24 Hour Fitness

I am a fan of 24 Hour Fitness since joining almost three years ago. While I usually don’t have issues with the gym or cleanliness, I do use the class instructors as a good indicator of the quality of the gym and whether I would go back.
After taking Bodypump for 3 years with probably 10 – 15 different instructors, I had never experienced one this bad as I did on Feb 29, 2015. I appreciate her talkative nature but she had several technical issues getting the music to play. After 15 minutes, her husband dropped off the cord for her phone and she tried to make the best of it. However, she was all over the place with her tracks to the point where multiple people were leaving about 30 minutes.
I can understand if she was a new instructor, but she boasted about how she trained other instructors and made them do the class without music. However, she was an epic fail at this. I did tell the staff on the way out. She could have just been having a rough day but I think she is just not at the standards I or anyone else would expect from 24 Hour Fitness.

I paid for my membership in June 2006, after their sales team convinced me that since I was going into the military two months later, my membership would be frozen and I could unfreeze it when I got out. Fast forward to getting out as we all expected, and sure enough they froze my account, but they won’t honor the time I paid for (3 years for $ 500) — so what ultimately happened is I paid $ 500 to go to this gym for less than three months. I’m a veteran with a disability, I wasn’t trying to pull a fast one on anybody. Seems they’ll take advantage of you if they get the chance. Tried working it out with corporate but they just kind of gave us the runaround. The facilities are pretty nice, and even considering so, I think it’s generous for me to give them these two stars, considering they owe me 34 months that they have no intention of honoring up to now, by my calculations. The people I spoke to in person included the sales manager and a female working up front who were professional and personable, but it looks like they’ll lose out on business because of corporate’s policies.

This 24 is a little further away from my apt and a little smaller than other 24s in my opinion but it has the best ujam class! So far I’ve only tried the ujam class taught by Amber and I’m loving it! She is very energetic and keeps the class fun. I am usually drenched in sweat by the time the class is over so I know I’m getting a good workout. If you’re close to this location, definitely give this class a try and don’t get discouraged if you can’t keep up the first time!

It’s a gym that is deffinatly a step up from the Planet Fitness and the like that are sprouting up, just by the trancendance of having a lap pool, sauna, basketball court and more modern equipment. This is also one of the cleanest gyms I have been too and some of the nicest staff. Unlike at Planet Fitness, you’re going to get bros here that slam weights down, carry gallon water jugs and leer at people. Those are things I’m willing to live with for better equipment, classes and a lap pool. If you’re looking for a more well rounded gym, this is where you should check out.

Nothing too fancy but a good gym for a tough workout. Lots of parking. Normal equipment and many buff people working out here.

This location is poorly managed. Water bottle fillers are broken for months now. Antibacterial soap dispensers are always empty.
The staff is rude and unfriendly. When you bring something to their attention they seem put out. They sit at the front desk and eat while ignoring the members going in and out.
Most 24 hour fitness locations greet you on the way in and out, not this location.
The trouble starts with the head manager on down.
24 hour fitness is a great gym, this location is not.
Pool is nice, Locker room is nice.

Out of all of the 24s in the Salt Lake Valley this is the cleanest one. I have never questioned the quality of this gym. It is worth the drive.

The 5 stars are for the classes and the beautiful instructors that teach there! I go to 3 separate zumba classes, 1 yoga class and 1 bodycombat and they ALL kick my booty. I am officially addicted

Zumba! Veronica, Patricia and Amber are the best. If you’re looking for good workouts, this is a great place to come.

Kristina was impersonal. She displayed kindness only after she was afraid she was going to lose me as a client.
Tawna seemed nice but became very stringent and impersonal once she actually roped me into a contract. She was adamant about cutting into workout time by planning a schedule. When I mentioned that I didn’t appreciate that, she became very defensive, arguing that she needed to do it to hold onto her job (despite being a «Master Trainer»). Tawna also blasted my Kristina for planning schedules outside of workout time because Kristina was «desperate» for clients.
Not appreciating Tawna’s condescension, I said that I wanted to stop working with her. That seemed to offend her, causing her to yell and asking a manager named Shak (former Alta High football great Sausan Shakerin) to request that I leave.
Tawna claimed that I canceled workouts within 24 hours advance time with Kristina. Yet, she wouldn’t confirm that Kristina told her as much — and Tawna had previously indicated that she didn’t talk with Kristina.
Lots of artificial niceties, lots of impersonality and even complaints about their own co-​workers at the Murray 24 Hour Fitness Center. They need to organizationally reshape themselves both in terms of working with clients and each other.

I really like 24 Hour Fitness because they don’t try to sell you crap every time you walk in, unlike another large chain in the area. Some of the equipment has quite a few miles on it and could stand to be replaced and it definitely gets crowded around peak times, but I can always do what I need to get done. They appear to have a little daycare facility, but I don’t have kids, so I’ve never used it.

Well, unfortunately, the time has come to update my review of 24 Hour. Here’s why: As I mentioned before, it lacks some things an avid lifter would commonly use, that along with its cardio equipment not being as up to date as its brothers and sisters around the valley, its putting Mr. 56^th behind the game.
Also, I have some reservations about the staff. Now, this particular 24 has some amazing trainers who really know what they are talking about, care about the clients, transform bodies, and do a lot of little things you generally don’t see. I would recommend them in a heart beat.
My complaints come when I’ve purchased something, had an issue with my membership, or tried to have the staff review video survilleance for a possible hit and run in the lot. The rundown: I was told I could return something same day for money back, came back same day — wouldn’t refund my money. With being a member, you get 10% off select items if you have an account set up, sometimes you get it, sometimes you don’t — same items I’ve purchased before mind. Videos, Ill look into for. 3 days later. Ill look into. 5 days later. Ill look into. Etc… Sadly this lack of adequate customer service contributes to its fall from 4 stardom.

Nice and clean facility. The weight lifting floor is a little tight with machines and could be more spacious. But all in all this gym is a good choice compared to the other 24hours. Especially ones like 24 hour sugarhouse that makes me uncomfortable due to people trying to hook up in the locker room. IF you go to the gym go to workout no get tail.

I mainly go to a gym because I can play basketball and use the pool since i can normally work out at home. Since I haven’t gone in a while, I didn’t realize that they close the courts for about 4 hours a day. They also don’t regulate full court games so if you want to go in there and play, you have to sit and wait until these guys, who probably think they would have made it big if coach had put them in during the 2a state championship, are done.

I’ve been going to 24 Hour Fitness for over two years. This Murray location is my favorite to date. There are two floors; cardio is upstairs and weights are downstairs. The basketball court is smaller than the Sugar House location, but large enough to accommodate two games at the same time. In the weights area there are two cable pulley stations, numerous machines, three squat racks and a row of free weights, complete with benches. It can be a bit tight in the weight area. The upstairs cardio area has all the usual suspects. One thing that I find annoying is that half to two-​thirds of the treadmills are a stripped down, optionless version of the treadmills found at the other locations. They are best described as recession treadmills, I guess. The reason that I love this gym is the pool area. The pool is clean as is the sauna, hot tub and steam room. Unlike the disgusting conditions at the Sugarhouse location– with it’s gross men, yucky floors and tile covered with fungus and who-​knows-​what– the Murray pool area is pleasant. I really like this gym!
