This place might be getting 5 STAR reviews for SMOG checks. But really what can go wrong in SMOG checks. I went to this place to get the rear rotors and brake pads replaced based on the 5 STAR reviews and that they quoted me the cheapest price. Two months later now I have squeaking noises when I apply the brakes and the rotor has so much rust on it, that I am not sure if it was indeed a new one when the put it in. I take my car in to ask them to fix the issue. The guy at the store goes crazy and says «how dare I tell them that its their fault ?“and that «if i have an issue with the brake pads/​rotor that I go and ask the supplier of their brake pads and why they are squeaking and why the rotor is rusting». I tell them that I did not buy anything from the supplier and that if there is anyone who should be contacting the supplier it should be him. His response «You dont tell me what I should be doing. If you want — the mountain view court is a few blocks away — go there and SUE me». At this point I decide that either is guy is high or drunk, coz he starts saying random stuff. He says that he does not owe me any warranty on the job and that he does not like me as a customer and does not want my business. I should have known what to expect when I chose the store that quoted me $ 50 less than any other store. LESSON learned. Your mileage might vary, but if you are doing anything other than a SMOG check I would be very wary of getting any repairs done.

Trustworthy, full disclosure, and jobs well done! My car had some very odd indications of transmission issues. I went to a few other auto repair shops for diagnostics and no one wanted to tell me the exact failing process without beginning the service, which of course couldn’t be named yet, meaning I wouldn’t be able to get an accurate price estimate before signing my name.
Here at Mountain View Auto Repair, it was explained to me exactly what specific parts in my transmission was failing and the reasoning for their idea of best action to take. The repair was done in excellent time more than a month ago, and as promised, I haven’t had any problems since! I trust this company for their care and advice on all my vehicle needs.

I tried to get a simple brake pad replacement, they hassled me on the phone for like 10 minutes about all these other services they wanted to do that I knew I didn’t need (I have over 10 years experience working on cars).

Smog test– excellent service. Fast. Didn’t even have time to sit down and log into my work email! $ 48 for smog + cert.

I love coming to these guys. Always a quick-​no hassle-​no stress service station. They took a look at my vehicle, showed me what was wrong and explained how they were going to fix it and the details it entailed. Definitely the place to go!

Price is cheap, flexibility is great. Need to supervise these guys, they do not follow repair procedures and cut corners. Maybe Ok for simple stuff and old cars. like changing the oil, but still better check to be sure.
Qualification of guys is ok. Communication is not precise, works with extra attention to details.

I’ve brought my car to Mtn View Auto Repair a few times for oil changes and to patch up flat tires. My car is always ready when they tell me it will be. They do good work and provide reasonable quotes: no baiting and switching; no price gouging. I appreciate how I can go to them to get a fair quote and not get that unsettling feeling of potentially being ripped off.

The best in the bay area. I can’t say enough good things about them. I took my car to 3 different places before and finally they were the one who finally fixed my problem. They were very honest and would tell me what was necessary and what was optional at that point so I could save money. Quick and professional. Simply the best.

Fixed my broken taillight in less than five minutes for $ 10 without an appointment. Super friendly and accommodating mechanic.

I have used this place to take care of my cars for several years. They always offer professional service with very reasonable price. Like today, one of my cars had brake light on on the dash board. They thoroughly checked brakes on all wheels for possible mechanical or leaking problems. In the end, they insisted only charging 5 bucks for the bottle of brake fluid they added which fixed my problem. They are just like one of those warm-​hearted neighbors who really want to help you. Highly recommend!

Our family goes here for oil changes, new batteries, breaks, maintenance, etc.
Their service is so quick.
Prices are very reasonable.
The owner and employees are very professional and courteous.
They speak both English and Chinese.
Call in advance. They’re getting busier these days. Rightfully so.

I walked in for a smog check after researched on Unilocal.Saw the smog test price on their board of $ 29.97 + paperwork fee. I asked if he can do it for $ 38 out-​the-​door according to reviews on Unilocal.He said yes, and got right on with the job. I got out there in less than 20 minutes with a passing report.
It’s a small place with 2 Chinese men. Limited parking area but I got what I want at a good price and no waiting, so 5 stars!

I have been using this shop for a couple years. The owners are doing the repair themselves and price is hard to beat.
Yesterday I went in because I occasionally had trouble starting my car. After running computer diagnotics and some manual checking, they found I had a loose connection and help me fixed that and send me on my way all without any charge. Amazing service.
If you need a quick oil change or inspection, think of this place.

I’ve been to this shop several times for repairs and maintenance, most recently for a smog check. During my last visit they pointed out a missing brake light and replaced it for $ 10. The service is always fast (I phone ahead) and the prices are competitive. On one visit they told me I had some nails in my rear tires and said it would be $ 15 to repair, but they only charged $ 5 because just one nail went through the tire. There’s a Peet’s Coffee just around the corner if you need to wait. I’d recommend this shop to anyone.

AVOID AT ALL COST! These people have a habit of pushing you into doing unnecessary repair when you just want to get an estimate. I walked in just wanted them to check if the break pads needs to be replaced, long and behold, without even asking me, they took apart all my wheels and break parts gave me a «now what?» face, basically forcing me to change break pads right then and there. I had no choice but to oblige and end up spending $ 400 on four break pads, which another mechanic later told me was «crappy quality pads».
If you ever go there, better make sure to tell them straight at the start that you just want an estimate and ask them to please not take your car apart first, cuz trust me, they will.
