yum Hamachi maki roll: these rolls are bigger than the usual maki size. Only $ 5 too! Spider roll: also $ 5!!! 4 big pieces and delicious. Island roll: $ 11.95 I think. Little bit of a lemon taste. This one was ok. I didn’t like the dressing they put on the salad since it tasted weird. Usually I’m very picky with korean owned sushi places, but this place is good. Cheap and friendly, but small. It’s ok, I like small as long as it’s not cramped. There’s no Koreans eating here too so… I will assume it’s more for foreigners. Well… I guess this place is good then. Only because it’s cheap and decent.

Rolls do not look anything like the photos. Service is mediocre. Portions for bento box are tiny(see photos) Would not come back for the price, quality, and service. Rather go gombei for their bento choices.

A great convenient place for sushi! The staff are super friendly. I prefer fried sushi since it fills me up. The Shrimp Tempura Roll and the Dynamite Roll were perfect for me. The ingredients were fresh and the crispiness of the tempura shrimp. Our order took a while to come out, but the staff was super considerate and gave us a complimentary roll(so thoughtful)! Yes for good sushi, yes for decent priced food, and yes for awesome staff.

Right next door to my nail shop and finally gave it a try. I always see this place packed so I ordered a quick roll before getting my nails done. Joy King Roll. YUM!!!. came out hot and fresh and the salmon yum yum with those special sauces. Definitely coming back again to try other items. The place is a bit small inside so I would consider calling ahead or order take out like the rest of the locals around.

It was my coworkers and I’s first time at Joy Sushi. We arrived around 11:45am and it wasn’t as busy. More customers started rolling in a little after 12pm. The place is quite small, so we were lucky to get a table just moments before it got crowded. Once you grab a hold of the menu and scan through it, you’ll notice that it is pretty extensive. Unless you already know what you want, it will take a few minutes to decide what to get. I ordered the baked lobster roll and it comes with miso soup and a salad! I have never been to a sushi restaurant where a miso soup and salad comes with your specialty sushi roll. Usually it comes with a bento box or lunch special. The baked lobster roll tasted great(also pictured is the baked salmon roll my coworker ordered). Earlier, I was thinking of ordering 2 rolls in case I wasn’t full, but I’m glad that I only ordered 1 roll. This lunch combination was fulfilling(almost put me in a food coma). Next time, I might just have to order 2 rolls, so I can try other ones. Additionally, I also have to mention the service. The people working here had positive energy and were very polite. They waited on us in a timely manner and would occasionally check to see how we’re doing and if things were okay. If I had to rate the place on service alone, I’d give the service here 4 stars.
