John A’s Restaurant

Website said open till midnight, but we walked in at 1040 and the waitress opened with «Just to let you know we close at 11 so do you want to order, the kitchen closes in 15 minutes». So we left.

We ordered the coconut shrimp, fried pickles and prime rib. The prime rib was over done and overall just not a good piece of meat. The fried pickles and coconut shrimp were pretty good.
The service was very fast.

We stopped in for lunch and enjoyed it. I ordered the prime rib sandwich with onion rings and the person I was with got the catfish plate. Both dishes were very tasty. The catfish was excellent! However, for what it was, it was a bit pricey. $ 16 bucks for a catfish meal and $ 14 for the prime rib sandwich with 5 onion rings. It was a pleasant experience, but I don’t think I’ll be back.

If you need some greasy food this is the perfect place. The service was good and friendly. We were there in between popular meal times. My burger was good and actually cooked medium rare. It’s hard to find a place that doesn’t overcook a burger.

I would love to give them a 4 but the music in the inside of the restaurant was so load that we went outside to eat. Good music outside. Somewhat loud outside also.
Good food and service was good but a little slow. The two waitresses where doing their best as it was busy and more people kept coming outside after going inside and the music made them leave. I will go back if I am visiting the area again.

Traveled to Nashville overnight and got in late. John A’s has great food, nice atmosphere, and even though I ask not a country music fan I still enjoyed the place.

If you’re looking for some below average catfish this is your place to go. Below average food, below average service, and a great ambiance.

Great little spot to eat when hungry and don’t want a bunch of delay. This dive is got character, so don’t come for a bunch of flash. Good people, good food, good music. Besides the Dodger photos I can’t say a bad thing about this place. #beatLA

Great food, good service, excellent live music. You should definitely put this place on your list of restaurants to visit while you are in Nashville.
I probably would not have visited this establishment if it were not for the good reviews on Unilocal.It was definitely worth the time. Prices are very reasonable.

Stopped here with a colleague for a bite to eat as our driver and the front desk staff recommended this place for it’s prime rib (their specialty). We walked in to a packed house as a very good live band was playing and the décor was very Nashville.
Started with the chicken livers and they were cooked to perfection and very tasty. Next, the main course, Prime Rib — this is what all the locals have been talking about and I’ve been excited all day for this moment. When the waitress brought out the prime rib, it felt like someone kicked me in the gut, I was super disappointed. It was paper thin and very overcooked. I flagged the waitress down and she immediately agreed it was well done and went back to the kitchen for a proper rare piece. Well, same thing happened and she even said this is «our» rare. If it wasn’t for my colleague enjoying his catfish, we would have tried another establishment.
I do not recommend this place for it’s specialty, Prime Rib, but might stop again to enjoy the music, appetizers and drinks as they were the highlights.

poor service and steak not cooked the way i ordered it. they serve wild game burgers etc. which is weak and gimmicky.

Wow… Killer music in a small venue. The food and drinks are great… Did I say I liked this place? Had the Nashville Chicken last night, just came in for a drink tonight hear the band, and was blown away. The music was just OK last night, but tonight the quartet just killed it.

What a find! Shuttle driver recommended this place. Live music, good food and drinks. Danny the bartender took great care of us and made us feel at home. Skip the singing staff at the other place and go here.

If you want non-​touristy Nashville experience you need to check this place out. Especially during the live music times

I went in for a late lunch, around 3pm. I was the ONLY person in the place, and said to myself, «I made a big mistake here.» Boy, was I wrong. While their menu may be small in comparison to other pub/​restaurants, the food was great. I ordered the Catfish Plate, subbing a side salad — which was pretty impressive/​fresh for a side salad — for the white beans. For $ 12, I got a large piece of fish, a cornbread cake, coleslaw, and a salad. Great price and delicious. Also, they have $ 1.50 pints of PBR all day until 6pm. Other people started to trickle in around 4, so it was more of a pub atmosphere.

A local recommended the Reuben at John A’s and we read on Unilocal about the onion rings. Ordered both and was extremely satisfied. Save room for the bourbon brownie: rich brownie, rich bourbon sauce, and tasty vanilla ice cream.

I don’t ever remember being so frustrated with such poor service in a long time. It was close to an hour before our food was brought out from the time we arrived. No drink refills. My chicken topped dinner salad came with no chicken. Hostess seated our party of 4 at a table with 3 chairs then left. Finally, a waiter brought another chair after about 10 minutes of me standing around. Not a good visit.
The house salad was way over priced at $ 7. It was a tiny side salad.

The ribs were so good I couldn’t stop and finished all the rack… I might not be able to walk out… bring me a stretcher! The huge baked potato loaded with butter. Oh gads, what have I done?

The food is really good. The service is okay. The atmosphere is very laid back.
I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich & asked for a loaded baked potato, reported to be the «Best in Nashville!» They never brought the baked potato to me, but I was totally okay with that because I was stuffed!
We got caught in traffic after hitting the grocery store, so I ate some Doritos on the way in the car. By the time they brought the grilled chicken sandwich, the potato didn’t sound like a great idea anymore.
The guy I ate dinner with ordered some onion rings as a side. The waiter told him if he ordered the appetizer, he’d get more and it would cost less, so that’s what we did. And holy cow! They were so good we ordered a second plate.
Overall, a great place to go for an easy, affordable, relaxed meal with your friends.
