Hertz Rent A Car

Small location on a corner lot but fairly good car selection despite the smaller store. The cars are clean and there’s a gas station right across the street for filling up, which is very convenient.
Be warned that this place upsells the insurance HARD. They are still calculating your ‘savings’ on top of the rental price long after you have told them ‘no’ 5 times. When you continue to tell them no, no, no way, they look at you like you have personally assaulted them and then make you feel dumb for not spending the extra $ 100+. I’m covered by my own insurance so I really don’t need the aggravation and wasted time.
Now that Avis is closed down the street, the insurance hassling is enough where I’d rather make my way to the airport to get a car than deal with the folks at this local store.

They picked me up at Mossy Collision in National City, called me y he day before to confirm that insurance company approved the rental (woman hit my bumper). They were nice, especially the lady at front desk. Good car also. No problems, no complaints.

I needed to rent a car last year since mine broke down during a short trip to the San Diego area. It turned out that the best rate I could find, after scouring all the agglomerated discount car rentals search sites, was from Hertz’s own web portal. After piling up as many discounts and coupons I could qualify for and securing a reservation from the Hertz website, I made my way to the Sweetwater location. The reason I came to this location was because these city locations don’t charge the usual airport taxes. So if you don’t need to go to the airport location, you can save a few bucks. The Sweetwater location itself is tiny and somewhat awkwardly situated on a corner lot. But the manager Arthur even complimented me on getting a great rate as he wouldn’t have been able to do better in-​store. As it happens, the cheap-​o car I’d reserved wasn’t available, so he automatically upgraded me. Everything was hassle-​free.
Where I experienced some inconvenience was when it came to returning the car. Since it was after-​hours or on a day they don’t open (Sunday), I called the central Hertz number to ask what I was to do. The Sweetwater location closes its gates, so I couldn’t even drop it off in the lot. The operator put me in touch with the San Diego Airport Hertz location since they’re open ²⁴⁄₇. The manager there made an exception for me and said that there wouldn’t be any extra airport fees. After dropping off the car, I went inside to the spacious office and made sure everything was as promised. Again, no hassles.
Overall, a great Hertz customer experience.

Not sure why all the negative reviews on this place, but the ladies there definitely helped me out! I came in, and they were closed, I told them I needed a car because my car was getting maintenance done and I needed it right now. Instead of telling me «sorry we’re closed» they invited me in and said «well let’s get you that car.» They were very helpful, I don’t really remember there names but they were awesome! Thanks guys!

I had a reservation for 2:30 and requested pick up at 2pm. They never showed up. I called and they said hey have no driver avaliable to pick me up. 1 hour and a half later they finally pick me up. Ended up being late to my flight and missed the family gathering. Hertz is the worst.

They fully refunded my money. I got my refund after contacting the corporate the second time including my original email. They were a hassle but eventually with a lot of pushing they came through.

I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. When I picked up my rental, it was dirty and smelled inside. When I pointed this out they acted like they knew and said they would give me a discount when I returned the car. The brakes squealed the entire time and the steering wheel shook like the car needed an alignment. When I returned the car I was given a $ 10 discount for taking a dirty car. The manager acted like he was doing me a favor. I’ll take my business elsewhere.

Friendly and helpful this staff really goes out of their way to help get u on the road as quick as possible. Thank you Hertz team!

Negative 5 stars if possible. Stay away from this location it is the worst rental place in San Diego. Poor customer service, understaffed, bad communication and will not process payment correctly and end up sending you to collections. DO NOT TENT FROM HERE! I’ve been here twice and noting has changed. Manger is Bruno and he is lost. No idea how they continue to let this location run like this with no regard to customer experience.

I was supposed to be picked up at a designated time at a nearby dealership while my car was being repaired. They were a no-​show. When I called, I kept being directed to a voice mail system but when I tried leaving a message, I was directed to the general Hertz national phone number. I called my fleet vehicle management company to see if they could get through and they had the same problem. However, they were put in touch with a Hertz supervisor and told that this facility’s phones were down and that I would be called by a Hertz corporate representative. That never happened. 45 minutes later, I was finally able to get through to this office and I was picked up.
While my reservation was getting taken care of, the idiots working behind the counter must have forgotten I was there because they began talking to each other about how they did not want to answer the phones. Through the course of their conversation, they were joking around about how this guy named Frank (I’m assuming he’s something on the lines of a regional supervisor because idiot number 1 mentioned how Frank is never around) called them up and angrily told them to answer the phones when they rang. They then speculated that 5 minutes after Frank called them, he must have called to ensure they were following his instructions because someone called but did not say anything when the phone was picked up.
But nevertheless, after involuntarily eavesdropping on that little piece of coworker bantering, the young lady helping me kept asking her coworker for help on the computer. Over the course of the instructions, he just casually happened to curse while explaining how she needed to hit a button. He either didn’t realize I was still standing there or did not care, but she made a quick apology to me after seeing the look on my face.
The car itself was unreal. Dirty, scratched up, dinged, and in need or maintenance. The representative helping me went out of her way to apologize but never offered a better vehicle. I didn’t ask for a new car as my fleet management company was footing the bill for the car and I only needed it for roughly 24 hours. If I were a paying customer, however, I would’ve demanded a better car.
So if you want to experience unprofessional, lackadaisical, careless service, go ahead and come to this Hertz location. Otherwise, avoid at all costs.

I wish there was a negative star. This place is retarded. I was in a small crash and my car has been in the shop. I was supposed to get picked up by one of their people and the day of they never showed. I called again the next day and finally some guy picked me up. He gave me a Kia rio that was red w tan seats. The car smelled like poop and the inside was disgusting. My insurance is paying for this and I thought I will just grin and bare it… Thinking I would get my 2014 car ASAP. It’s been about 24 days and finally I could no longer take driving in a disgusting car that looked like someone had taken for a joyride and then dumped and rented to me. I went to the hertz in downtown and even the guy said he would be emberassed to rent that car out and that he agreed that it shouldn’t have been rented to anyone. He allowed me to switch… Which was nice, but seriously it’s just disgusting to rent crap like this. I’m posting photos of the interior…

I tried renting a car a month ago, but when I got there the guy that was helping me out said that he will give me an upgrade since I rented a subcompact he’ll give me a 2 door Mustang. Then I ask if it would be the same amount since I already prepaid online. He said no it’ll cost me more. So I said never mind, I’ll stick with what I chose. Then he kept punching me for it the Mustang. I finally said no and I ask where’s the car that I rented. At this time someone is returning a car and he said: this will be the car. (OK). I asked him if there’s another one since I’ve reserved this ahead of time. He said no. Then he said that since the car just got there that he’ll give us a free car wash (but get this) WE HAVE TO TAKE IT ACROSS THE STREET AND DO IT OURSELVES). Then he went on about adding more add ins and again I said; No more additions, everything’s paid already. Then he said that he’ll have to hold $ 250 from my credit card until I return the car. Of course at this point my husband and I are furious. Finally I said forget it just cancel everything. He laugh and I asked him if my money will be put back in my account. He said I have to call the corporate.
Well here’s another delightful story. I contacted the corporate and I was able to cancel everything. Good right. I gave it a couple of days and I emailed the corporate and asked when will my rental fees be back in my account. I gave them all the info they’ll need and I was given this answer. «Your question has been received. Please be aware responses are sent in order which they are received. If you need immediate assistance please contact your location reservation center.» One week later still now answer. I’m a pretty calm person, in some ways, I sent a second email and got the same response but still no one called or emailed me back.
Well to save you guys any trouble, go to Enterprise or AVIS. They are very helpful, friendly and no extra shenanigans. If you pay everything online that’s that. No extra cost. Bottom Line — HERTZ SUCKS.

I use this Hertz whenever I need to make a trip up to LA. I make my reservations online and whenever I pick up the car, I’m not in their offices for any longer than 20 minutes. The guys do push for insurance and liability during pick up, I usually comply since I don’t think there’s anything wrong with added coverage. Especially since I was going to LA… let’s just be safe.
My last rental was kinda hilarious, I requested a Toyota Corolla (or similar) online, and when I got there their similar was… a Chevy Impala!!! Um… okay? How is an Impala is ‘similar’ to a Corolla? But the guy explained that it was similar in price, so I wouldn’t be charged extra. Sweet! The car was amazing!
There was a time where there was an issue with my rental another time I used this location, but they really went out of their way to get the car to me and not get throw me off schedule.
I also like that somehow I always get charged way less than what the online reservation suggests, even with underage fees, liability, and insurance I spent $ 20 less in person than what the online reservation.
But why dock half a star? That parking lot is freaking small! I have witnessed it being practically impossible to even get into the lot bc all of the spots were full and cars filled up the spaces in between so you’ll have to park on Euclid and close to the 805 overpass.

This place sucks! Super slow, poor customer service, pushy to sell you on extras, and it feels like they are acting like they are doing us a favor by renting from them. All the employees look miserable.

BEWARE! READ AND BELIEVE THE REVIEWS PEOPLE!
I chose this dump for my rental since my car is in the shop by Mile of Cars. I am now told there are no cars… but I have a reservation? I booked thru Kayak.
My options are: I can either wait around 3 hours and a car may become available or go pick one up at the Downtown location, yeah ummm how am I going to get there?!!
How do they allow cars to be reserved if they don’t have any available? I do not believe this is a one time occurrence either.
This whole place is sketchy. Avoid it altogether.

I had to take my car to the repair shop 6 blocks away from this location I called ahead and try to have the rental car ready but they said to me that it was impossible because they needed a credit card I try to give them the numbers over the phone because I was really in a hurry but they couldn’t do anything for me. I ask the pick up service they offer and couldn’t get it either because it was to early. When I got there they told me that I have to wait for my turn, and that is how some people just ruin your whole day, I missed an appointment then a meeting and the rest of my day was a nightmare just because this people is leasy and do not want to do their job.
Seriously you guys need costumer service training and if you are not happy with this job just quit and get one that gives you happines

Showed up and they had no cars left… wow

Our rental was in good condition, however there was an issue with the total cost of the car. We contacted their customer service to fix the problem, and spoke with Chris, an employee, who was very pleasant and courteous. He listened to us and was so helpful in trying to help us to get it resolved.
However, we were turned over to the GM, Melissa, all the while thinking we were still all on the same page, we were in for a surprise. She was rude, and very adamant that we were in the wrong. She being the GM, we were taken aback by her brash attitude, and refusal to try to rectify the situation.
Had Melissa taken a different approach when speaking with clients, perhaps I wouldn’t be giving Hertz a 2 star review. In fact, Hertz ONLY deserves a Single star, but since Chris is on their service team, they indeed gained a second.
Melissa, if you do happen to read this, (which you should since it is a true testament of your managerial skills of the establishment you are in charge of) it would be ideal that you learn how to speak with your clients in a cordial manner, instead of one that is deliberately rude, and utterly tactless.

Gosh, I want to give them a good review, but just no attention to real details.
Let me say that I didn’t pay a dime for the rental, which was a GREAT Toyota Sierra Mini Van with XM radio and GPS, etc. The Van itself, freaking awesome.
The location, a real nightmare to get in and our of, and SO small. There was no where to park our other car while we waited for the rental. NOT fun when you have kiddos.
Then, they said they had to give us a clean car. Now, I’m not totally sure what that means because … after waiting 25 mins for them to take the car to the carwash, it comes back and I open it … only to find three empty juice boxes, a banana peel, goodness knows what other kind of funk in the carpet, before I’ll even left my girls get inside. So while, they have to provide me a clean car, I guess it doesn’t mean the INSIDE, which is WAY more important to me than the OUTSIDE. What a waste of water!
So, we don’t live too far from the location and where hoping they could give my hubby a ride home for the ¾ mile. It become a LOT of drama, so he ended up putting his bike in the back of the van and rode his back over to the shop to pick up the car.
Other than that, they provide cars and upsell the car insurance!
