After a year of visiting this Bitro & Bakery periodically, I have to say that I am over it. The food is good when they have all of the ingredients. Shining stars are the Bistro sauce and the Tortilla(although who knows how long they have been in the refrigerated cabinet). One of my biggest complaints is about the price. My turkey sandwich cost $ 6.48, which would be fine if it came with chips. It seems that each time I visit the prices go up. The cookies are not worth the price, they are dry. The service is friendly, but a little too laid back. When I ask to see a list of sandwiches, I really want to see the list.

The gentleman behind the counter was a great help since we’ve not experienced their food before. He recommended getting a variety of items. We got one of each: chicken and beef empanadas, pasculina, and a milanesa sandwich… the sandwich is what we really ended up loving the most… and make sure you get the special sauce on it that gives it a kick. The atmosphere was nice. Lots of large tables and some couches. Would be a great place to have coffee and a pastry while studying or working. I wish it was closer to my house, I’d frequent often since it’s hard to find a coffee shop with a lot of seating. They currently have a few ducks that like to visit and hang out outside the place… adds some eccentricity!

Much has already been written about this nice, little coffee shop. While I’ve been here several times now, strangely enough, I’m yet to try any of their brewed stuff. To me, B&B is all about their unique food items. What I like the most are their chicken empanadas and the alfajores. They are delicious. The chicken empanadas aren’t always available though. But the beef ones are usually kept well stocked. Occasionally, I’ve tried their other lunch items such as Pasculina and Spanish Tortilla. They are also quite tasty. A whole tortilla can leave you feeling really full! But more than anything else, it’s those little delicacies that bring me back here again and again.

South American food done right. Outside looks run down but the taste is pretty darn good. They also have wifi, a few couches with a TV in the middle of the room.

Stopped in for some sustainment before a morning of estate sales with the sis from NV and her new yawkah friend, Barb. We got the pasculina… yum, a ½ inch of cooked spinach with some egg, a little cheese, some pastry??? Poifect… had the tea cappucino, very good– i added my own cinnamon, I think I’d rather have it come dusted(hey, what can i say? I’m lazy). We ended up buying out the place and I took 4 pasculina’s to go to a party… and ended up with leftovers– these things hold well. They may become a rotation in my quest for a healthy breakfast for the car? The pastries with cream were fabulous… the dough was so good, not too sweet and so fresh and soft. These things were fabulous. I also bought some apple strudel that my hubbie was supposed to share with his mom… that didn’t happen. You are expecting that he ate it and didn’t share… but he forgot it so I ate it and didn’t share. Yes, my pants are getting tighter. But it’s worth it. Oh, one thing… Les(the owner) I think you need to find some efficiencies… service is a tad slow. It’s not on my commuter route, but if I was in a big hurry, I don’t know that I’d stop. But for a relaxed stop in at a bakery… absolutely lovely.

It appears I’m the last person on the planet to visit Bakery & Brews. It was a slow afternoon for them when I dropped by… only 5 or so other parties in the place. At 2pm on a Monday afternoon, this should tell you something. Anywhere else would be as barren as Winnemucca, NV. Not this place! Not a cool, hip little spot like B&B who, through little fault of their own, is disguised as one of the many innocuous coffee shops serving up a few forgettable bakery items. In other words, do NOT believe your eyes when you first find this joint nestled in an outerlying spot on the northeast side of Smith’s parking lot on west 5300. Inside, it’s stylish and well thought-out. Nice, comfortable seating choices and an atmosphere begging to be utilized for relaxation and casual conversing. Sauntering leisurely up to the counter, as I do, I was immediately greeted by the smiling owner, Les. Other reviewers have adequately described the impressive level of service provided by Les and his wife, Jacqueline, and I was not disappointed to find that they are speaking the truth. It was inspiring to see Les’ commitment and pride for his business. He spent a good 20 – 30 minutes with me, happily taking me on a visual tour of his wares, pointing out each and offering a description of its contents. All cases of delectable pastries were covered.(Is everything in Argentina stuffed with Dulce de Leche? Lucky.) Les was charming, informative, funny and SO generous; allowing me to sample his coffee and tea drinks.(The mate was very good. I’ll get me a soothing cup of that next time around.) The coffee at B&B is sourced locally from Meridian(Murray), which made me happy to hear. They offer good beans at a reasonable price. I like their custom roasts and blends. For me, Les created a delicious Americano with a fresh brew that, alone, was slightly bitter at first sip. But after he worked his Americano magic on it, I couldn’t put it down. So. Good. After the impressive edibles tour, I was up against it. I needed a decision of what to order. I mean, have you SEEN the photos on here of their empanadas and Milanese sandwich? Just deciding between those two alone was rough. Then you have three different empanada choices — chicken, beef, or Uruguayan(little larger with raisins/sweet aspect). I went with the regular beef empanada, both in an effort to keep it simple for my first time, and because I wasn’t terribly hungry. Les asked his lovely wife to include both the chimichurri sauce and the Mexican spicy sauce for me to try. It was delivered to me directly from the kitchen in the sweetest little paper sack by the sweetest little girl — Les & Jacqueline’s 4-yr-old daughter. Precious! I also left with a requisite pastry. Sugared on the outside, it was pretty much a large raised donut hole filled with … you got it … Dulce de Leche. It was a thick, pudding-like consistency, and it was like eating the nectar of caramel ambrosia. It was magnificent, for the first few bites. In the end, it was too much sweet for me, and I was wishing I’d gone with a slice of the fluffy pink peach cream cake. I would have gone for the coconut alfajores, but evidently they are beloved by many. The coconut crumbs were the only remains… Here’s the part that made me think there had been a mistake — my total was $ 4 and change. No fooling; for what turned out to be the most delicious meat-stuffed pastry I’ve EVER had, an obscenely yummy filled donut, and a large(Italians call this Venti) Americano. I’ve paid eleven times this much for far more disappointing food. Although the location is less than convenient for me, I do see myself going back to Bakery & Brews often. Let’s be honest — I simply don’t have the inner strength nor desire to resist.

This place closed Very good. Friendly owners amazing soups, sandwiches and latte! Latte is way better than panera bread co, and that used to be my fav coffee place to go. The menu is a little confusing and I ordered something I thought was a 3.50 sandwich and it ended up being like 6.00 because I wanted it as a sandwich but I thought it was one to begin with, what else would it have been? I ordered one smoothie and the guy accidently made too much and just gave it to us so the kids didnt have to share, i thought that was very generous of him! Anyway I will be going back again and again.

The reviews are true! Friendly service and even better Alfajores. Omg, little delectable cookies with caramel sandwiched in between and lightly dusted with coconut flakes. It was love at first taste. Coffee ice cubes — ingenious! We have found our new study spot!

Do not let the outside influence your decision to go in. The awning on the building is horrible and makes it look bad. Not the owners fault, it’s the landlord. Inside is very nice with lots of micro-fiber couches. Very friendly owners with a great selection of food. We had the milenesa sandwich and beef epmpenada with vanilla soy latte and regular latte. Everything was great. The owner suggested I add a fried egg to the sandwich and it was wonderful. A very nice place and will go back again.

Move on over Beans & Brews, a new B&B has come into town and goes above and beyond your average coffeehouse fare. Not only is the customer service(by either Les or his wife) superb and highly attentive, but they have a mean South American menu. I had actually been meaning to come here a few months ago after I read rave reviews about their empanadas, but I couldn’t quite justify driving to Murray just for a coffee shop. After having tried the beef empanada, as well as the milanesa with steak, and a perfectly sweetened caramel macchiato, I can justify the drive. The empanada was exactly what an empanada should be, served with whatever sauce you want, I was a fan of the spicier sauce brought out. Although Les informed me that he could whip out a mango habanero sauce if it struck my fancy. The Milanesa was delicious, they had lots of options to put in my sandwich, which I jumped on nearly all of them. I was so sad that I got too full to finish it while I was there, but I devoured it when I got home. The food alone merits the drive, but Bakery & Brews is actually a great study spot, as well as a great place to just hang out with friends. There are plenty of tables and couches, and the entire feel reminds me of home. The only qualm I have so far is that they need a few extra power outlets, but if you try hard enough, you can find some by the couches. So if you’re in the neighborhood(or find yourself on I-15 near 5300 South), Bakery & Brews is not to be missed!

Out in the middle of Murray, there happen to be a coffee shop that serves various Latino food items. I was quite amazed by it, as I never bother coming anywhere close to here before. It has a nice coffee shop layout with a few couches and tables that can be pushed together for meetings. The staffs here are also very friendly. The Latino foods they serve here are originated from Uruguay, and probably the first time I had food from that region. I tried their empanadas and Chai Latte to start with. The Chai tasted just like any other Chai I had before. The empanada came with a side of sauce, which I believe is to moisturize the empanadas as they were very dried unlike empanada I had from other originated from other Latino regions. Perhaps they are supposed to be that dried in Uruguay? After that I got a Milanese sandwich with chicken, and I found that the owner has a secret batch of mango habanero sauce, which you can request on the sandwich for an additional $ 0.50. The fruitiness and spiciness went very well together, as it was not just spicy sensation, but delicious sweetness at the same time. The chicken was moist and juicy. I was a happy man after eating the sandwich. I am sold on Bakery & Brew after they threw in the tasty mango habanero sauce, and none of the flaws seems to matter anymore. I would definitely return here in the future.

I really can’t say enough about Bakery and Brews. I visited months ago but just got a coffee because I didn’t realize they had other amazingly delicious items waiting for me. I stopped by last week for a Unilocal meeting that Jeffrey S put together. The owner, Les was there and he recognized me from various social media sites. I am always really impressed with people who remember or recognize me. It makes me feel special! I started off with an iced coffee. Nothing spectacularly different but I absolutely love that they make and use coffee ice cubes. No risk of super watered down coffee which is important for me because I’m the slowest drinker on the face of the planet. I tend to sip and nurse my drinks all day/night. I had a hard time deciding what to eat but finally decided on a Milanesa sandwich; breaded chicken or beef with fresh toppings. The second I bit into it, I was absolutely sure I made the right choice. I got the beef with lettuce, tomato, cheese, cucumbers, onion, mayo, a mustard spread and jalapenos. WOW. So so good. The bread was perfect for the sandwich. Soft but crispy. The jalapenos added the perfect amount of heat and the beef was tender. I am drooling right now at the thought! My favorite part of Bakery and Brews are the people. Les is so wonderfully gracious and really sweet. It was so nice to meet him and put a face to the name behind the shop. He is happy to explain anything on the menu and offer suggestions. I only wish that they were open later! I have a hard time getting there during the week since I work downtown and they close at 6PM. But they are open on Sunday which is always a nice change.

Immediately after I got my undergraduate degree, I jumped on a plane and flew my butt down to Uruguay for an entire month, with no plans other than to hang out with my fine Uruguayan friends. My friends’ mother was a true Uruguayan cook! I must have gained 10 pounds the month I was there. Uruguayan food is in general a well kept culinary secret, and what a culinary gem it is! So, you’re just going to have to take my word for it. Bakery & Brews serves up some good Uruguayan grub. I’d recommend you try the milanesa if it’s your first try. Adventurous eater or not, you’ll dig this sandwich. And if you’re a tea drinker in general, give the Yerba Mate a go. Good stuff man.

What a fantastic little find! And you do have to find it, but it’s well worth it. We went for the food, but the couches and little tables lend themselves perfectly to visiting, sipping and munching. The owners are so friendly and accommodating. There is a great selection of baked goods and a really great menu full of South American fare, plenty of reasons to head there for a complete meal. We had a fairly large group and were following a fairly large group so we just took over the large tables pushed together in the center. Two different menu items, the noquis and then the penne with with a red pepper cream sauce, caught my eye. So, I asked if they could put the sauce over the noquis. YES. They were happy to. And even whipped up a fresh batch of sauce for us. I also got to try a few bites of milanesa, beef and chicken empanadas, a very tasty cookie with red filling, and bites of a slice of cake with peaches and lots of whipped cream. UMUM good. Everything was delicious. They had live music the night we were there. It was quite loud in volume, but was a mellow enough style that I enjoyed it and was happy to join in the noisy chatter of the shop talking over it. I love that they have quite a few small inexpensive menu items that would be perfect for a light lunch or a little snack while you visited with an old friend, or a new friend, or really, even just sit and chill with a good book by your lonesome. Ahhh…

This is my new coffee shop, and I used to work at Starbucks! love the atmosphere, love the coffee, i especially love the carrot cake! I love my little corner with the fluffy couch facing the mountains. Everyone is really nice and everything is always fresh. They foucs on always having their products in top quality. They might be slightly pricy, but its worth it. This place is good for a first date or to meet up with friends.

Loved it. Got to meet the owners and they were so friendly and fun. They put a lot into their place and it shows. We live in taylorsville and wanted to try breakfast. Had a breakfast burrito and sandwich. Amazing deal! The food was hot and tasty. We were shocked at how afforable it is! Definitely try this place. Great selection… support our local businesses. We will be back for sure!

Milanesa! Empanadas! Alfajores! Ñoquis! Pan Dulce! Flan! Okay, catch your breath Jeffrey… big finish… It’s a South American dream! Bakery and Brews is a coffee shop and bakery in Murray, just off of 5300 South on the west side of I-15 in the development anchored by Smith’s. It’s part of the building in the parking lot and occupies the south portion of that building. It may be a little hard to find at first, but just keep your eyes open and you’ll see it. After hearing some great things about this place, I stopped by after lunch a few days ago and met Jacqueline, the owner’s wife. She was very gracious and patient as I geeked out about the sweets in the bakery case and asked a bajillion questions. Which is only appropriate, because they really do have quite a few items. She’s from Uruguay but they do have a mix of South American items for sale. I walked away with a bag full of cookies and munched them bye-bye shortly after returning home. With more time on my hands and room in my belly, I headed back here earlier this evening for a dinner experience in the company of some fine Unilocalers. There’s enough on the menu that it’s almost a full-scale restaurant. This time Les, the owner, was around and he took our orders. I went with the milanesa sandwich and opted for beef milanesa over chicken. Others at the table got the milanesa neopolitana, the ñoquis, and a hybrid dish of ñoquis with a special cream and red pepper sauce that’s normally served over penne. They were happy to oblige our special requests and soon enough the food was served. I have an affinity for milanesa, and this was no disappointment. By nature, a milanesa sandwich is a simple thing. Bread, breaded beef, lettuce, mayo perhaps a tomato. They have the option to «gringo it up» with avocado and whatnots, but simple is best. The beef was tender and plentiful and the bread was just the right texture to contain the sammich. We also ordered a couple of empanadas to share; one beef, one chicken. Both were really well-made, flavorful, and a nice texture. I’d give the nod to the beef empanada, if only because it’s a little more traditional to the beefcentric culture of Argentina. As good as my sandwich was, the winner was the hybrid ñoquis dish. That sauce was really something else. And the ñoquis themselves were just right. A little different shape than I’m used to seeing, but taste and texture was spot on. I sat between a toddler and a grown woman who were both mopping their dishes up chasing after the cream sauce. As a bonus, there was live music tonight which made everything even more unique. At times they got a little loud, but it was a nice touch. Post-dinner indulgences included a small cookie and a slice of a cake called postre chaja. This is comprised of many layers including cake, peaches, dry meringue(not foamy, but solid), cream, cream, and more cream. I reached my cream threshold but really like the taste. At dinner we talked about the future of this place. It will be interesting to see how it develops. It’s so very much more than a coffee shop with a few old pastries in a case. With hot food being prepared it flirts with restaurant status but maintains a cool vibe with couches, tall tables and chairs, a big screen, and a surprisingly nice interior. So it’s kind of fun to watch them feel out their identity, although that means they’re still working out the routine. Such super nice people running it. Great space. Unique and delicious(and well-priced) food. So many great things all going on here. It may not tickle everyone’s tastebuds the way it did mine, but regardless of your own likes and dislikes this really is a uniquely terrific place.

I’m not a coffee shop connoisseur but I would think this would be the spot. Wide open area with good mix of couches, chairs and tables. The people are super friendly and helpful. Free wi-fi, not too loud, decent hours. Open on Sunday! They have a good mix of something sweet and savory. The alfajores looked amazing. Their ricotta cake is a must have with it’s two layers blended together. I would have a pic but I ate it too fast, it was that good! The empanadas had flavorful fillings and good ratio of crust to meat. This has replaced my previous choice as the go to for great empanadas. I will definitely try the milanesa sandwich next time as I was jealous watching Ryan eat his.

What a great new coffee shop! Bakery and Brews is a bit off the beaten path, located in a small strip mall in the Smith’s parking lot on 5400 South. Immediately upon entering the shop, I was greeted by the owner, Les, and his wife, Jacqueline. Both were extremely friendly and excited to tell me about the new shop which has only been open for a few weeks. They frequently bring in musicians for live music on the weekends, and it makes for a really fun environment. You have your normal coffee shop stuff here: espressos, lattes, coffee, etc. I can’t vouch for any of that, but I can vouch for the part of the shop that makes them unique among coffee shops: their food. Jacqueline is from Uruguay, and Bakery and Brews has a full menu of South American food. Empanadas, milanesa, noquis, tortas, and a huge variety of pastries makes this my new favorite stop. One one recent visit, I had the milanesa sandwich, and it was absolutely delicious. A milanesa sandwich is a thin breaded and fried steak sandwiched between lettuce, mayo, tomatoes and delicious bread. It is authentic as I remember them in Argentina. They also feature a unique South American tea called maté. Give it a try when you stop by!
