I just moved to the area and started coming here to do my laundry. But not too sure I’ll continue coming here for very long. The guy that runs this place is kinda creepy. The place is a little run down, many machines are broken, some don’t wash your clothes very well, and it’s a bit overpriced.

I’ve been coming here since early 2010 and I’ve never had a problem. The guy that runs the place seems customer service oriented and I’ve frequently seen him open the doors for customers and ask people directly if they need any help. I grew up in East San Jose where the Laundromats tended to be dirty, un staffed, and with sketchy clientele. Because of my experience I came to the conclusion that it does not take much to make a laundromat good because, let’s be real, it’s a laundromat and Laundromats by the facts of life are not Marriott hotels nor should they be expected to be. My criteria: 1. Is it clean? Yes. 2. Is it staffed? Yes. 3. Does it feel safe and would I be comfortable with my wife going alone? Yes. 4. Is there a restroom available? Yes. 5. Is there an ATM and convenience stores nearby for money, snacks, and ways to kill time? Yes. Number 5 is determined by location and the standard expectation of change machines and detergents/bag dispensers are present. I’m not sure what else one could really ask for in a laundromat other than the basics because the people that would expect a laundromat to be like a Tiffany’s & Co inside can afford their own laundry facilities at home. This is a blue collar working people’s location where you can comfortably come in and take care of your business with ease.

I am on Unilocal now looking for another local laundromat, even though this one is really close to my apartment complex. It’s unfortunate because the location is so convenient, but I had a really negative experience with an employee there and I won’t go there again. I have a washers and dryers in my apartment complex which I use most of the time, but I go to laundromats to wash my blankets which need a large capacity washer. One evening, I stopped in to get some quarters. At the time, I wasn’t planning on doing laundry there — I know there is a sign that indicates that the change machines are for customers only, but I thought it would be okay to run in and do it once. While my quarters were dispensing, a guy came out of the front room and stood in front of the door, blocking my exit. He then began grilling me about what I was planning to use those quarters for(… what did he think I was going to say? gambling? drugs?). He then alternated between telling me I’m not allowed to get quarters from the machines if I’m not doing laundry there, and then backing off saying it was okay because the owner has placed these change machines as «a service to the community»(whatever). The conversation was really strange and didn’t make much sense — it made me feel like he was unstable. Add that to the fact that he was blocking the exit, and it was late and the laundromat was deserted, I felt really unsafe and uncomfortable. Finally he let me through, but then as I was heading to my car, he followed me outside and began grilling me again. I realize I shouldn’t have gotten quarters there without doing laundry, but there definitely was a better way to handle that situation. I won’t go back and risk having another encounter with this guy again.
