Visited Sushi Joon last night for what should have been one of our favorite and most reliable sushi meals only to find that they had a «permanently closed» sign. Very very sad.

Went here for the 1st time yesterday. Service was great and food was excellent! The even gave us a free appetizer to try and offered us more rice when we finished ours. Reasonable prices too. I had the salmon dinner box and it was perfect!

I have found this place in Unilocal, and I was surprised with the 4.5 stars and good reviews. I had been looking forward to visit here. I think the prices were really cheap, but the fish were really dry, and it was a poor quality sushi. I would never want to go here again.

Love this place, all time favorite sushi restaurant that I have been too in the northwest suburbs. Very affordable, great food and the service is outstanding! If you eat dine-in they really take care of you. Throughout your meal they give you complimentary edamame, miso soup and honeydew/grapes. If you love sushi, I highly recommend you give Sushi Joon a try and you won’t be disappointed. A big portion of the reason I installed Unilocal was to give them a great review!

Not bad but nothing special. The prices are very reasonable. The seaweed around the rolls is a bit chewy.

Very good and fresh sushi. We ordered 4 rolls for lunch. It comes with free green tea, miso soup, and edamame. That was nice because other restaurants charge you extra for that. Can’t wait to return. Three rolls in the pic: white dragon, kiwi, and salmon crunch.

This is a wonderful, cozy sushi restaurant. When we walked in we were immediately greeted and given a table. Soon after green teas were poured for both of us. This was a really nice touch, as most places would only give green tea if it were ordered. My husband enjoyed the sushi. It was not his favorite in the area but he did enjoy it and would come again. I had the yakiniku(similar to Korean bul go ki), which was awesome!!! It was one of the best I have tried and the salad that came with it had a really unique dressing that I really enjoyed. We both loved the cozy feel of the restaurant. This is a great place for a date night. The coziness of this place and the service brought many memories of my trip to Japan. I will most definitely be back.

Fresh, delicious and a great bargain. They have amazing lunch specials and so much food kept coming out that I nearly couldn’t finish. The sashimi combo had huge pieces of fish and the dragon roll was on the larger side as well. The staff was friendly and attentive. If I lived nearby, I’d be here all the time.

Cute little hole-in the wall restaurant. Seemed to be family owned. Relaxing environment. Seemed like I was actually in Japan. Free miso soup and cantaloupe w/grapes. Was a little on the pricey side, but great quality sushi. My boyfriend absolute loved the sashimi dinner and my Philadelphia roll was of great quality. I will definitely be going back!

4.5 stars. I stood waiting for someone to seat me(close to a minute) and no house salad with my dinner, otherwise I would of rated the place 5 stars! But I gave 5 stars over 4 and here’s why: –The miso soup, delicious! –House salad(ordered separately) delicious! –The sashimi was perfectly proportioned and radish was cut PERFECT! Very important. –The dragon roll was perfectly delicious with a hint of wasabi. It was like the roll I have been searching for! –Rainbow roll was perfect! –The spicy scallop roll was nice! –They even brought out fresh cantaloupe and grapes for dessert. –They also presented complimentary tempura style green beans, half spicy, half regular for my babies. –I love my rolls with a bite and must have fish row on top. Beside the spicy scallop, my two rolls where exactly how I would make them if forced to do it myself!!! No Shit! My 2 and 3 year old girls loved the Edamame(soy beans). They each ate a bowl. They also loved the miso soup and rice. That ate it all. Now my kids are hell on wheels so they definitely put on a show! The waitresses where on top of it, dropped chop sticks, napkins, water with dinner(rare nowadays), they did great. Mind readers! My gf does not eat sushi so I usually go alone. She did order some chopped steak with veggies and gaged the whole time so I reached in and took a bite… it was great and I do not eat steak! She’s sensitive! Will I go back? Umm, you bet! Canned soda took me by surprise so you know that means no free refills but the fish was fresh and they gave us waters. I can tell good sushi when it just sucks up the soy sauce. I normally use 2 tbsp but tonight I kept pouring. My 3 year old used starter sticks once before and tonight she was snatching up food left and right, it was so awesome and as a matter of fact, I said«awesome» and my 2 year old who doesn’t even say«yes» yet, said«awesome» perfectly clear!! We made memories tonight at sushi joon! We ate great for $ 69 bucks, tipped $ 21 and I feel terrible I didn’t tip more. I’m the Tip King and I didn’t tip good! What was I thinking? I’ll load them up next time! Thanks to your reviews people, I found another great sushi joint!!!

Good Sushi with great service… My wife and I decided to try this place out on a Saturday evening. It happened to be that we were the only ones in here during that time. As we were seated at our table the server was very nice and took our drink orders. We took a look at the menu and then noticed that they also have a piece of paper where you check the items that you want and with a quantity of how many rolls you want. Since we had some questions about the differences of some of the sushi the server was very helpful in explaining what those differences were. After we chose our sushi our server had brought us some complimentary edamame which to be honest I never tried before but it was fun to eat. The Tuna volcano was very good. Overall, the sushi was good, fresh and tasty. The service was good and the staff was very caring and always checking in on us. Nice sushi addition to Mundelein. At this point I am giving them a solid 3.5 stars.

So little known fact… Sushi Joon used to be located in Wheeling. It was my go-to spot for sushi. Then I moved away for a few years and came back, but they were gone. Turns out that they moved to Mundelein and I finally found them after searching for sushi places nearby. So they are no longer very close to me(about 7 miles away), but I had to take the drive to try them out again. The lunch special prices are really good, especially the lunch boxes which includes an entrée, a soup, a salad, rice, and California roll for under $ 9. Regular maki’s are a good price too… with most rolls at $ 5 or less. Specialty rolls are a bit higher, but not outrageous for the size. Unfortunately, the sushi rolls were not amazing. A bit too much vinegar in my opinion, but they were not bad. I would deduct a half star for this, but there’s no half star ratings on Unilocal. So Sushi Joon — if you are reading this, cut down on the vinegar in the rice! And the show-stopper was the spicy green beans. OMG, soooooo tasty! Tempura fried green beans drizzled with spicy mayo and unagi sauce. I could eat a bucket full of these things. Yum, yum, yum. So 4 ½ stars overall, but rounded up to 5 stars.

Amazing! We have tried several sushi places around the area since we moved here, we have not been impressed. This is a hidden gem. The service is one of the best we have encountered, the sushi is fresh and soooo good! They seem like they care about their customers. The fresh brewed green tea hits the spot and the complimentary edemame, miso soup and fruit is such a nice gesture! We had 4 sushi rolls and a sushumi platter and they give a generous amt. We will be coming back! So glad we finally found our sushi spot!

Wow. I wouldn’t consider myself a sushi connoisseur, but I know good sushi when I eat it. When you walk into the restaurant you’re greeted by a pleasant woman and can already see the 2 chefs in robes hard at work. If you like miso soup you need to order it here because it’s one of the best I’ve ever had and edamame was served complimentary. Now the sushi. I had the standard California and Saki Volcano and believe when I say you won’t be disappointed. The crunchy salmon made the sushi even better along with the unique pink ginger. The staff was very friendly and made the amazing meal even more enjoyable!

I love this little sushi restaurant. The sashimi and sushi rolls are good quality and reasonably priced. They even have uni on the menu(which is pretty shocking considering this is Mundelein, not Chicago). They also give you complimentary miso soup and edamame. and I love anything that’s FREE. You know a restaurant is good if it has repeat customers, and you can tell all of the patrons here are regulars. The employees seemed to know each and every person who came in which is a good sign. They care about their customers and it shows in the service and cuisine.
