I had the California and it was absolutely delicious and a refreshing way to start the day — their salsa is so good I wanted a jar of it! The line was frightful at first, but it moved fairly quickly and food came out pretty quick as well. Loved the atmosphere and set up of the restaurant, was very relaxing.

I went there last Sunday(1⁄10) for breakfast before working the boat show at Music City Center. I was there a little after 10am, and it was the small crowd I’d expect at almost any place on a cold Sunday morning downtown. The place had an instant«hipster vibe» to it. The kind of place a bunch of friends opened on a whim and had it actually be a success. The ordering system is a bit odd, in my opinion. I looked for a wall-mounted menu, but found you had to grab a laminated copy from the counter. I went for a menu, and was asked if I was ready to order. I mentioned I’d never been there before, and the response was just, «Oh, ok!». Cheerful, though. I decided on the whole wheat pancakes with farm eggs and turkey sausage, with a black coffee. I only partially enjoy the idea to pay up front, but here you’re still served your food, unlike a place where you pick it up yourself. Having paid up front I’d added a small tip, not realizing there was still someone bringing the food out. Was I supposed to tip twice? How can I know if it was worth the tip? The one who took my order was not so welcoming. You’d have thought it was 5am. I tried to get him to smile, and was barely able to. The one who brought me my food was much nicer. As for the food: it was good. I’m not sure if it’s a «thing» to put food on plates almost too small for it, but I did my best to not make a mess. I ate the sausage and eggs first to make room to scoot the pancakes over. The«house-made syrup» was way, way too runny. I use just pure maple syrup at home, and wished that were the case, here. Overall it was a nice breakfast. Really just the process was a bit foreign to me, but I’m sure it just takes getting used to.

This is a very charming downtown café spot with excellent beverages and food! I had the California breakfast and the seasonal herbal tea called In the Pines. The breakfast meal was incredible! AND…(wait for it) Gluten Free!!! They had GF sour dough toast covered with two over medium eggs and a side salad of avocado, sprouts and salsa. The tea was light but had a lot of flavor and refreshing mint. The atmosphere was very relaxed. We enjoyed a 30 minute chat afterwards. It was a great Nashville morning.

Great spot for coffee or lunch, no so much for dinner(unless it’s a light one). Came here for lunch while visiting Nashville on a business trip and got the«Gail» salad which had a delicious homemade lemon vinaigrette dressing. The walnuts were toasted and yummy. The strawberries complemented the salad perfectly. The portion was large enough so I felt full. The chicken didn’t taste fake or microwaved, but instead fresh and about a palm-size cut up. I enjoyed a cup of hot ginger mint tea in a mug. It was the taste of a blend of green tea with ginger tea – very soothing and nice. They had about 10 teas all kept in jars behind the register to choose from which I liked. Having such great success at lunch, I decided to try this place for dinner(menu open after 5pm). I ordered the«Chicken Breast» which said it had grilled chicken over seasonal vegetables with grilled tomatoes with a balsamic glaze. When I got my food(after waiting 10 minutes – not bad), the meal looked tasty, minus how many onions there were compared to other vegetables. I took a picture to show how many were left at the end of my meal. The chicken itself was a breast with wing attached and was cooked well, but I did not care for the rubbery skin. The vegetables(squash, zucchini, and broccoli) were all cooked slightly crunchy, my favorite. THECREAMSAUCEONTHEVEGETABLES/CHICKEN WASAMAZING – garlicky, but not too salty. There was a lot of pesto on top of the chicken that was very salty though. I pushed most of that off. Overall, this place impressed me with their quality of food. The ingredients are fresh and don’t leave you feeling heavy or gross. They have many GLUTEN-FREE items to choose from too!

Awesome. I had the pork tenderloin with autumn hash. Fast friendly service. Pork was cooked perfectly. Veggie hash was delicious and warming on a cold winter night.

This was the first restaurant or bar that my girlfriend and I visited during our Nashville New Years Eve trip. We were mostly initially interested because of the name, which is awesome! I’m pleased to say Frothy Monkey did not disappoint as it was a preview of the well cooked and crafted food and cocktails that we enjoyed throughout Nashville. For instance, I was pleasantly surprised that the mushrooms in my omelette were whole, shitake mushrooms and not of the canned variety like is used at disappointingly so many brunch places. The staff are really friendly, warm, and authentic which was very appreciated. The space is varied — from what I could tell, there are three distinct seating areas in the restaurant. We sat on the top floor which was a cute space. If I was a local I would definitely make this one of my regular spots for breakfast or just a quick spot of coffee.

Ambience — I wi give this an A. hipster vibe, jammy cool music(at least on the morning I was there). There is an industrial vibe to the architecture which I always love. Location — Probably A minus, I am not usually fond of downtown or crowded area for that matter. this coffee place is situated in downtown area so come by if you are around. With a bunch of large tables in here, you can easily find a spot to work, read, or just chill to pass time. Come up to the 2nd floor, there’s more seatings, room is more spacious, and you can overlook out to the streets or downstairs. Food — Drink — average at best, I will give this a B minus! The cappuccino I ordered tasted bland and the foam looked really messy, like someone just dumped the foam on top of my coffee urghh. I ordered Frothy Monkey for breakfast which is 2 toast, 2 eggs, and an option of bacon or turkey sausage. I went w turkey sausage which looked like it came out of a frozen package(pretty sure it is)

I confess I’m mostly giving this place a 4 because of the name and also the ambiance — it’s such a cool place! Very artsy creative décor, seating, not your regular coffee shop. They have lots of FM memorabilia you can purchase. The latte I had was not memorable, except that I think they put a tad too much nutmeg into the holiday drink. Recommendation: Drop in if you’re around, but it’s not a destination sort of place.

Read the reviews and wanted to come here. I can see how a couple reviews called this place hipster, it was a down to earth/chill atmosphere. But I wasn’t happy with my food. It was very bland. I had the frothy monkey that included: eggs sunny side up, bacon, and wheat bread(I was given multigrain by accident and didn’t feel like asking wheat again). The eggs were eggs, they were good. It’s very hard to mess up eggs. The bacon was good, the bread had no flavor. I also ordered a side of waffles, it tasted like nothing. I added butter and syrup, still no flavor. Wasn’t a fan.

An hour early for my appointment, I had a great omelet and a terrific coffee here at Frothy. Sitting in the back, I was undisturbed while I ate my breakfast and then sat writing Unilocal reviews. The place is a little«hipster» but that’s okay. You can tune them out and simply enjoy a great latte. Very comfortable vibe. Great service.

I still give them 5 stars because we ate there and it was super good. But… I ordered coffee with my wife, i asked for the light roast. As the girl was pouring my cup, she realized they were out of light and poured me a dark roast. Then when i asked about it she said it was light. It was not and i had to throw it out. Not cool but i dont want to hurt the rating.

This restaurant receives 5 stars because it is a great and wierd place! The menu is ridiculously fantastic! I say BRUNCH. Yea. Brunch. Go there for Brunch! Have a cup of coffee. Frothy Monkey Coffee. The baked goods… FRESH…um…if you eat baked sweets then grab one with your Java! I picked up an expresso cookie. It was huge, the right amount of softness, and impossible not to eat the entire cookie. And my husband did! I brought one home for him. He’s a happy man! My friend ordered a sandwich on gluten free bread freaked baked by Frothy Monkey. I included a picture because I don’t recall which one she ordered but it was delicious as were the chips and salsa that came with it. I ordered an egg white omelet with spinach, onions, tomatoes, and mushrooms. No cheese. A turkey sausage party. I have to admit, the flavor wasn’t anything to write home about. I left hungry which isn’t a good thing, honestly, but it may be my fault because I turned down the cheese and the egg yolks. Regardless, it’s a cool place. Downtown Nashville. Go there!

It was ok. I had high hopes for the pancakes, being the sweet tooth that I am. Order at the counter & pick up your own coffee b4 getting a seat. The food will be delivered to your table.

Had crab cake sandwich here and it was delicious! I am not sure what it was but the dressing was special! The chips on the side were little staled though… Also ordered a turtle latte and it was equally enjoyable!

Great cup of coffee while we were on the road. This place came recommended by a friend who previously visited. It’s the kind of coffee place where I could settle in and hang out for awhile, though that wasn’t an option on this particular day. Coffee and service were both good. The art hanging around the back area of the café was impressive as well.

You know I am really trying to love this place. Why the 3 star review? Ordered a Bloody Mary and loved the presentation. However, very weak. Not saying the amount of alcohol is important in the drink, but if you are someone that doesn’t like tomato juice and only drink them in bloody Mary’s.well then that is a problem. The waffle was delicious. but very very tiny compared to the price. I ordered fruit as a side and wasn’t a big fan. In my opinion, the actually fruit was cut too close to the skin. This presented a very hard bite/chew especially on the honeydew. Atmosphere is totally cool, and I will continue to give this place another try.

This was a great find for breakfast. A wide breakfast menu from bagels to oatmeal to omelets. Bonus coffee and Bloody Mary’s. You do have to order at the counter, but they will deliver food to your table, but you gotta work for your coffee. My friend got the oatmeal and it was over flowing with fruit, brown sugar, and milk. Plus they had tshirts, coffee mugs, and water bottles for sale.

Solid spot. My wife & I were looking for a more healthy option for lunch than your traditional southern cooking. Intro: The Frothy Monkey. The space is huge & the idea of ordering yourself & they bring it to your table is great. My wife got a breakfast sandwich(which they serve till 5pm=huge bonus points for us) & I got the Royal sandwich. Both were fresh and huge & generous portions. Their home-made wheat bread for my sandwich was so fresh and one of the tastiest breads I’ve had in awhile. We topped this off with iced coffee & iced mocha monkey and a cowboy cookie and a snicker doodle. The baked goods were large portions, fresh, soft, & chewy. We couldn’t even finish the cookies, so we’ll have a nice treat for later. Definitely recommend this spot for quick service, delicious food, and ability to spread out & lounge around to get away from the Nashville heat. We will definitely be back. PS — anything with Monkey in the title I’m a fan of, but I hope they franchise closer to me; otherwise we’ll be back.

We came in at 5ish p.m. before heading to an event downtown. We were surprised by how big the place actually was. There are two seating sections downstairs and more upstairs. You order at the counter like any other coffee shop. We ordered off the lunch menu as the dinner prices seemed really high for a coffee shop. We had the tuna sandwich, salad architect(design your own), and yogurt and bananas off the kids menu. The sandwich wasn’t thrilling, lacking flavor. I did like that it came with corn chips and a yummy salsa. The salad got rave reviews. The kiddo enjoyed his yogurt and bananas. For the three of us to eat, plus juice, a sweet tea, and a coffee was $ 33 which seems high to me. The sweet tea was served in the wrong glass, which I found out when the runner brought me a refill. We would probably come back if we needed to eat downtown, mostly because of all of the seating.

The teas on the front counter are really good. I had an iced Lavender one and was a big fan. One of the best parts of this place(besides the goodies) is the space itself. It’s fabulous. Good location and tons of room. Nothing is quite so trite as the great coffee place with only two seats permanently taken by hipsters with Macs. That wasn’t a problem when I was here. I definitely recommend it. Plus, it’s next to The Arcade which has awesome art studios on the second floor – a twofer of awesome.
