We chose James Cole on a recommendation. After much confusion created by me, we were warmly welcomed by Travis. We were the only ones there so it was great to have that one on one experience. If we ever get to a point when we are ready to become members, this would be the winery. For now we just bought 2 bottles of 2012 Chardonnay which both my wife and I really liked.

James Cole is a small boutique winery on the Silverado Trail. If you blink, you may drive right by it, but I urge you to not do that. Definitely make an appointment and stop in. The winery produces produces many different varieties of wine. They offer a Chardonnay, Malbec, Zinfandel, Petit Verdot(my favorite), Cabernet Sauvignon and several Bordeaux blends. I am a huge fan of pretty much all their wines. Though the wines can be seen as being ‘pricey’, I find that they are well worth the price. The tasting room is relatively small, allowing you to sit about 8 people, but there is also a tasting area in a barrel room that offers an fantastic ambiance. Both areas are quite nice though, giving a cozy yet modern feel. The team here is extremely friendly, knowledgable about the James Cole wines(and wine in general) and willing to pour wine for you to taste. Nothing is snotty or pretentious here, just good, down to earth people. I have been coming here since 2009 and will continue to visit again and again. Definitely a favorite stop for me when I am in the Napa Valley.

Super friendly and knowledgable. The grounds and tasting room are well taken care of and there and there’s a great 1959 Corvette featured at the winery. Definitely worth going if you’re in Napa.
