I don’t really like this place. The food is nice though nothing exceptional and the service is poor. The man who serves the dishes is nice but he can’t really do everything on his own when it’s busy. For example we were sitting at a table for two, and the people beside us finished their meal. He put their table next to ours and all our things on their table to give us «more space» and said — I’ll clean up later — so we had to sit at a table with all of the previous patrons dirty dishes and leftovers. It kinda grossed me out so I had to ask him if we could move the dirty table further away.

If you like this venerable, hole-in-the-wall, friendly, Korean-family-run Korean restaurant, go there soon. The Kim family(owners-operators) have been telling customers that the business is sold, after all these years. It’s due to close later his month, and to be replaced with another Korean restaurant with some overlapping menu items. A recent lunch there for five people was a real feast — not just with the diverse entrees and appetizer(grilled shrimp and vegetable skewers) we ordered, but also the endless supplemental savory banchan or «side dishes» of fresh and mildly house-pickled vegetables that have always been a feature of this restaurant(in some meals, they’d keep bringing refills until you’re fit to burst). We even shared a bottle of soju to toast the Kims’ long tenure in the neighborhood, yet with a solid tip the lavish lunch still totaled just $ 15 per person all-inclusive. It is the type of independent, unpretentious, good-value restaurant with a heart, that makes this neighborhood so attractive for dining.

Love this place. It is run by an old couple. Quality food, good value, two small menus. The Al Bob is fantastic, if you into white rice. Most food including the tofu hot pots come with 5 or 6 small side dishes. They used to have purple rice. My favorite is their clear noodle, and it comes with some of their hot plate dishes instead of rice. Not sure how they stay in business frankly, so I tip a lot! :-)

Owned by a cute older couple couple. The husband is the waiter and busboy, so on a busy day, service can be a little slow. Acoustics in the restaurant are poor. During both recent visits, we could hear the conversation of neighboring tables as if they were screaming on my ear. Since this place attracts nearby young people, some of the conversation doesn’t give you the quiet meal you might have been hoping for. Side dishes include Kim Chee, mung bean noodle, sprouts, and picked radish. I’ve gotten more at our Korean restaurants, but for a small place, I’m not complaining. I’ve ordered both the Bi Bim Bob and the Beef tofu soup with rice here. The Bi Bim Bob is good, and given my portions, I even have a little leftover for a late night snack or small lunch. The Beef tofu soup with rice is good, but I’ve had better.

Hidden gem! Need to come here more often for the great tasting dish and the low prices!

Totoro is a great little Korean eatery that has a lot to offer. Great food, excellent service and a casual atmosphere. I had the Bi Bim Bap along with their excellent array of Kimchi. It was one of the better Bi Bim Bap’s that I have had. Totoro also has a nice selection of Soju.

Aside from prices that are $ 1 – 2 below most Korean restaurants, I don’t see much appeal in Totoro. The food is right around average, and the service is a big notch below that. Some reviewers seem to like that this is a «mom and pop» shop. That might be an easier quality to appreciate if they were also deecnt people, or met some basic level of competency in their work. To be clear, I have nothing against the«mom», who’s always been nice and done everything right. Her husband, on the other hand, has: –Spilled an entire tray of someone else’s food on my table –Out of sheer laziness, seated me and some random guy at the same table even though there were FIVEEMPTYTABLES that he just didn’t feel like cleaning up(an attitude that makes you wonder about their hygiene practices) –Screwed up my order twice — and it was the exact same mistake two visits in a row –Whimsically changed the price of food on me without warning — upwards, of course Oh, that last one was retaliation for my having the nerve to actually ask for a new dish when he messed mine up.(I usually trade all my side dishes for one bowl of rice — a move that actually saves them both money and effort — yet this time, he decided to sock me with an extra fee anyway, stating«that’s our policy».) Whether that’s simple pettiness or blatant dishonesty is a judgment call. Here’s another: this place doesn’t deserve my business.

Fish cake soup was good. Gobi was a little off. Not fast service. Bibimbob was good too. Very little side dishes.

Coming here since 2003, food is consistent and delicious. The tofu soup flavors are way better than tofu house.

Ordered a tofu soup from their special menu and didn’t like it. Comparing to my favorite tofu house in Houston, this place is really inferior by all means. Good things first — the soup is flavorful, sour and spicy. But, it’s way too spicy, with lots of paprika in it which made me choke a few times. I had to drink water after a few spoons of soup. I think I ended up drinking more water than soup. There’s also not much tofu and meat in the soup — mostly onions and other vegetables. Their side dishes are also mediocre. And, when I asked for a refill, they charged $ 1 per plate. Come on, unlimited side dish is my favorite part of Korean restaurants, can’t believe they don’t offer it. But I had no choice, at least the side dishes didn’t make me drinking tons of water. I miss Tofu Village in Houston. They offer five different spicy levels for the soup and free refills for six kinds of side dishes. The soup comes with a small fried fish, which is crunchy and tasty, and an egg, and there’s much tofu in it than I could ever finish. Maybe I’m just spoiled :/

A small place with a very limited menu. I ordered the beef bibimbap. It’s ok but nothing to write home about.

I don’t know if this place is closed down, but I came here around 11:40 and it was closed. My family and I later came back at 12:30 and it was still closed. So I don’t know what’s going on and if it’s permanently closed down.

AMBIANCE// Right next to Downtown Mountain View on a side street off Castro. Small place. The tables are a weird curvy shape haha. But no air conditioning so saddddd. :( SERVICE// Super nice and helpful. Quick with the check(didn’t even have to ask, were they trying to nudge us? haha). Gave us iced water in the cute Korean carafes. Always filled it up! One thing that bothered me was that we already had all of our food served and they asked us to move to give another table to a much bigger party. Annoying but whatever, the server was nice about it. FOOD// Cheap and filling! Pork Katsu Bento $ 9.95: One fried dumpling, some fried veggie tempura, glass noodles, kim chi, bean sprout, pickled daikon, white rice, and of course the pork katsu! I think the Pork Katsu was a little dry and a little underseasoned for my tastes, but with the sauce it was acceptable. Kim Bob $ 8.95: Three fried dumplings, glass noodles, kim chi, bean sprout, pickled daikon, and eight pieces of Kim Bob! The Kim Bob was really refreshing on a hot summer day. I really appreciate the plentiful banchan because it was so hot outside the pickled cold side dishes were perfect. When its cold, I totally want to try the Dot Sol Bi Bim Bap! It looked so good! I saw someone order it with TWOEGGS! PRICE// DINNER $ 24TOTAL! And that includes tax and tip! What?! Seriously?! Yes! $ 24 for two people! For dinner! Love this place! I will definitely come back.

We really enjoyed this place! The bento box was great and the cost was totally reasonable especially considering that in this area they could charge anything!

I have walked by this restaurant a few times during my lunch time and my gut feeling kept telling me don’t do it. Well I decided to give them a try and I wish I didn’t. I ordered the bulgogi. It was not tender and it was way too watery like they didn’t cook it over a hot enough pan. It looked steamed and the vegetables were still raw… Sigh. The Jap Chae wasn’t good either. They used too much sesame oil and way too much pepper. If anything that ruined my appetite as my stomach was burning from it. I didn’t like any of the side dishes except for the kimchi. I only took a few bites of my food and asked for the check. I didn’t try any of the other food so I can’t comment but mine was horrible. I would not recommend this place but I guess it gets decent reviews because lack of options. I’d rather drive to Sunnyvale and go to Choi’s Korean Restaurant. That place is with it. I won’t be coming back to this place. You not missing much if you skip this place on your eating list.

Updating my review. The service is still inconsistent but it has been better lately. The food they serve is consistent whenever I come in. The food tastes good, free pickled condiments and the food is served quickly.

I love this business! Great food and friendly harding working staffs! I usually order their bento which comes with a piece of fried dumpling, fried veggies with sauce on the side, white rice, glass noodles, kimchi and with that you can get whatever side meat u want, which in my case, I usually get the beef. My bf got the chicken teriyaki and he loves it! I sometimes get their beef tofu soup and kimchi pancakes which are delicious! I can’t wait to be back here again!

How can you not love a restaurant named Totoro, even though as far as I know, it has nearly nothing to do with Korean food. Maybe it’s a marketing scheme aimed at Asian girls who have a soft spot for Totoro(like me) and don’t care much about the food so long as it has a cute name and they can Instagram(unlike me). But you know a place is lackluster when you can find more words to discuss the name of the restaurant than the actual food. Nothing stands out, and they run a little skimpy on the ingredients. Yeah… I have nothing else to say. There still needs to be a good Korean place in the area.

The owner is the cutest old man! Restaurant itself is very small and food was honestly nothing spectacular. Meals come with three side dishes. For the price, the food is … okay. I had the Spicy Beef Stew(~$ 9). The flavors were good, but the amount of beef(or rather lack of beef) was disappointing. The beef was finely chopped and not very tender at all. The bf got the chicken bulgogi($ 9). The chicken was very very tender and flavorful but was also glimmering in oil. so so so so oily. I’m sad to say that the affordable prices and lack of Korean food options in the *immediate* downtown MV area are the only factors that would bring me back.
