The Gray Goose

The Gray Goose is a great place for small gifts, gag gifts, stocking stuffers, holiday gift exchange items, or to just kill some time. And apparently everyone in Nevada City thinks it’s a great place too because it is always packed in here.
They have packed so many racks and shelves in here that it is extremely difficult to move through the store without bumping into something or someone. Some of the racks are placed in awkward locations that make them hard to get to. And some of the items on the lower shelves can’t be seen because there’s no room for you to bend down.
I hardly ever end up buying anything here because I just don’t want to deal with the whole checkout process. I usually do a run through, get thoroughly annoyed having to wait for other people to move, and then promptly get out of there. So then why 3 stars? Because I always come here when I get the chance, I like coming here to look around, I like what they have to offer, and I like that they are a local business. I think they would be much better off moving to larger shop (I know this location is larger than the last one, but I think it’s time for another upgrade).

Cute little eclectic gift shop with toys, games, books and jewelry. The shop owner/​manager is very sweet and she has an adorable fluffy white and wonderful dog with a similar disposition. My wife and I purchased some gifts here for family and friends. We’re very pleased with our purchases so far.

Have you ever asked yourself «where would I even find something like that»? Well ask no more, because you can find it here! This is like a «grown up» version of Spencer’s but better. The place is chocked full of wacky, zany, and weird stuff you never knew you had to have.

The Gray Goose is a great little shop full of weird and quirky gifts and books! I always pop in to look at everything. They have a great selection of fun items.

This store is like a collection of every strange dream I have ever had and I absolutely love it all. If you don’t make it in here while in Nevada City, deem your visit a fail. The workers are as fun as the merchandise and the merchandise is pretty friggin’ fun. Everything from books, to jewelry, to stationary, to toys, to plates, to key chains, to… well, you get the idea. The adjective «quirky» doesn’t even begin to describe some of the products. Some things are hilarious, some strange, some inappropriate, but all awesome.

Wonderful variety of kooky, artsy and downright breathtaking stuff n things. I always shop here for birthday presents, gag gifts and simply out of curiosity to see what new oddities Stewie has found to adorn her sweet store with. I’ve walked out with some of the most unique and lovely jewelry as well as weird wind up toys! Accommodates all budgets…

iI can spend hours in this place. Everyone and everything has a great sense of humor and personality. Absolutely awesome.

Dragged the family in, then couldn’t get them to leave! Wonderfully procured shop, and who knew I could find all my Dia de los Muertos needs in Nevada City? Bought a silly book, an art piece to go in my ofrenda, and a ridiculous Tootsie Roll air freshener. But could have bought the store out… jewelry, sunglasses — you name it, they’ve got it. Fantastic! And sweet, lovely woman who works there!

I live in Nevada City, and of all the stores in the down town area, I love this place the most. Stewie has an incredible selection of useful, bizarre, and completely hilarious and unnecessary things that just pull on your heart strings to buy buy buy! My last purchase was «In Me Own Words: The Autobiography of Big Foot.» A hilarious little picture book telling the story of Big Foot’s biggest trials in life. I also love all of the amazing jewelry and super useful kitchen supplies, from beautiful mugs to brass knuckle meat tenderizers.

I purchased from their online store and the experience was so personal. Their customer service is impeccable! If I’m ever in Nevada City I would totally visit the store.

I love The Gray Goose! It’s stocked with stuff you never thought you would see… yet you’re glad you did. There is an abundance of quirk here. The lady who was working there at the time (forgot her name) was AWESOME! She knew what she was doing!
If you’re easily repulsed by the unconventional and strange, go away. No one wants you here, anyways.

There is nothing I can say to describe The Gray Goose except that it is AMAZING… unless you are a conservative stick in the mud who gets offended easily! Stewie and Jana are rockin’ & if I ever grow up, I want to be as cool as they are! If you can’t find a gift here, for yourself OR someone else, then you have issues and should stick to Target gift cards!

Like the Archie McPhee catalog, this store just is the best for the off-​beat, whacky, unique, humorous misc. items and I have to show great restraint when I make my yearly visit to the store or I would be greatly fiscally compromised! I almost purchased «What your Poo is Telling You» but instead went for the Angry Girl «nice wallet… get your own, bitch» wallet, as I knew that if I left the shop with out it, the angy little girl on the wallet cover would haunt me the rest of the camping trip. The very fact that she is carrying Gumby dolls makes me give this shop ten stars, but Unilocal only allows me five.

If you want good honest food at a good honest price go to the Gray Goose… home cooking at its best! You can tell the food is made fresh… the portions are huge… We had prime rib and a rib eye… either plate was enough to feed two… We had steak and eggs for breakfast… LoL…

Holy CRAP,…I cant believe I didnt Unilocal this place sooner, but Nevada City didnt seem to be on the Unilocal radar a few months/​years back. MY BAD (Sorry Stewie!!)
I love this store so much that I have to avoid it… she has the coolest stuff, funny as ASS stuff that you could never find anywhere else. I split my time between Nevada City and the bay area, and still this place has stuff I have never seen! PLUS, the jewelry, oyyy… dont even get me started. Its overwhelming and fabulous. I seriously would prefer shopping here more than any other store anywhere, EVER!!! I send every friend that comes into town there IMMEDIATELY, its beyond fun!!!

This store IS Stewie. Stewie is the wonderful owner of this very politically incorrect fun fun fun store! It is as colorful as Stewies brightly multi-​colored hair. I have known Stewie and her shop since the early 80’s, when it was on another street. She moved to her new location about a year ago with more room for fun stuff. It will take you hours just to see it all. The store is not that big, but it is jammed full of all kinds of cool, tacky, kitchy, some slightly racy things!
From fab tin lunch boxes to refrigertor magnets on how to do a vasectomy!
Car freshners such as Jesus the parking Saint, to don’t vote repooplican! Showing an elephant taking a dump. Now you get it?

FUN FUN FUN store filled with folk arty stuff, wind up toys, earrings, irreverent, quirky, hilarious, un-​PC cards, books, signs and toys to satisfy the wackiest part of you.
Kit Kat clocks (cat clocks with rolling eyes and wagging tails) in every color possible, hanging party lights in strings of maneki nekko cats, chili peppers, hula girls, etc.
Dia de los Muertos figures, tons of Archie McPhee type stuff and things you never knew you wanted, ie like a set of racing grannies in walkers, wearing tennis shoes.
Owner is sweet and fun loving. We went there two days in a row!
