Redlands Grill by J. Alexander’s

This place is ehh. Super busy, large restaurant, weird eclectic menu.
I opted for the special tacos (steak tacos) and they were mediocre at best. They were about 60% shredded lettuce, 30% tortilla and 10% steak. They really weren’t very good, but I guess I should have known that tacos at a restaurant like this wouldn’t be very good. Oh well.

Excellent service — food was hit and miss
My wife had the Steak and fries and loved it. I had the Ahi Tuna burger and did not love it. Get a table next to the window overlooking west end and the park. Best seat in the house.

Disappointing. Can’t drop the salad for the seasonal vegetable. Suggestion from the server was to throw away the salad and pay $ 5 for the carrots. At that point, I had a $ 44 check. Who says «no» to this customer request these days? Just silly.

Great atmosphere but don’t get seated in the back booth by kitchen. It is very noisy! The food was great…
*smoked salmon dip (my husband thought it was spot on… I don’t care for salmon dip regardless)
*steak burger good but lacked a true discernible flavor. A little cumbersome to eat but was just ok. Will not get again as too many other things to choose from
*fish tacos-​excellent!!!
*steak ‘n’ fries-​standard. fries are very thin, crispy and worth getting again
*very best chocolate cake-​a little dry and not worth the calories. The taste was lacking but the ice cream was yummy and presentation awesome.
*carrot cake-​GREAT! second time I have had it… moist, bursting with flavor and was served warm with amazing icing.

I come here a lot. The food is always up to par. The drinks are a hit or miss. The service is great as well. It is one of my regulars for diner. I think it is most def worth it.

Today was my birthday. I chose J Alexander’s to celebrate with my family. It turned out to be the worst decision. First, we called to make a reservation since we had a party of 6. They don’t take reservations, so my sister & a friend arrived early to get a table or to put our name on the list. They were told 3 people had to be there so they weren’t even given a spot on the list/​pager. So when my family arrived we were told we would have a 35 – 45 minute wait. There were NO other people waiting. As that length of time went on, we saw many 4-​tops open that could have been pushed together and a large booth in the back where we’d celebrated before. When asked, we were told someone else would be sitting there (Reservation? Where was that party?). The manager had instructed them to leave the table open. They had also chosen to seat all of their parties of 2, 3 & 4 in the large booths. Needless to say, we were not pleased, and went to Maggiano’s with NO wait in a packed house! Far better service. We will not be back to J Alexander’s!

This is my go to! I have never had a bad meal or bad service at this somewhat swanky place. The tacos are great, the burger is great, the salad are great, the martinis are great… you get the point. Oh, and I left out the Carrot Cake — its also GREAT! Go here — and get someone else to pay if you can!

Only had apps and drinks… STRONG drinks. But, we were happy with our little place at the bar.
The tacos are a must. The steak is great quality and I find it rare to really enjoy a fresh taco. We also got the deviled eggs. Our eggs were piled high with that yellow/​yolk filling and topped with some of the most delicious bacon, but other than that, nothing too special.
Bartender was attentive and we were able to pass a few hours chatting at the bar in no time at all.

Love, love, love the chicken pasta soup! Fresh squeezed orange juice is amazing!

Croque Madame is the one best sandwiches I’ve ever eaten and the shoes string fries awesome, the best taste ever!

Went at lunch time and were seated quickly. The restrooms were spotless and overall the restaurant felt clean and well kept.
Mindy was a wonderful server. It was nice to see that over the years the quality and quantity of the food as well as the level of service have remained excellent. I had the garlic steak with Mac n cheese and a side ceasar salad, husband had the pork tenderloin with mashed potatoes. Even the side salad was a large portion. So he helped me eat it :-) both meals were delicious.
We will definitely be back next time we are in town. we haven’t been here in almost 5 years and you never know when that much time has passed how much things can change. This place is amazing and we love coming here when we’re in town.

Always consistent and tasty. Service is always top notch and food comes out quickly. Would have to time my visits just right or the wait can be long. It has everything from their steak, prime burger, ahi tuna salad and Thai Kai salad. Never a bad meal.

Service was meh. Food was nothing special. Steak Burger was a bit bland. Most entrees $ 22 – 25. Crab cakes were okay, but «market price.» The market they are shopping at must have stuffed those puppies full of cocaine because they were $ 38… Beer selection is tiny, but they are trying to be upscale wine and cocktails.

DIVINE! We had all sorts of random things, from sushi to salad to fries. Everything was beyond delicious!

Sisters night out! Had a amazing time! The food was everything! The cook was a sure professional and prepared the food amazingly. The service was to brag about. I will surely be returning in the future with friends and family. Pricing was worth it.

Pretty standard American restaurant chain. I do like the vibe inside the restaurant. Things i’ve had here that we’re great are…

Others things i’ve had on the menu were hit or miss.

The menu has changed quite a bit since my last visit. They do have a smoked salmon dip that is to die for. It’s prepared to perfection. The lemon drop martini is also a great drink to have as well. I will stop in next time while in town.

Bartenders were rude and dismissive. From someone who is in the industry I would not come back because of my front of house experience. My app tastes great (they never asked if we wanted entrees which we did) so props to the kitchen for a great app!

This place is superb. It’s perfect for a date night or special night out. If you go to school around here, this is a great place to have you parents take you!
On a weekend, make a reservation or wait a bit at the bar/​lounge area. The cocktails are artfully crafted. I loved the Gin and Ginger. I had the crab cakes (all crab — the way it should be!) and mac and cheese. It was so delicious and rich. The service was attentive, and the atmosphere was very inviting and relaxing. I’ll be back on another visit soon!

Stopped by here for lunch since I was staying next door and the place was packed with business professionals, there seemed to be a lot of lunch meetings happening. I ordered the Ahi Tuna Salad and it was very good. Tuna was cooked perfectly and the dressing was nice. It could of used a vegetable or two with it besides the lettuce and Ginger but overall it was good.

One of my favorite classic Nashville dinner spots. Never disappoints. Great wine selection and fantastic menu.
Try the Mexico City Spinach Dip. UNREAL. You’ll be shoveling it in with both hands. The burgers are amazing, the salads are even better (Alex’s Salad), and their salmon is always impeccable. Desserts are fabulous.
Great location, gorgeous windows overlooking West End and wonderful ambiance. Parking attendant to drive you via golf cart when needed. A top five pick for a business lunch, for sure.

I was staying at the nearby Marriott for business and came her twice in two days because the food and service were great.
I ordered the veggie burger with the summer corn both times.
I am new to ordering vegetarian fare (only 3 – 4 weeks), so I have to take care not to be too optimistic in my expectations of too harsh in my review of vegetarian choices.
With that said, this veggie burger was pretty good! I took the top bun off, requested a few more pickles and ate it open-​faced, with a fork. The summer corn was amazing-​try it while they have it, regardless of what you order.
In addition to these visits, I have made this restaurant a frequent stop when I stay on West End for business. In the past I’ve always gotten the French Dip sandwich, which is absolutely the best of its kind.
I know, I’ve gone polar opposites from piles of prime rib to veggie burger, but that’s how I roll. Well, that and a need to eat healthier. Hey, even the «Man vs Food» guy had to back off from the beasties.
Finally, the servers here are some of the best trained that I’ve seen anywhere. Listen to the nuances in the words they all use and the eye contact, their communication with each other — they’re good!
So, great food AND great service gets my vote every time!
