I would give 2.5÷5 if it was permitted… I feel bad writing this, but when my friend and I ate their for lunch, we were the only customers, and even so, the staff omitted the part that I wanted to remove bell peppers in my green curry. Considering we were the only patrons there that day, I was disappointed that he couldn’t even pay attention to this detail that I had emphasized… The staff was really friendly, though. The food itself was ok — not the best I’ve had, but not the worst I’ve had. We thought it was because we were there early. but when we came out, the restaurant down the street had a crowd waiting in line outside the restaurant. I hope that they would redecorate the place with a unified theme, and re-open /start afresh.

Really disappointing. The chicken larb was incredibly dry and I asked for medium spicy, it had no spiciness at all. My dish came out 15 minutes before my friend’s curry, so we sat around and waited for his food to come so we could both eat. Neither of us took our leftovers home. The staff didn’t offer drink refills or check on anything. It’s quite forgettable.

I went here for lunch a couple of weeks before I went to Boston. I ordered the eggplant dish with chicken. I asked for it with medium spiciness. I don’t remember how the dish tasted, so it was forgettable. The chicken was dry, and there wasn’t any heat in the dish. The appetizer of the roti with the curry sauce was pretty good.

This place is fine overall but I wasn’t left feeling inspired. Much has been said about the poor service but I have to say that I didn’t see anything of it. There were only 4 other tables occupied when I came for lunch on a weekday and the service was prompt and not unfriendly. I chose an eggplant basil dish and got it with tofu. I asked for it spicy and the waiter questioned me on that but I assured him I really did want it spicy. Turns out it had zero spiciness. I sometimes get that and wonder if they take one look at me with my blond hair and blue eyes and think«that white girl could possibly handle ‘spicy’!». Seriously people, bring it on! The dish itself was fine but not great. Pretty one-dimensional in flavor but not bad and at least served hot. I came because it was convenient but I think I probably won’t be back.

Wow. I don’t know what happened to your deliciousness, it’s not like I haven’t dined here in over a year. The workers look the same but the food/experience was just not right! The sweetie and I came in during lunch and were starving. We started off by ordering the coconut hot and sour soup with shrimp since they didn’t have combination seafood, volcano duck, red curry beef and white rice. The server/manager? told us they didn’t have duck available so then we opted for pad see ewe. We conversed about how Amarin was so pack at all hours of the day/night versus here. We wanted instant gratification and thought King of Krung Siam could deliver on that but it didn’t. When our food came out it arrived via lunch plate style and not a la carte like we wanted. The sweetie and I were starving and didn’t wanna complain so we just bit our lip and dived into our food, sharing at times because the reason we order a la carte is to eat family style. Plus side about it was that we got a fried spring roll each, downside obviously is everything else. The red curry just wasn’t spicy or OMG flavorful. The pad see ewe was really oily and really really really mushy chewy. Our total came out to about $ 35 the same it would have come out a la carte, except we would’ve been happy. I really like the traditional style minimalist this place has to offer but if I’m in MV I’m going for the more modern style Amarin now and forever.

If you’re in a hurry, this place is not for you. I really wish there was a .5 star review option. *sigh* Food’s good. Everything out at the same time but it was a bit on the slow side. There were 2 other tables occupied when I came here and it was still rather slow. The other thing that made them lose points was the fact that it took WAY too long for me to get my check. I had to ask for it twice. Way too long = 15 –25 minutes of waiting. I might give them a try in the future if I’m asked to go here again

I’ve been to this restaurant a few times before, but I never had the experience I had last night, when we took a friend out to dinner for his birthday. Needless to say, we feel we owe him ANOTHER birthday dinner, it was so awful! The place was empty — we got there around 8:30, but they are open until 10 so there was plenty of time for dinner. Either our waiter stopped taking his antidepressants recently, there was a death in the family or he just didn’t like us, but he was rude and even snapped at my friend when she tried to hand him an empty soup bowl. Maybe he’s trying to be the new Mountain View version of Edsel Fong???(if you don’t know who he is often called«the world’s rudest, worst, most insulting waiter»). The food was bland and dry — and I’m not really sure that was lamb in the curry… just seemed like lumpy, chewy, brown stuff. The vegetarian Pad Thai was blasé and missing any distinctive flavor. The whole time our waiter was scowling and obviously upset about working there… one of my friends said he’s never very friendly but this was ridiculous. The only time he seemed at all friendly was when he delivered the«complimentary birthday dessert». They even turned someone away at 9:45, saying they had to order it to go! We were finishing up and they came and took the tip(we really didn’t even NEED to leave one!) before we were done. Rude, bad service, blah food. Too bad. It is a very pretty place! No wonder it was empty!

If you haven’t noticed, I love Thai food! So when it comes to Thai placed I am picky haha. So here we go… The place is like a semi step into a Thai palace. The ceiling has these moldings(I guess that’s what it is called) and the furnishings with these neat framed mirrors is an elegant touch. The waiters here are very attentive, which I love. I worked retail so I know what is good service consisting I slave away to be good at customer service. The menu is very large. They have lots of curries, salads, meats, veggie plates, and appetizers. When I order I alway get red seafood curry… their curry is probably the best for me. I am not too much of a fan of anything else besides that and the Tom yum soup… the food is not too great… it was either too salty or overpowering in some way that made me not too happy. The pricing is of course the usual Thai place, A little bit pricey. Anyways in my opinion I don’t really like this place. I have had better Thai on Castro. That street has everything, so venture around before settling on this place. I’m sorry, but this was a miss for me when I ventured from my usual Thai place. Well, I need to try all the Thai places on Castros and then augment my reviews to choose which one I would most definitely recommend… just know it isn’t this place.

Rude. That’s the first thing that comes to mind. I went here tonight with a friend, and we were seated without much of a word. Nobody who worked here said much of a word to us, and gave us our check without asking if we wanted anything else(I was kinda feeling like sticky rice with mango, but NEVERMIND!!!). The food was just okay. High prices considering the quality, and bad service.

Wow, am I going to a different place than these other recent reviewers? My time here was nothing near as bad as these people claim to be. First off, I found the service on a Friday evening to be pretty darn good, compared to other Thai restaurants in the area: my friend and I were seated immediately, water was served, and the waiter took our orders promptly. My friend and I shared the fried shrimp wrapped in egg roll skin(it’s called lady… something, you’ll know what I mean when you see it on the menu), pad see ew, and catfish in spicy sauce(okay, this might not be the name of the dish, but you’ll definitely see it on the menu). The fried shrimp was good, I never really thought of wrapping shrimp in egg roll skin and vegetables and serving them as finger foods — it was quite a pleasing appetizer. The pad see ew and the fish were so flavourful! I really enjoyed the fish because the sauce had an amazing kick to it that complemented the fish meat very well. I was also confused with the shape of the see ew(it is more square than long), but, hey, it was also good. I also love that they serve a good amount of vegetables and meats with the noodles so it does not feel as though I’m getting the short end of something. As for price range, each appetizer ranges from $ 6 – 10, and an entrée is at least $ 10. It was such a better experience than the one I had at ThaiPhoon down the street.

hehe, i first came here with my friend because he was raving about how wonderfully delicious the Tom Yum soup is, and that he insisted that i give it a try. i thought«why not,» and we ended up here for lunch one day. usually, when i think of Thai food, i automatically think about Pad Thai, so that’s what i ordered for the first time i was there. the Pad Thai is alright, and not too extraordinarily spectacular, but pretty good if you are craving Pad Thai!(: the soup though is another story. the soup totally lives up to the way my friend raves about it. the what seems to be the owner is really friendly, but one of his waiters remind me of Robert from Everyone Loves Raymond, and that guy rarely smiles, lol. he’s cool though, but he’s rather forgetful when it gets busy. this place is one of our most visited restaurants. we usually get the same thing everytime: Pad Thai and the Tom Yum soup. however one time, we switched it up and got something different. I got the crab fried rice and my date got the yellow curry. the crab fried rice is the fricken bomb, its soooo delicious that i crave it sometimes. the yellow curry lives up to expectations. its like what you would get in most Thai restaurants. this place will be getting so much more visits from us. tehehe. we even know what we are going to order the next time we come(:

No. No, no, no. The place is empty during the summer at peak lunch hour for a reason. My cousin and I had a massive craving for Thai food so we drove all the way out to Mountain View, only to find ThaiPhoon inexplicably closed. WHYGODWHY?! We decided to try Siam instead. From the instant I spotted the curry/soup/spittle stain on the white tablecloth, I had it in for this place. It was a stain that screamed uncleanliness and inattention to detail. This was only proven when we were given plates and bowls that were clearly chipped and dirty. The food was quite mediocre. The beef in our pad thai was on the rubbery side, and the panang was not very flavorful. It’s too bad, because our server was beyond polite and gracious, but that’s not enough to get me to come back. Ever.

One thing about«King of Krung Siam»(ahem…KoKS) that you can count on — there’s always a lot of open tables, no matter how busy the Castro St. lunch scene may be. This fact by itself was enough to scare me away the first 792 times(give or take) that I walked by. But curiosity eventually won the day. After finally stepping inside, I noted there was a concert video of some Thai pop star blaring on the widescreen TV — He wore a head bandana(think«Karate Kid») and his costume changes seemed to consist of switching one oversized shirt for another. The concert was over-theatrical, campy, and musically grating. My main thought was«whoa…annoying» and then I did my best to ignore it, despite the high volume.(It’s a shame, because the décor here is pretty nice.) You can imagine my surprise when I made a second visit weeks later, and they had the same f%^&*g video on. Uh…‘scuse me, but is there some large segment of the population calling out for this crap, or do the owners just really like this«artist»? [End Rant] As for the food, lunch specials are just under $ 9 — about what you’d expect for the primo location. The food itself varied from«Meh» to «OK». The soup chef should be fired: – 1st visit: Soup was strange, with an odd«fermented» smell(I didn’t finish it). I ordered my usual test dish — green curry chicken, which had decent flavor and a reasonable amount of eggplant; Sauce was a little thin though, and portion was really small for the price, so it was a bit of a ripoff; 2.5 stars. – 2nd visit: More bad soup — This time it tasted like it came from a can, with extra salt for good measure; Yeck… two bites and I was done; My Pad See Ew noodles were decent though; Quantity was large, it had lots of fresh broccoli, and the spice level was just right; 3.5 stars, rounded down to 3 for the soup fiasco. Though I can’t rate it very highly, there is actually a chance I will be back to KoKS.(yes — a bad joke somewhere in that statement). Namely, it makes a good bailout option in case other Castro restaurants are too crowded. Yep, when I strike out with all the hot and popular restaurants(due to crowds) and in desperate need of a meal, this place could be my Thai-food«friend with benefits.»(minimal ones). I’ll just make sure to sit as far from the TV as possible and skip the soup.

Came here last Friday around noon and the restaurant was pretty empty. My friend randomly was like“I want Thai!” Me being a fat cow… of course I didn’t oppose :) The atmosphere is nicely kept w/lots of traditional Thai art and statues. They were also playing this crazy Thai performance on TV that looked like their version of the pretty boy Justin Timberlake! Hahahaha. It was amusing I must say. Anyway, here’s what we ordered: –a glass of their house wine –a Thai iced tea –pumpkin prawns in curry sauce –tom ka(tom yum soup) –basil eggplant w/chicken — steamed rice Everything was pretty mediocre. Except I must point out that the Pumpkin prawns in curry sauce was soo good! I’ve never had pumpkin anything when I eat Thai food! I thought the dish was nicely –made and it was pretty spicy. On a negative note, the Thai iced tea was very dissatisfying. Considering King of Krung Siam is a «Thai» restaurant… they can’t make a tasty iced tea if you smacked them with it! That was a big disappointment. Heres the catch… everything was soo expensive! All together over $ 50 for a unsatisfying meal! I highly doubt that I’ll be coming back even though I thought the Pumpkin prawns was pretty good. I’ve experienced the best Thai food and I just can’t stoop this low.

We walked in with low expectations as while both Shabuway and Amarin were packed with people, this place had LOTS of empty seats during the prime lunch hours. FOOD: Turns out the food was quite alright. Three of us had different types of Thai curry(red and panang with chicken, shrimp, pork), and as part of the lunch speical, each came with a bowl of soup and a tiny egg roll. The soup was flavorful, a lot better than I’d expected, but the egg roll was overly fried. My panang curry with chicken was tasty, and I wished they had given me more, at least enough to match the large amount of rice that accompanied it. SERVICE&AMBIANCE: The place is more elegant than its next door neighbor, Amarin, but not as warm. The service was okay and thoughtful enough to put us at the very corner of the restaurant so a stroller could fit comfortably. SUM: Not sure where this place ranks among the several Thai restaurants in downtown Mountain View… but it’s a good option to have. We’ll give it a try again, this time to taste a lot more dishes.

I came to this place excited to have some tasty Thai food with friends and left disappointed. At least the sub par food made an ok conversation topic? I was craving fish and excited that they had a «garden fish» dish or something like that(I forget what exactly it was called). It arrived and the fish had been fried to a cardboard-like crisp. I could barely finish it. It was literally like gnawing on a box with some spicy sauce on it. This is another place with intrusive service, in my opinion. My friends and I were nibbling on an appetizer while chatting and waiting for our main dishes and the server literally rushed us to finish it. It was very irritating. The redeeming parts of this restaurant are their large selection and the fresh veggies… though that doesn’t really make up for everything else in my book. I was also(admittedly somewhat irrationally) paranoid that one of the large paintings on the wall was going to fall on my head. Go elsewhere, there’s better.

With all the Thai places around, this place is only so-so. We ordered the todd-mun fish cakes as an appetizer, and while I like the sauce a lot, the fish cakes are not as flavourful as I would have liked them to be. The main entries are good though — my boyfriend totally loves the beef massamun(sp.), and I have to agree that it’s one of the best we’ve tasted. The pineapple fried rice looks very good when it was served but tastes like original fried rice… more pineapples please! The real disappointment came with the dessert, which is the mango sticky rice. The mango was light yellow with some brown spots on it, looked pitiful and tasted really stringy. I know mango is a seasonal fruit, and I ordered it at the wrong season, but they should not have even served it if they cannot guarantee the freshness of the fruit. The sticky rice was not very flavourful either, so it couldn’t make up for the bad mango. I’d go back again and try other dishes because we hit a good one, but I have a feeling that it’s probably a hit-or-miss place.

After awhile all of these Thai places start tasting and looking the same and the only thing you can compare them to is the price. I wasn’t super impressed with this restaurant when I came here for dinner. I ordered my usual pad thai. It came in a small oval plate. The food was ok, not super exciting. I liked looking at their décor inside though. I don’t know if I’d come back and eat here again. Nothing really stood out to me. Like this rating, it was«a-ok». However, it was weird that they had a bowl of regular American candy by the door. Most Thai places I’ve been to give you tamarind candy.

The interior of this Thai restaurant in downtown Mountain View is pretty extravagant. White coffered ceilings with rings of gold within each coffer and dangling chandeliers. There are several huge wood carvings and lots of framed pieces depicting the King of Siam. My Sunday afternoon«brunch» started with a sweet Thai Iced Tea and the Sow Kob Por which are individual medium-sized shrimps wrapped in egg roll wrappers and deep fried to a golden crisp. They left these in the fryer a bit too long because the shrimp ended up firm and chewy. Served with a sweet and sour sauce that was sweet and spicy and not in any way sour, this appetizer dish tasted very good. My chicken See Ew was a huge disappointment though. The pan fried rice noodles actually seemed soggy and there was far too much of an overly sweet sauce mixed in. Lots of white meat chicken that was so overcooked that it came out dry and flavorless. There are big chunks of zucchini, zig-zag carrot strips, cabbage and broccoli which presented lots of color but unfortunately could not help in rescuing the worst pad see ew I’ve ever tasted. The service was courteous and efficient and the food preparation time was not very long. The waiter had mostly a blank look on his face throughout my visit. I’m barely giving this place three stars. Two and three-quarters might be more adequate.
