The Artful Baker

Looked up on internet for bakery in area, came across Artful Baker, which happens to be a couple miles down the road, worked out great. The Cake pops were a big hit!!! Definitely found a baker, and its close by.

I have placed a cake order with Karina three times. My order has been fulfilled twice.
On August 28^th, I emailed Karina asking if she would be able to make a cake for a bachelorette party on September 27^th. She instantly replied and said yes. On Sunday, September 21^st she emailed me asking if she still needed to make a cake. I replied yes, I still need one for 25 people. On Monday the 22^nd she requested the flavors I would like. I was not able to respond to her that evening. On Tuesday the 23^rd (mind you, it’s my birthday — doesn’t really matter to the story, but still) she emails me at 9 am:
Hi! I’m sorry but I’m going to have to refer your cake to my friend John.
He’s great and in Lisle. His number 630−963−0121 I’ve run into some
scheduling conflicts at the end of this week and needed info sooner. I
really need at least a week or more to properly prepare for orders.
John has a full scale bakery and can get orders done quickly.

Umm what??? I instantly reply:
Seriously?
As of yesterday, we were still on as scheduled. I apologize for not
getting the flavors to you last night — had a bit of an emergency and
wasn’t able to get to my emails.
You’ve made two cakes for me in the past — and they were AMAZING.
I’ve been raving to the bride-​to-​be about the cake for a few weeks
now. This will really make me look bad.
She then replies:
I’m terribly sorry!!! — I ran into a sudden family situation for this weekend :/​I really hate to! I have no one to help in my place and I’m in a bit of a scramble.
Huh? I don’t buy that. First it was my fault that I didn’t get flavors into her within 24hours of requesting such flavors and now she can’t make it? When I call her on it, she responds that she has a family emergency? The party is still 5 days off — can we get a work around?
I understand she’s a small business and it’s only her, but… that’s no excuse for not being upfront. I understand it’s a bachelorette party — the day won’t be ruined if I don’t have a cake. But what if it were my wedding??? That’s kind of a big deal don’t you think?
Is it worth the risk for a ²⁄₃ chance you’ll receive your order? The cakes are amazing though — I can’t knock her on that.

Karina did a wonderful job creating our dream cake. She created for us a 3 tier cake, simply designed with her gorgeous watercolor finish on delicious (and light) fondant. The best part was the unique strawberry cake flavor that was fresh and looked awesome in pictures. She made our third tier as a vanilla cake with fresh strawberry filling for our more «classic“guests. We had cake /​dessert aficionados to impress and Karina definitely came though!

She created a beautiful work of art for my daughter’s first birthday party. I have to say this is full — Service… Aaaamazing…from start to finish. I mean from the beginning… we went back and forth via email with ideas about the cake, she’d send sketches of the cake and cookies and I finally landed on one. She was always available and quick to respond. Of course I’d never tasted her cakes but had read the reviews that they taste as good as they looked and they were so true, so true.
I was just as excited about picking up the cake as I was about my daughter’s actual party. EVERYONE… LOVED the cake and I will be using her again, and again and again!

I have used Karina for her cookies before and she does a great job. The artistic work on her cookies and cakes are awesome!

She’s a busy lady, Does the cake orders out of her house. But there’s a reason why she’s won awards. She is really good at what she does. The custom cake I ordered, Came out perfect! Looked so Cute, with it’s my little pony horses on it and all. They’re we’re handmade out of fondant! The cake smelled like marshmallow, So beautiful presentation, Delicious Cake. Well worth the money, Just try to order in advance cause she is just one woman and can’t always make your cake last minute.
