Scorpion School of Kenpo

Every time I walk away from class I feel more secure and confident in myself and my abilities. The Scorpion School of Kenpo is a self defense oriented martial arts institution. Classes are structured such that not only do I receive a work out, I also gain invaluable skills meant to give me the upper hand in an unwanted altercation, no matter the opponent.
I continue to frequent this school because it is a defense first school. When students are ready, physical contact is increased and combat realized. This helps prepare students for real altercations and provide a level of confidence and knowledge missing from other martial arts. A lot of focus is placed on making sure you hit what you aim for, and you aim to make sure your attacker does not continue to attack. In a time where sport fighting is glamorized it is nice to take a class that puts an emphasis on ending an unwanted altercation with real world (ie effective) techniques.

I’ve been attending these classes for one year and I’m greatly satisfied with the tuition process. Eric is a real master and he is able to make every class interesting and introduce something new for everyone. Although there is a class I feel like I’m attending a personal trainer.

I highly recommend the Scorpion School of Kenpo. I started kenpo a few years ago under Eric Carey’s instruction with absolutely zero previous experience. Needless to say I was quite nervous, but Eric made me feel completely at ease. Eric does a great job managing the different experience levels in the room, sometimes having everyone workout together, sometimes dividing us into groups depending on skill. He helps everyone equally and always has both constructive critiques and specific compliments. He’s not afraid to get his hands dirty and jump in to show you the right moves – he even takes blows from his students (a chance I was always excited to get). Although I’ve since moved away, I still remember the skills Eric taught me. Give it a shot!

I had been wanting to get into martial arts for a while, and after debating which style I wanted to learn, I decided to go with Kenpo. Eric, the instructor, is a very polite and approachable person who treats all his students with respect. The class is filled with great people who have no problem working together. Being the new guy, I didn’t feel like an outcast. It’s a very welcoming environment.
After only a month, my endurance is much improved, and my mental and physical strength is getting better and better with each class I attended. If you want to learn how to truly harness your inner strength, Scorpion School of Kenpo is the right choice.
