Sanford & Son is a little pricey for a thrift store, but the array of furniture and appliances here is exceptional: they have tables, chairs, TVs, VCRs, stereos, bookshelves, washing machines, and more, not to mention all the clothes, figurines, and other home decorating items. But the most impressive part of the store is the basement at the very back, which is packed with sofas, chairs, and coffee tables. There must’ve been about 15 sofas in there. Unfortunately, they’re all priced higher than I’m willing to pay for a used couch($ 75+.) Most of the merchandise at Sanford & Son is in good shape. Sanford and some friends were watching TV in the back, so it definitely feels like a family-owned establishment. Sanford is open to bargaining, and I managed to get him to agree to let me pay $ 45 for a desk that was originally priced at $ 65.

I can’t believe this place actually exists. When I passed it on the street, there wasn’t even a question of whether or not I’d stop. Sanford & Son! I’m a total Redd Foxx fan. Ok… to be perfectly honest, I gave this place that third star purely because of its name. There really isn’t anything else very special about it. The quality and selection of Sanford & Son is a lot like New Life Thrift, which I reviewed a couple of days ago. It’s just sort of like a big pile of stuff several people pulled down from their attics. They have a small selection of DVDs and records, and it’s a good place to look if you want a second-hand Teddy Pendergrass album or copy of «How High.» Sanford himself(I guess that’s his name… maybe not) is very nice, and he greets everyone warmly. I did feel like he was keeping an eye on me pretty hard, though. The store also has vast amounts of things like boomboxes, suit jackets and ceramic figurines, but there just wasn’t anything special going on. I guess it’s possible that I’m getting a little burnt out on thrift stores, but this one didn’t impress me.
