Went to Chappys in Nashville, on church st. Saturday, January 5th. The food was HORRIBLE and the prices were outrageous! Spent $ 120 for a bunch of bad tasting food! Chappy was not accommodating when we complained… He only said sorry and walked off. Made no effort to rectify for the horrible food… Collard greens were salty and bitter, fried chicken was greasy, special sauce was bitter and the coleslaw was just nasty! My martini tasted like syrup. Others in the party complained to hostess and her response was«thank you» when she was told that the food was bad(total sarcasm) Don’t go there!!! This place needs to be shut down and probably will be soon!

Really just awful. He should have stuck with Ramsay’s menu. The guy can’t cook. At all.

The reviews for this restaurant are cracking me up. I love the excuses some are making. The ingredients aren’t fresh enough, TN Seafood is no good. No, bad cooking is simply that, bad cooking. I can make gumbo or red beans and rice as good as any you can get in new Orleans with ingredients from krogers. I have eaten here twice and was disappointed both times. Being from south of new Orleans I realize I am picky with Cajun cuisine, but even if it doesn’t taste authentic, it should at least taste good. If in the mood for Cajun, I’d go elsewhere.

Came here for Sunday champagne brunch with seven friends and the service was great, in contrast to a few other Unilocalers’ experiences. The idea of a Sunday champagne brunch just seems so charmingly Southern. I do love Gulf Coast food and Chappys is trying, but it’s not there yet. I’m going to blame it on the lack of fresh ingredients. While the bread and four butter sampler was delicious, the turtle soup knocked this down to 3 stars. It was unpalatable for all of us unfortunately. The entrees were also so-so. I WILL be headed back here in a month or so to give it another try, I’ve got to support such a cool place.

Food is pretty good but over priced. De core is pretty awful. EXTREMELY rude waiter… not to be stuck on price, but for the price you pay you would think they would attempt to make a better dining experience. My Experience: myself and 2 girlfriends went in… I will give it to them they seated us near closing so I wasn’t expecting the best of service… being 1 of 3 tables in the entire restaurant it took quite a good bit of time to get asked for drinks. We ordered and it was a big to do they finally came back and said that they didn’t have the wine I had ordered but then another waiter came back and said they did but they seemed agitated by the situation… On the wine front my girlfriend that ordered the Pinot did not in fact receive a Pinot… I’m definitely not a wine expert but what she got was not even close. When our waiter finally came back with our wine we decided we better order who knows when we would see him again… after we ordered I asked for the bread a 3rd time and as he walked away he scoffed and said SERIOUSLY loud enough for me to here… that was the last straw… I could deal with a degree of rude since we did come in so late but that was over the top and would not expect to be treated that way ESPECIALLY while dining out. I spoke with the manager and she said she would handle it which who knows if she did because he was equally unpleasant when he came back. There was no compensation for his actions either which was kind of irritating but not expected. The food came out it was pretty good I had the AHI tuna which although rare had an unpleasant toughness to it. The ginger veggies were good and weren’t too heavy in oil which I was very happy about. My friend had the stuffed flounder which was also pretty good but we both agreed didn’t taste very fresh. I would definitely not recommend this to friends.

We went on a Saturday night. The food was outstanding. The atmosphere was fair(it is hard to capture the NOLA spirit when not in NOLA) but the service was slow! I understand that this isn’t a rushed place but we were seated for 35 minutes before the waiter even took our order. He was very apologetic and explained that he was busy but still that is pretty ridiculous. We are rating at 3 stars simply because of two reasons. 1.) It is hard to get good quality NOLA food when you are not on the Gulf Coast. I appreciate Mr. Chapman bringing a taste of it to Nashville but I sure miss the old Long Beach location where everything was fresh! 2.) The service sucked. However, bearing that in mind, the food tasted awesome! We WILL be back.(I know a lot of people don’t believe it but 3 stars on here is actually good.)

Excellent service, good food, a little over-priced in my opinion = 3 stars. Went early(around 6) on a Saturday and there were plenty of open tables, although the hostess did ask us if we had a reservation so they apparently take(and sometimes need) them. Our waiter was very attentive, Chappy stopped by the table to say hi, and the food came out promptly. I love prime rib, so I got the blackened prime rib. It came with a crab topping, which was different but I actually enjoyed it. The prime rib was good but not as good as the 32 oz king cut I had at Sperry’s a few weeks earlier. Steamed veggies on the side were good — some kind of cabbage mix in a Cajun sauce. We had oysters as an appetizer — 3 different styles(2 of each), and they were all excellent — but expensive at $ 13 for 6 oysters. My wife had grilled red snapper with a crab topping — good, although not that memorable. If you’re in the area(not sure why you would be… neighborhood looked kind of dead), it’s a decent place to stop. But if you’re looking for a good deal, you’re probably not going to be thrilled. We spent $ 100 for two entrees, one appetizer and one beer… for a $ 100 meal, I don’t want to be scratching my head a week later while writing my review trying to remember what it was I ordered. Just sayin’.

Chappy’s has the perfect blend of New Orleans and Southern food. We ate there as a party of 8 on Christmas eve with friends from out of town. While it was not crowded being Christmas eve, I had thought it may be somewhat slow service with a party of 8. I was wrong. All dishes were cooked and spiced to perfection and the service was fast. Chappy the chef/owner came by the table a couple of times to check on us and was very friendly, as was the entire staff. I didn’t find this to be super expensive, moderate I’d say, $$. The only slight disapointment was the deserts, we tried three different ones and two out of three ok, the third, a pie was excellent. Asmosphere: warehouse posh with church pews for most of the seating, plenty of parking around back and totally handycapped accessible. Kudos!

Disclosure — we got a great deal here a while back with Groupon. Our dinner was a solid 3.5 stars, caveat — had it not been for Groupon, it would have been for a 5 star price. Nice ambiance but creepily deserted. The coconut cake made the trip worthwhile. We would not pay«full price» to eat here, and don’t think you should either.

THISPLACEISAWESOME!!! The chef and all the staff are more than friendly and warming. The chef comes out of the kitchen to greet people and verify they are satisfied with the food during their meals. If crack and meth had a baby, that would be about how addictive their food is!

Chappy was on hand to give our family of seven a wonderful dining experience that felt completely personal, impressively personal and entirely wonderful. My kids ate gator and shark and my pork chop was outstanding. My wife loved her salmon. This is the place to go for service and great New Orleans dining.

Land-lock state(TN) + seafood = expensive There’s not much you can do about the taste of seafood that’s been frozen and traveling several hundreds of miles to get to you. It’s not bad, but don’t dare tell someone from the coast that it’s good. Service wasn’t too bad. We came early around 5pm. The server was pleasant and wrap our togo food in tin foil in the shape of a swan and a crab. That was pretty cool. But it is a waste of money. It’s not their fault, but there’s not much you can do to make seafood taste the same way as if you lived on a coast. In actuality, we’re paying more for less tasty seafood. The travel costs to go to Florida or Louisiana and spent a week eating down there, would cost the same as eating at Chappy’s for a week. Seafood in TN isn’t any good. That’s just something we gotta accept.

This place is the jam. I was here for a special occasion, so we had one of the private tables with the curtains around it… After a while we realized we didn’t really need the private table since we were the only people in the restaurant. It was a Friday night and we pretty much had the place to ourselves. They locked the door behind us when we left, and it was still well before their posted closing time. Why are people not eating here? It’s amazing. Go now. The location is a little odd, I suppose, not in a typical restaurant/going out district, but it’s not THAT out of the way. Chappy himself, complete with pepper covered pajama pants and chef’s hat, came out several times to check on us, small talk, tell us stories, and he even insisted to take a picture with us before we left and to take our picture in front of the stained glass by the bar that he said would make a good backdrop. I can see why some might complain that the service is a little slow, but we didn’t see it that way. It wasn’t slow because the service was bad, it was deliberately slow so that we took the time to enjoy our food and the evening. For the most part the waitress was right there when we needed anything, but took extra time between courses and didn’t hover or rush us. It was nice. The food. was. amazing. Cocktails, appetizers, entrees, dessert… There is nothing that I could even think of complaining about. They even wrapped the leftovers in fancy foil swans. I’ve heard good things about the fried green tomatoes, but the crab cakes were calling my name. I don’t regret it. There were several specials, all of which sounded amazing, including the one I ordered. We powered through dessert even though we were stuffed. Still no regrets. Even if you don’t think you’re a Cajun food person, you will find something on the menu! Summary: Cons — location, a little pricey, empty place Pros — EVERYTHINGELSE.

Went to Chappy’s this week on business. My co-workers had really hyped this place so I was pretty psyched. I’ve spent a lot of time in New Orleans so was really excited about authenitc cajun cuisine. The ambiance was pretty blah. Nothing too exciting, Walls were very plain. Would have expected more NOLA themes around the place. We were there at 6 and the place was fairly empty. Even then, service was generally slow. The menu is generous, with most entrée’s in the $ 20 – 25 range. For appetizers, we ordered crab cakes, blackened shrimp and tuna tar tare for the table of 6. The crab cakes were very good(and that’s saying a lot for a Maryland native!). They weren’t Maryland style lump, but they were tasty, seasoned well and cooked perfectly. The shrimp overcooked and salty, which was truly foreshadowning of the rest of the meal. Even the tuna had a very salty rub on the exterior. For my entrée, I ordered the blackened redfish, which was recommended by one of my co-workers. As described int he menu: «marinated in butter, sprinkled with Chappy’s spices, pan fried to perfection and served with maMAma’s shrimp and eggplant.» I asked if the fish could be just grilled, without the butter, but the server recommended against it. Though the fish itself was cooked perfectly, nice and flaky, I’d swear there was a pound of salt in the rub. The shrimp and eggplant side was the highlight of the dinner — very tasty. This was a company meal with locals that loved the place, so I didn’t complain, but this wasn’t close to the meals I’ve had in the French Quarter or, in most other cajun places in other place. You know how sometimes you have a meal that you’re disappointed with but chalk it up to a bad night so you’ll try it again? Well, this isn’t one of them. I’m sure there are better places in Music City next time I’m there.

Okay. if you guys haven’t realized, I’m sick! My illness is that I’m a Groupon, LivingSocial, SharingSpree and whatever else addict. Of course, I had a Groupon to Chappy’s! Pros: Bread/butter Ambiance Service Cons: Grouper was over seasoned — very salty Shrimp and eggplant — don’t get it. Shrimp were overcooked and hard and $ 9.95 We asked if we could substitute our sides, the server said yes. Stupid me for thinking that it was an even swap. When we got the bill, we found that the shrimp and eggplant was $ 9.95 and the asparagus $ 6 on top of our $ 29.95 and $ 20.95 entrée. I’m frugal and wouldn’t have minded to pay for the substitutions but since it wasn’t great, I’m going to gripe. :p

My dad purchased a Groupon for Chappy’s and when I came to Nashville to visit, we went there. It was our first time at the restaurant. We had not eatten lunch, so we arrived around 5:30pm. I know that is kind of «senior supper» early, but it’s not that early is it? The place was empty. Litterally. We were the only customers and it was a little sad. While we were there, more people started to show up though. I’m surprised other Unilocalers have commented negatively on the customer service. We were welcomed by the hostess the minute we walked through the door and our server was fantastic. Unfortunately I do no remember his name, but he was tall and cute! Our server was great.(Did I mention he was cute?) Our food was really good. I had one of the daily specials. My mom loved her fried shrimp. My dad ordered a seafood sampler of sorts. He ordered the one that has catfish. He liked it but he was unable to get any meat out of the crab. All three of us loved the fresh baked bread served with four types of butter. The pimento butter and garlic butter were my favorites. Our entrees came with small house salads. I’ve never met anyone who thinks iceberg lettuce is amazing, so the salad was pretty boring. The three of us love blue cheese dressing, so that’s what we ordered. The dressing was spicey. I’ve never had blue cheese dressing spicey like that, usually it’s creamy and you taste the cheese. I found the spices to overpower the natural flavor of the cheese. My entrée(one of the many daily specials) was served with«voodoo sauce» on the side. Basically, if you want to kick your meal into spicey hot territory, add the voodoo. For my taste, I found a little dab would be enough. I thought the food had a nice pleasent flavor without the voodoo sauce as well. In other words, they do not rely on the sauce to provide all of the flavor. The serving portions were absolutely huge. I asked for leftovers in a doggie bag and was so delighted when our waiter came back with my food wrapped up like a swan! I’ve only seen that done in the movies! Really fun. I agree with the other reviewers who commented on the décor; it is a little strange.

My husband and I went to Chappy’s for the first time for our anniversary. Overall we were pleased with our choice. Brian the bartender makes a good martini and tells even better stories, we enjoyed him. I had quail with jambalaya and my husband had blackened redfish) were very good. The dessert, coconut cake with caramel sauce was to die for! We had made reservations online. The hostess was going to seat us right away as if we had no reservation; and that would have been fine, but I had mentioned our anniversary in the reservation as I had heard they try to make events like birthdays and anniversaries extra special. I reminded the hostess that we had a reservation and sure enough, she noticed that it was our special day. She told us they would like to set up one of the alcove tables for us and that the wait would be worth it. We went to the bar and were there for about half an hour. Several times the hostess made eye contact with me and smiled. Once she even said, «Doesn’t Brian tell great stories?»(Yes, he does; but we were hungry and didn’t need two martinis on an empty stomach). Finally my husband said, «Is our table ever going to be ready?» She said, «We’re just waiting for y’all». We thought that was pretty lame. She should have come to us and said, «You’re table is ready whenever you are» or something like that. She seemed kind of dippy in general. The food was good, good enough that we’ll probably go back. But the hostess and wait staff seemed inexperienced for a place with those prices. Some training would do them a lot of good.

Too bad this place isn’t near me! Recommended to come here for Cajun food while in Nashville. Looked at their menu online, and saw crawfish étouffée. I started drooling, since I haven’t had that delicacy in a really long time. I wanted to be reunited with a roux of spices, crawfish, and yup, more crawfish. However, it was NOT on the lunch menu! Thankfully, the server understood that I desperately needed to satisfy my craving for this dish. The chef said yes to my delight, and I ordered fried green tomatoes since our server said it was a specialty. How fantastic! It was smothered with crawfish(score!), Hollandaise sauce, and grated parmesan cheese. This was my teaser to my étouffée, no doubt. And then the dish came, and ITDIDNOTDISAPPOINT! I wish I could have eaten the whole thing in one sitting, but I told myself that I could save it for later. I resisted the temptation, and brought it back home :) Don’t focus on the décor or the paper-covered table. Enjoy the food!

An upscale Cajun restaurant with a large selection of seafood entrees and a decent selection of landfood. The starter loaf of bread comes with 4 balls of butter whipped into proprietary mixes: Garlic, Strawberry, «Alligator» and plain butter. The Alligator tasted like it had some BBQ powder mixed in, it tasted like BBQ potato chips. They were all good. The turtle soup had a tomato base that did not do justice to the turtle meat. I will have to try another turtle dish in my future. Anyone know where I can get some deep-fried turtle tail? The scallops came as ordered, broiled with some spice on top, accompanied by cajun veggies. The dish was very good, savory, buttery, with a nice contrast to the slightly crunchy vegetables. I understand that the lamb chops were also very fine; they looked appetizingly good. The service was also spot-on and I appreciate all of the restaurants employees who had to come in and work the day after Christmas so I could enjoy a good meal!
