This place is an absolute sh*t hole, at least the left-hand tower is – the one they attempted to put us in. The staff were very nice via our e-mail interactions: they allowed for early check-in/late check-out, a quiet, oceanfront room; they said they would make sure the room was impeccably clean. It all sounded good for the price of about 55.00 a night. Too good to be true… uh, yeah. The building looks a little dicey when you drive up, especially the tower on the left – it’s not glamorous by a long shot, in fact, that’s when I got my first twinges of ‘uh oh.’ The second twinge came when we entered the lobby. It was shabby, dismal, disgusting even, and it smelled like stale smoke. The two staff members argued with each other in front of us, which had us concerned, and to get to our room, the walkway to the elevator is down a dark, cement walkway past two huge open doors that house the laundry and mechanicals. All of it was so unappealing. The room they gave us was on the end in a quiet location, but it smelled awful, like stale something – I couldn’t place the odor, but I didn’t want to either. It was oceanfront, but the door to the balcony was busted and peeling. The room itself was dingy-looking and the bed had a cheap polyester bedspread thrown on top w/no blanket underneath. The entire hotel from the first look to a tour of the room was a disappointment. We asked to see another room, and this one smelled better, but there was rust all over the side of the fridge that faced the doorway, so this rusting refrigerator was your first view into the room. Gross. If you want cheap and oceanfront, this is your place… if you want something special, go elsewhere.

Although It has been several years since we have stayed at this hotel, when it came time for a much needed vacation, we did not hesitate to book a room here. Upon arrival, Jeremy, the front desk manager recognized us as repeat customers and upgraded us to an ocean front king efficiency at no additional charge. When we got to the room we were pleasantly surprised as they have started to update the rooms. The ac/heater units looked newer and is now remote controlled. All TV’s instead of the 70’s 19 inch box is a Vizio LEDHD39″ flat screen with a full Time Warner cable menu. The kitchen appliances looked newer as well. Of course all room have high speed Wi-Fi. The mattress was much more comfortable then the rock hard brick we had last time. While some things still are in need of an up grade and the kitchen needs to be better stocked, overall we were pleased with the updated room. As per usual the room, pool and hot tub and all other areas of the hotel are clean. All staff we encountered from the front desk to maintenance and housekeeping were all friendly and helpful. My wife went ahead and booked her birthday week while we were here and again Jeremy upgraded us at no charge. While this is not the newest or most modern hotel in Myrtle Beach, for the price, location, cleanliness and friendly, helpful staff you would be hard pressed to get a better bang for your buck any where in Myrtle Beach.

Haven’t been back to myrtle beach in several years. Generally the area has seen several hotel: motel upgrades and new construction. Unfortunately this property has missed out on this opportunity. I’m questioning why I stayed here in the first place, given that a neighboring property that is probably 35 years newer only charges $ 20 more per night. What I’m talking about is old matted carpet, rusted appliances, broken furniture, crappy shower, the smell of odor masking spray, hard beds and pillows, AC that does not work well, 35yo décor… And more. Save your time and money — go elsewhere. The exception might apply to hormonally charged young adults who want a place to party, procreate, pass out, and crawl to the beach(a short crawl away). Been there myself — not being judgmental

My husband and I stayed at Holiday Sands North for our anniversary vacation. It was a great stay! The hotel is located right on the beach with an awesome view. If you are looking for a simple, clean hotel with the basics, this is your place. The front desk and housekeeping staff are very friendly and that is sometimes hard to find! The hotel is right on the boardwalk and in walking distance of all the fun stuff in downtown Myrtle Beach(you will save money on gas and parking) and Broadway at the Beach is only a 10-minute drive. If an older hotel bothers you, go somewhere else. While the hotel could use an update, it is a great location, it’s clean and the staff are friendly. I know we will be back. Holiday Sands North, keep up the good work!

Adequate, barley. Old and run down. Ok for a single person. Not somewhere to take your family. Will not be returning.

It’s not the Hilton but it doesn’t suck. Very family oriented, this hotel has two towers and sits right on the water with a grassy picnic type area between the pools and the beach. The brochure says there’s like…4 pools. There aren’t. It’s a legitimate pool on an upper deck, streetside. A small pool, lazy river, large jacuzzi and small hottub, beachside. The water is clean, beach is well maintained and the staff is very nice. The rooms are very Comfort Inn-esque but with small utility kitchens that will usually save you a bit of money in the eating out department. And if you’re not a fan of staying in, it’ll at least keep you in your morning coffee(no Starbucks in walking distance, sorry) and your beach drinks cold. The super nice staff also keeps the rooms super clean and if you’re staying for a whole week you can get a great per week rate. Repeat guests get a discount and special promotions during the year(summer weeks and golf season specials). Downsides…wireless internet is only available for free in the main lobby of one of the towers or you have to pay for dial up in your room for a daily fee. The restaurant isn’t open all that often and doesn’t have a huge selection but there aren’t many options nearby unless you hop in the car and drive. Parking can be an issue, too. You might have to park a bit far in the lot across from the hotel. Make sure, when checking in, you snag a spot in the front lot. And like I said before, this is very family oriented. If you’ve got younger kids, maybe even teens, this is a fantastic place. But it’s not really for couples or spring breakers. There’s a carnival nearby and Barefoot Landing(a hub of touristy fun) is a 35 minute drive. But in SC, the beach is the beach is the beach. As long as you have a stretch of sand and a nice bed to sleep in, you should be good. Just don’t feed the seagulls!
