Ricklin’s Hardware

We just moved into Narberth, and I’m so happy to have Ricklin’s in the neighborhood. It has a huge selection, and the staff is always friendly and happy to help. Once, when I wasn’t able to find what I was looking for there, they freely pointed me in the direction of other local shops that could provide the goods. Plus, they have their own parking lot! I love shopping at local stores (vs. big chain stores) whenever I can, and at Ricklin’s I can support a local store AND have a great shopping experience.

They have what you need — particularly large selection of loose screws, nuts and bolts and knowledgeable staff.
Occasionally, you get one of the clueless kids who «helps» you by personally picking out the wrong item for you. I wanted 4 — 5/​8″ post screws. Two were right, two were ½″ but I didn’t notice until I got home. OTOH, I walked to Ricklin’s and can walk back and bought only what I needed — not the 5 or 10 pack I’d have to have purchased at the big boxes, a 20 min. drive away.

Super friendly, helpful staff. The store is your typical old fashioned hardware store, but in the 21^st century. I’ve found what I needed every time and their prices are not outrageous. I paid the same price for a coiled garden hose at Ricklin’s as I did for the first one I bought at Lowe’s. They’ve been a huge help as I’ve been settling in since moving back to the area. I accidentally showed up 5min to closing on a Sunday needing keys for my house and they cut all of them with no complaints (I did promise to never do that again, though). They just laughed and told me not to worry about it and then welcomed me home. Highly recommend them!

I always find what I need in this store and the staff is always willing to help. I love supporting a local business like this fine establishment!

I like the friendly, helpful staff who always take the time to help me troubleshoot whatever mechanical mess I’ve made in our house – even if I need to replace only one lousy screw. I also purchase the mainstays of suburban life: weed-​be-​gone, grass seed, A/​C filters, pruning shears, etc. It’s a well-​stocked small, local businesses and is always my ‘go to’ hardware store. (Parking is also easy and convenient.)

I was looking around for a few weeks since I’ve moved to the outskirts of Philadelphia for a hardware store. I always find the usual– Lowes or H.D., but they seem huge and overwhelming, not to mention finding someone to HELP you is near impossible. Not to mention, Unilocalers are more worried about the parking lot safety then they are the actual store (red flags anyone?)
I tried Ricklin’s and was thrilled! Most smaller hardware stores don’t sell paint, but Ricklin’s sells great paint and it’s beyond affordable.
Rich and Mike (I hope I got they’re names right. Sorry if I didn’t) helped me with everything and were friendly about it. No eye roll and «what do girls know about hardware stuff» kind of attitude. They actually made me laugh! Which, is one for the record books because I can honestly say shopping for hardware does not generally make me happy. A small hardware store, with everything you need (like paint! Paint! PAINT!), super friendly customer service, and people who not only know their stuff but take the time to talk to you about it? They win all around!

I have been going to Ricklin’s for years, but one Sunday when I arrived at 1:59 (the doors were still open) I was refused service. I just wanted to buy one bag of grass seed (the one I purchased there earlier was insufficient for the job.)
It is a well-​stocked store, but if they reward customer loyalty with rudeness like that, I will just go to Lowes. I understand closing a store on schedule, but ONE ITEM, ONE MINUTE before closing would not have killed them. It DID lose them a customer.
I really prefer to shop at local family-​owned businesses, even if they cost a little more. I will try Mapes first, and if they don;t have what I want, I will go to a big-​box or just buy on Amazon.

The store always has what I need and the staff is friendly and helpful always. I rated the store a three because no matter how many times I make a purchase the extra large man who works the register is incredibly unpleasant. I can make my purchases anywhere and will now be doing so because I deserve to be treated with respect. I wish I could say that I’m demanding and rude, but I’m not. From now on he can sneer at someone else.

I’m so happy that this is my neighborhood hardware store that’s within walking distance. It’s priceless having a store like this around the corner.

Simply the best! Been going here for years now. Everyone is so helpful and pleasant! I don’t mind paying slightly higher prices over Home Depot or Lowes, since the sincere assistance you get from all their empolyees balances it out. Also, I would much rather support a long standing, reliable local merchant.

Incredibly helpful. always have what I need or have a better option for what I think I need. Which is a really great aspect of this store. THEY LISTEN and then they actually help you.
I just moved here from NYC and finding this place has not only saved me money, its also made me excited about doing things around the house. When I go in there now, Im known to some of the employees and they’ll actually ask me how something I was working on has turned out. Gotta love that.
I started out down here only going to Lowes and Home Depot, you couldnt pay me to go there now. HAte those places. Filled with angry apathetic guys pissed off about something that has nothing to do with me and usually of little to no help when I need some.
Ricklins is an incredible example of why mom and pop businesses need to exist in this country. WALMART and HOME DEPOT be damned!

A great classic hardware store. Old wooden floors, comfortable atmosphere, a lot of employees to help you out — some old, some young. They’re unusually friendly and knowledgeable. The prices are very good, and the stock is surprisingly complete. The owner, Jed, goes out of his way to help out. This has become my preferred hardware store to shop. With so many traditional hardware stores disappearing because of the big box stores, this one is a gem!

This store is amazing. Not only do they almost always have what I need, but they are SO helpful. You walk in and there’s at least one employee there who immediately asks if they can help you. And I don’t mean you have to go looking for the employee to ask a question– they come looking for you to make sure you’re finding everything. They will tell you honestly if there is a difference between brands, and if something works or not. They will also help you figure out a solution to a problem or get through a project. Most people would probably expect a «Mom and Pop» store like this to be twice as much as a large store like Home Depot, but it’s totally not! I recently renovated an entire commercial building, and all the odds and ends I needed I found at Ricklin’s, and actually saved money by doing so, not to mention time. But honestly, I would actually pay a little more for the attention and convenience you get in this store.
