Great food. Reasonably priced. Very courteous and friendly staff. Everything on the menu is on point! Steak & shrimp fajitas are amazing!

I kept my expectations tempered, but realistically was pleased with the service, variety, and my choice of meal. Is it the best Mexican /​Tex-​Mex I’ve ever had? Nope. Is it the worst? Heck no.
The service staff was friendly and attentive. I chose tacos de carnitas, which seemed to be the proper choice as they were tender and flavorful, not overcooked and dry which can sometimes be the case at some places. I’d have preferred a corn over flour tortilla, but this was probably my fault since I didn’t ask if they were available. The rice and beans were pretty middle of the road, but again, temper your expectations. Perhaps it’s just the city, but the water tasted a bit «off» which I couldn’t attribute to any one thing.
My buddy ordered Arroz con Pollo, and while I had the cuban style yellow rice and chicken on the bone in mind from my days living in Cuban areas, they presented him with something completely different. Not bad, but different… it had a bunch of vegetables with rice and boneless chicken, and was actually a pretty healthy looking and tasty (his words) dish.
If you’re limited to the immediate area of Moyock and looking for a decent meal El Potrillo will probably fit the bill. Just don’t expect to be getting something on par of a SW Border State or Rick Bayless masterpiece.

There’s something for very one here, you just have to find it. Once you figure it out you won’t have a bad meal. Margaritas are a good choice any day of the week.

I was with a party of 7. The restaurant was busy. The staff were pleasant. The food was hot and good. We ordered a variety of different dishes. There were no complaints from anyone. The chips were fresh out of the fryer and the salsa was excellent. If your looking for good Mexican food at a decent price you will not be disappointed.

Great food. Honestly some of the best Mexican food I’ve had. All the meats are slow cooked to perfection and the tortias taste like they are had made and fresh. Service was friendly and very fast. Great for the passerby.

Was very disappointed, we were very hungry after being at the beach all day long for father’s day and went there for our father’s day dinner. We were greeted in a bad way then the waiter seemed like he did not want to be at work at all and was not inviting to us at all. I was not impressed buy the food either my husband and daughter got the «chicken and rice» and it was the smallest chicken and rice I’ve ever seen. The waiter was not on top of our table at all, needless to say we will not be returning.

Stopped here for a nice quick lunch passing thru while on my way back from the Outer Banks. Decided on a regular margarita and the Lunch #1 special. A taco, chile rellano, beans, guacamole salad. Wow, the guacamole salad was brought in a separate salad bowl, almost a meal in itself ! Nice lunch and drink for just over 10 bucks. I visit a lot of Mexican places, this one rates on par with the better ones. Not much for ambience, but good food, portions, and value. Olé !

Having lived on the west coast (Los Angeles) and traveled through various parts of Mexico, I have to say this is absolutely the worst Mexican food I have had in my entire life. I have had some bad Mexican food but this takes the cake by a long shot. Either the people that came up with these recipes aren’t Mexican, or they came from a familia that doesn’t know how to cook at all. Either way, they should be ashamed of themselves for serving this «mierda.»
Telling by the three other reviews, and considering this is North Carolina, I realize that most people around here probably don’t have any idea what Mexican food is supposed to taste like. Regardless of the price point and portion size of El Potrillo, it isn’t even good food. To call it Mexican food is shameful to Mexican food.
If I could leave no stars, I would do it. Unfortunately, Unilocal doesn’t allow it. After eating at El Potrillo, I am going to go back and bump up a star on a few of my reviews on other Mexican restaurants I didn’t like since I didn’t think it could get any worse.

One of a few gems in Moyock. Working here, I’ve found that there are few options for food, but despite it’s modest look, I have been repeatedly impressed with this one.
The service is always fast and friendly. The menu offers a variety, and even some options for non-​Mexican lovers. The food reminds me of that I can get from mom & pop shops in Arizona, which is a pleasant surprise for the east coast.
A favorite amongst friends is lunch special #14: Nacho supreme. It has both beef and chicken and is loaded with cheese and all the good stuff.
The prices are very reasonable and the portion sizes will leave you stuffed, but satisfied.
I highly recommend stopping in and grabbing a bite if you’re in the area. If you’re passing through on the way to OBX, it’s worth pulling over and supporting a local restaraunt and skipping the drive thru window.

It is a nice and casual place. It does have a small bar area for those who do not want to sit at a table or booth.
The service is quick, the servers are polite and the food is Delicious! Too look at it, the décor could be better, but I go because they seem to invest in the quality of food they serve. They do not skimp on the servings and I like the diverse menu.

Really great family restaurant. A family of four can eat for less than 40 $. Great menu with large selection. Service is friendly and quick.
