We read the reviews and decided to give it a try. I have to say we were very disappointed. We tried several things. Egg rolls weren’t bad. They were not special, but not bad. The crab rangoon was pretty good compared to other Chinese restaurants in the area. It’s too bad that it was all downhill from there. The orange chicken tasted good, but the crust was mushy. It was had a very soft, doughy texture as if it had sat in liquid too long or wasn’t fried correctly in the first place. The bourbon chicken was a disaster. I’m not exaggerating when I say that most of it had the texture and consistency of beef jerky. It was hard… literally. Oh, and watch out for the bones. That was a surprise. Finally, we had the pork lo mein. It wasn’t awful, but it didn’t taste like pork lo mein. Not sure what it tasted like, but not what it was supposed to taste like. That was a failed experiment. We won’t try this place again.

Good, but I’ve had better in town. My normal spot was closed for the evening, so we thought we’d give Mandarin Café a try as it was getting late. Food was ready on time when I went to pick it up. The order was correct and reasonably priced. Service was affable. I just wasn’t that impressed by the food. We tried the crab rangoon(lots of these, BTW), the Mongolian Beef and the General Tso’s Chicken. Niether of the entrees had much flavor; the General Tso’s especially. In a pinch, I would eat here again, but not my first choice.

I’m from a nearby town and had and appointment in New Albany. I was looking for a Chinese restaurant with fresh veggies for lunch, so I searched for one with my phone. I was not too far away and decided to give it a try. When I pulled it at 12:20PM, the parking lot was empty except for one car. I thought, «If no one is here at lunch time, it must not be very good», but I had seen other 4 – 5 star ratings so I decided to give it a try anyway. I was not disappointed. I ordered Hunan Chicken with steamed rice and an egg roll. The egg roll was homemade, not the frozen kind which I’ve had before at several places. The vegetables were all fresh and crunchy in the entrée. The presentation was lovely as well. I’m glad I took the chance and found this little gem. I’ll be going back the next time I’m in the area!

I recently moved to New Albany and was looking for a new Chinese delivery option. I read the reviews that the meals have lots of fresh veggies so I decided to give them a shot. My 18 month old loves veggies so I thought this would be a good new option. I was not disappointed! Tons of fresh veggies in my Kung Pao chicken and they were very obviously fresh veggies and not the prepackaged canned type. The food was fantastic and well priced. Delivery took longer than quoted, that is the only reason I didn’t give them 5 stars!

This is the best Chinese take-out in New Albany! They use fresh vegetables and great ingredients!

The Mandarin Café is off the beaten track but well worth visiting! The quality is outstanding as is the quantity. You won’t find fresher veggies than here and they’re big chunks; not diced up. Meat portions are also generous. Prices are fantastic, especially given the quality of their offerings. If you can’t find it on the menu, you need to put your readers on. Plenty to choose from and there are more domestic options for the picky diners. I’ve been there three or four times and have been very impressed every time. Don’t let the name of their best appetizer throw you: Pu Pu Platter… it is pretty much a meal, itself! A mix of all types of goodies. Bring an appetite!

Very disappointing. The bourbon chicken was not at all what I expected. The lunch portion gave me 5 small pieces of chicken and way too many bell peppers and onions that were too big to even eat in one bite. It’s hard to believe that fried rice is white. Instead of frying it, they dumped a bunch of raw bean sprouts in for crunch? Will not be going back. It took them 30 minutes to fix this dish and I even called ahead.

Very good. Fresh. Flavored well. So far have had General tso chicken, chicken lo mein, and steamed dumplings. We do carry out but they do have inside seating but nothing fancy.
