My sister and I were so excited to find a cupcake shop on our vacation in Myrtle Beach. We were sadly disappointed with what we had a Ndulge. We tried 4 different flavors and all I can say is… we did NOT like one of them. Dry dry dry cake. Heavy, shortening(crisco) greasy frosting. Flavors were off… :( Sorry Ndulge, I wanted to like you… I really did… but I can get better cupcakes at Walmart… or anywhere I’ve had cupcakes for that matter.

I had high hopes and expectations of Ndulge Cucakery, but sadly, my experience was less indulgent and more blah. We purchased a total of 7 different flavors and each tasted them. S’more, Resort, Red Velvet, Vanilla Salted Caramel, Chocolate Salted Caramel, Snickerdoodle, and Cookies and Crème The cakes were a bit dry and lacked originality and a made-from-scratch flavor. The exception was the Snickerdoodle cupcake. That particular cupcake was light and fluffy and had just the right amount of everything snickerdoodle. The cupcakery itself is simple and clean, nestled in a quiet corner of Murrells Inlet. The owner was extremely nice and enjoyable to visit with. The service was right up with the best I’ve experienced. The Bottom Line– a cupcake’s a cupcake here, but the service was, in a word, Ndulgent.

Umm… I love cupcakes. When I lived in California, I used to go to Sprinkles all of the time and I loved all of their flavors. Ndulge’s cupcakes are nasty. My sister and I tried 3 different kinds… cookies & cream, salted caramel and smores… they were all terrible. The cake is dry and tastes like it’s made from generic cake mix… I could make WAY better cake with Duncan Hines mix… seriously??? The icing is heavy… almost like it’s made with straight crisco… and all of the flavors had a ‘tinny’ flavor to the icing… I would compare it to the flavor you can sometimes notice with food coloring. We literally took one bite of each to try them and threw the rest away… Listen…if you’re going to charge $ 2.75 for a cupcake, it had better be worth $ 2.75…sprinkles cupcakes are worth every penny. I would not pay .75 cents for an Ndulge cupcake! Sorry…but YUCK I feel like I have to say something positive… so I will say the shop is cute and the man working there was very friendly.

I went in to Ndulge today and got a half dozen cupcakes. The flavors were more limited than the list on the website(you’re supposed to call to find out the weekly flavors — I didn’t do that), but it still had a great selection. I got the Jolt, Resort, Salted Caramel, Swirl, Red Velvet and S’mores. The salted caramel was excellent. The jolt was great as well, but could have used more of a coffee flavor. The frosting on both were delicious and the cake of the cupcake(so often an afterthought) had a nice big crumb and was moist. I haven’t tried the rest(besides sampling some stray frosting, which was great), but don’t doubt they’ll disappoint. The owner/managers were so nice and we will definitely be back for special occasions as well as when our sweet tooth starts aching!

Since the first time I dropped into Ndulge, I have been back at least 3 times! Here is an update on the other flavors I have tried. 1. Smores– Yummy. The flavor of the chocolate cake was spot on, I loved the marshmallow and graham elements of this cupcake too. I have lots of praise for the flavor and composition of the cupcake. Only one complaint. The cake was dry. It is the only cupcake I have had from them that has been dry. 2. Creamsicle– Great icing! just like the frosty treat. 3. Key Lime– Made with the vanilla spice cake, and a lightly flavored whipped like icing. Not super key lime-y. A more delicate flavor. 4. Hot Chocolate– This bad boy blew my socks off. This is by far the best cupcake I have had from Ndulge. Moist Chocolate cake. Creamy filling. Chocolate ganache. Chocolate butter cream. Vanilla Butter cream. I am in love. 5. Snicker doodle– Simple. Like the cookie but in cake form. It was great!
