We have been semi-regulars for quite a while, eating in and getting takeout. Last night we ordered a couple of rolls and tuna and salmon sushi with brown rice for takeout. The taste seemed fine, but it was not very well made and just seemed different than what we’ve gotten before. The rolls fell apart, I could not even get them out of the tray. And the sushi had hardly any rice and was oddly sliced. It was like the sushi was made by a trainee. Very disappointing.

The Bento Box was excellent. The spicy Chirashi was a big bowl of lettuce advertised as vegetables in the menu. Tried to discuss with the waiter but he did not pay us any attention from the time the food was brought to the table to when the bill arrived. Tried to discuss with the manager, she cut me off and kept saying«what you want?» I just paid my bill and left. It’s a Japanese restaurant run by folks from a non-Japanese country. Don’t expect gentle and cultured Japanese manners. Very poor service!

Despite the restaurant being very close to where we live we had not been here until recently. Finally we did decide and landed up on a cold wintry evening. The place is nicely done in terms of interiors however there was a strong stench of seafood & fish oil as we walked in. Of course that would be expected in a restaurant such as this, it was bit overpowering. However we eventually got used to it once we had settled. Our server was very cordial and even suggested a few items considering it was our first time here. The fact that the menu was expansive(atleast 200ITEMS) didn’t make things easier. Here’s what we had: Crab Lover: A roll of crab mix, avocado & caviar. It was decent nothing great but nothing bad either. Vegetable Salad Roll: Again decent Chicken Udon: I absolutely loved this noodle soup. Had asked for it to be made spicy and it was a great combination of soy based spicy soup with udon noodles & tender, melt in the mouth chicken pieces Vegetable Fried Rice: This was excellent too and some what like home style fried rice. We asked for it to be spicy and with egg Choco Latte smoothie: Downright horrible. The lesser said the better. Just a slush of crushed ice and flavorings. Definitely not a smoothie. It was a decent experience overall but I did have great hopes of great sushi for a place like this. Will be back only for the Udon soup and Fried Rice.

I’ve been here a few times for lunch and I’m obsessed! They have such a large lunch menu and the portions are great for the price! My favorite so far is the bento box. I love the beef or salmon teriyaki with the spicy tuna rolls. Lunch ends at 2pm! Also you can order take out for the lunch menu but for the bento box I noticed the portions are smaller than when you eat in. So if you can eat at the restaurant if you want more! But if you don’t come for lunch then the dinner menu is quite pricey. But the food and service is great! The interior is really beautiful and is alot bigger than it looks on the outside. It’s great for a small or large parties! Hope you guys love it too!

love love love LOVE this place!!! I have been to quite a few sushi places in the area & have frequented them for years, but for some reason I hadn’t thought to stop by Sushi Kushi San3 until a few months ago. Now it is my go-to! My husband has never liked sushi so when I brought him here for the first time, he was skeptical. I ordered him the Shrimp Lover roll & he’s been obsessed ever since! We actually have come here once a week for the past month or so. The service is great, food is amazing, ambiance is lovely. Do yourself a favor: try this place out!

Foods great. But by far the worst service I’ve ever had. My drink was constantly empty. They forgot one persons meal entirely, and didn’t even notice for 20 minutes as they never came back. It was so bad it was comedic. They had the people. They’d look at us, and then not so at the table still. We’re not going back as is been this way 3 times now.

My friends and I came here last night for dinner around 6. We were deciding on which sushi place to go to and ended up here. I really like the interior of this restaurant it is very simple and welcoming with plain wooden chairs, a communal dining table and a sushi bar. They had 5 sushi chefs working at the same time if that gives you any idea of how busy they were. We ordered an immense amount of food since we were so hungry which was really unnecessary because we weren’t able to eat all of it. We had the chicken katsu, tuna /salmon carpaccio, blazing roll, turtle roll, sweet potato roll, fried eel tempura appetizers, ton of nigiri including tamago, eel, and salmon, and toro. We also ordered a few other rolls that I don’t remember the name of. The fried eel tempura appetizer here is amazing huge chunks of eel deep fried and covered in crunchies. The tuna /salmon carpaccio also came with a side salad and about 10 pieces of fish which was great for the price. The blazing roll was huge and covered in sauce but actually had a great spicy flavor. I would definitely come here again for americanized fattty saucey sushi.

Can’t believe I haven’t written a review for this place before. It is the closest sushi to my house and I’ve eaten there had had take out multiple times. This is one of my adult son’s favorite places. Last night we had take out and everything was go to excellent as always. I has a couple of the kushi(skewers) for the first time, gizzard and fish balls. and a roll. My son had a Central roll and my wife the udon with tempura. Kind of pricey but good quality and flavor.

You’ll notice all the one star reviews are«not recommended» and I’m not sure why because they all seem authentic. What a busy this place is. Rude staff, long waits and hit or miss food. The sushi all smells less fresh than you would want when eating seafood. It took 5 minutes to be greeted just to be told they wouldn’t give me a booth because my group was too small — not because they didn’t have 3 available. The hostess yelled at me when this pointed it out. Fine — small table it is. Tables are practically on top of each other so every time someone at the next table got up to use the restroom we were bumped. Drink list is mediocre. Staff doesn’t seem to really know the menu. Just no. Never again. Too many other options around.

After moving back to the area after 6 years in Japan, I have been searching for a Japanese place to get non-sushi Japanese food. I absolutely love Sushi Kushi San3! Their menu is surprisingly large, and has Japanese favorites I’d never thought I’d see north of Arlington Heights like maruyaki ika, ochazuke, onigiri, korokke(croquettes, warning: they are huge), buta kimchi, and their amazingly delicious and authentic gyudon. There are plenty of American-style sushi rolls and classic nigiri, though their yakitori(kushi) menu and straight up Japanese«home cooking» selections are what keep us coming back. There are also some things that aren’t like things I’ve seen in Japan, but are delicious like the ika butter appetizer(how do they make squid taste like steak?!). We love the selection and have always had friendly and speedy service. We like to order various dishes to share as if we were at an izakaya. The gyudon is not to be missed! Try and catch it for cheaper at lunch, but the dinner portion is great to share between two people, especially if you are sampling other menu items.

My husband and I just moved here from Florida, so we are very picky about our sushi. This place is great! They didn’t have a particular roll that my husband was looking for so the sushi chef custom made a roll for him. The staff is friendly! We will be back for sure!

I ordered the sashimi salad and it wasn’t bad. Service was really good. Not a huge fan of the music/vibe from the restaurant compared to the sushi restaurant I work at and other places I’ve been to. Maybe their sushi rolls are better but the food was simply ok. Won’t be going back.

Great selection on the menu. Our dish(although I can’t remember which it was) was superb and quite flavorful. The sushi bar is a great addition with imported alcoholic beverage options as well.

I dont understand where the 4 star of this place comes from. Must all be from lunch diners who are going after their bento box. Ordered the veggie yakisoba here and it is not palatable at all. very sour, never had such terrible yakisoba. I thought the yakisoba at tokyo bowl was weird but this place made tokyo bowl look like heaven. i asked the person working at the register how many pieces are in different rolls and all she said was, they are all different and looked away. thanks for answering my question, you just lost a customer wanting to order sushi. their wait was also long, 25 minute for a take out!!! i ended up going to the cold stone next store to wait it out. the only reason why this place is not 1 star is because the décor is nice. also this place is owned by koreans, yes koreans eat sushi too but if you want real japanese sushi, you know what you get here will lack authenticity.

Great staff and service. Yummy crab app is just that. Real crab, tempura and eel sauce. Red Dragon roll is another winner.

Okay so I’ve been to the sushi Kushi in lake forest once and thought it was pretty good but that was a long time ago. I’ve been to the sushi Kushi in Highland Park many times since I used to work right by there and thought it was always so fresh and on point. So, I figured I needed to try out this place and hoped that I would like it as much as the others. Came in around 8:15 on a Saturday night with a friend and it was jam packed, there were only like 2 tables available and a few open seats at the bar so I grabbed the last booth seat I could find. The service throughout was eh. Our server wasn’t super nice nor was she super mean, she just kinda wanted us in and out. I didn’t know which were the specialty rolls to order so I felt kind of lost in that regard and she didn’t offer any suggestions. Thanks to Unilocal,I saw the yummy crab appetizer roll and it looked pretty freaking yummy so I ordered it. It was delicious and I definitely recommend it. The other rolls I got were a few spicy salmon rolls, some unagi rolls and they were all pretty average and nothing out of the ordinary. There was a good fish to rice ratio which I liked. We did get a few specialty rolls like the Nixon which has smoked salmon instead of regular salmon and I didn’t seem to like that. The dragon roll was good but less pieces than i am usually accustomed to. So overall the sushi was decent, definitely liked that yummy crab appetizer but the rest of the meal was blah. I don’t think I’ll be dying to go back unless one of my friends who lives in the area thinks it’s a must for some reason but I am sure I’ll be back to the other locations which I enjoyed more. But like all, I love the name Sushi Kushi, that’s just cute in itself.
