Great atmosphere. The menu had variety and the food was fresh. I certainly recommend this place.

I really think this place is having an identity crisis. Overall the restaurant looks great on the outside and the inside is pleasing also. Has separate dining and bar areas, all menu items can be order on both sides. On this night we were there for live music and dinner. For apps we had the beer cheese with pretzel bread and crab cakes the cheese tasted great but the bread was cold and burnt. I guess their pretzel buns are frozen and thawed at some point, which would explain how the bread could be burnt and cold. The crab cakes were excellent, they were firm and flavorful with a kick. Not to mention they had a sweet and spicy sauce that enhanced the spiciness of the of the crab cakes. The entrees had mixed reviews, i had the café burger on a pretzel bun. Once again the bun was brunt and the burger was just okay. The bacon mayo, was mayo with bacon in it not very impressed with the taste. others had the cranberry grilled chicken salad which was delicious and the filet which was also tasty. I’m by no means a stiff or snob. I love whole in the wall bars but you have to choose what you want to be. Now to the identity crisis. As i stated earlier this place had live music the night we were there in the bar area which is where we dined and had drinks which were tasty. So the live music was a guitar player taking request and playing his own sets also, he was really good. Which matched the overall feel and food the restaurant provides. But it also seems to be a local biker hang out after 9pm. The staff seemed to know these guys very well as they were drinking and hanging out behind the bar with the staff. They were loud and some obscene Language and over the top dancing at times. But nothing too crazy, just Not what you would expect when eating here. My suggestion would be make a choice you can’t be semi upscale with good music and be a biker bar. Don’t think we will be back until they make a choice, because i like to know the vibe of the restaurant before i go.

The food was good but for the price I would rather eat at Outback. I had Salmon a little to squishy for my taste. My husband enjoyed his steak. Roasted potatoes were good. Dessert was soggy.

While there was nothing wrong w our meals, the servers seemed swamped beyond imagining and everything was painfully slow. The crab cake app was nice – not stellar, but certainly edible. The fish and chips was adequate, the southeast chicken pasta was good but really had no zing– rather tame to be called«southwest.» The buckeye cheesecake was tasty but uninspiring, the coffee was lukewarm and undrinkable. Won’t be rushing back– I’ll eat there again when another night comes along when driving to Louisville seems daunting.

Love all the local New Albany restaurants. Café 27 is by far the best food I’ve had. Everything was exceptional. From the kids meals, to the appetizers, to our entrees. We had made reservations, and our table was not ready yet. The owner was very accommodating, and even gave our table a round of drinks for free. They even let our kiddos dance on stage, lights and all. We’ll absolutely go back, and this now my new favorite New Albany eatery.

I found Café 27 while on a quest to satisfy a craving for beer cheese. The first thing that we noticed when we walked in the door is that the restaurant is really small. Because we were a two top they sat us at one of two high tops in the middle of the restaurant, and directly in front of the kitchen door. We spent the entire meal with wait staff squeezing around us and other patrons looking up at us. Awkward! However, our waitress said that they are planning to expand into the next storefront in the near future. Since we were on a quest to satisfy my beer cheese craving we ordered the beer cheese bowl as our appetizer. It had a really delicious spicy undertone and I enjoyed the pretzel bowl that it was served in but the cheese was really thick for a dip. For entrees I had the Apple Cider Chicken Sandwich and the boyfriend had the Café Burger. I’m a sucker for apples in the fall so my sandwich really hit the spot. The chicken was grilled but juicy, the apples were crispy and sweet, and the cider vinaigrette had just enough sourness to balance the sweet. His burger came on a pretzel roll and was served with bacon mayo. Yes, I said bacon mayo. Overall a really good meal at a lower price point that many of the other restaurants in downtown New Albany.

After reading the recent good review in the C.J. we had to give this local restaurant a try. The good news, the appetizer was very good(fried grit fritters). My dinner of salmon was outstanding, some of the best that I’ve had in a while. My wife enjoyed a dressed up salad. Also, good portions. The bad news, our waiter failed to mention that Café 27 had specials. The other waiters spoke of tonights special, Cioppni, which looked great on the other tables. But even those waiters failed to mention the price of the special, the menu stated ’market price’. The next issue, I ordered a bottle of beer that came with a chilled glass, but the glass was either dirty or stained in several places. I didnt use the glass. Also, our service was slow. This is a small restaurant that I’m pulling for but the waiters were not, in my view very personable. I will go back and only hope that these are the growing pains of a newer restaurant. My wife stated that the food was great but the people seemed like rookies.
