This is probably the best improv I have ever seen in my life(tied with Upright Citizen’s Brigade in New York City). Where as some improv shows can really be awkward with poor taste or just niche jokes(AKA: beating to death sex jokes), this group really has insanely amazing creativity. What I really like about this is that every show is tons of group participation and the stage is small, so there really is no such thing as a bad show. Oh, yes and they always take advantage of the opportunity to add some Nashville flair in it(AKA: local knowledge), just to give it a home town touch. Trust me, it is worth every penny of the 10 dollar ticket(got it, in LA there are 3 dollar improv shows… but this is better than them all!).

Wonderful show. Whenever in town on the 1st or 3rd Saturday we catch the show. Lots of audience participation. The performers are so quick and witty.

I’ve seen I think three of their shows now, most recently the one they did with Laura Hall of Whose Line Is It Anyway fame, and would recommend them to anyone visiting Nashville. Improv shows by their very nature can be hit or miss, but to me it’s about those one or two brilliant moments out of left field that make it worth it, like a guy choosing to play the part of «the feather» in a reenactment of Forrest Gump and doing so more hilariously than the characters with actual famous quotes. I laughed more at that show than I have at a few UCB shows. The cast is incredibly friendly and approachable and I even got some career advice and book recommendations from Laura Hall herself as one musician to another. The only thing I would say could be improved is their rotation of cast members between games. The cast is much bigger now than the first time I saw them, and though this is mostly a good thing, I’d just caution them to make sure they cultivate the talents of the newer people. There were one or two cast members in the last show who, despite being onstage twice for big group games, never actually got the opportunity to say anything. You know how in Whose Line, Colin, Ryan, and Wayne have very different styles and after a while you start rooting for your favorites to be picked for certain games? A few of the veteran NICers have very distinctive personas(One of them reminds me a little of Jack Black, another of Pen Gillette, for instance). I’m waiting for the rest of the cast to get to that level. But I’m sure they will!

I’ve seen this troop a few times and I have to say wow! The last show I went to has a special event held with«Whose Line Is It Anyway» pianist Laura Hall! What an awesome night! Even my baby boomer parents liked it! I never knew Laura Hall was such a great person! I was to shy to talk to her after the show 8P but her and her husband were great on stage with the cast! The best part is beings this is Nashville, most of the troop can actually sing! I’m so glad this group is finally getting noticed! I went to one of their shows about a year ago and there was only about 12 people in the audience. Now they sell out Bongos After Hour Theater almost every show, and its not a small theater for Nashville! This is my best friends and my go to for Saturday night if we want to see a live show that’s not a music venue. Music is great, but you do need a break now and then! She is a nanny and she really appreciates going out and doing stuff with«grown ups»! Though the troop does ‘try’ and keep it PG-13! ;D Hehe! The only time I see people not enjoying the improv is like when I sat next to this guy, who sat with his arms folded the whole time, with«Ok, make me laugh…» on his face, this dude was determined not to laugh under any situation! Ironically, it made me find the show that much funnier, because of the contrast this guy was compared to everyone else! He did chuckle at points though, so he’s not 100% made of stone! Some of my favorite shows is when it’s musical themed, or when they have a guest troop from Chicago/Boston come down and join on stage, I love seeing two different troops styles mixing! Also, short form shows! Love this troop! Please don’t start coasting and become terrible! ;D
