I have driven past this place many times and on this miserable 95 degree day I wanted a cold draft beer so I stopped by. There is a private lot for parking and two picnic tables with umbrellas for out door seating. The sign in front of the place says flavor of the day is cold beer. The inside is wi dive décor with lots of dark wood. There is a pool table, gambling machines and a ATM. When you walk in you are hit with cigarette smoke smell which is weird because you can’t smoke in bars, it must be soaked into every inch of the surface. There is three small flat screens and a full bar with four tap beers, two domestic and two better choices. There are drink specials and happy hour offerings. The place is clearly loud locals boozing it up. The bartender and locals are not overly friendly to new faces. After ordering my drink the bar tender never said another word to me. The locals go he man on shake of the day because they try to tear down the bar with every shake, who can smash the bar the loudest I guess. Lake front IPA would be my first beer and I was physced but quickly disappointed because it was warm on a 95 degree day WTF. After the warm beer and and the not very friendly vibe I decided to move on.

I drive by Nickels every day and read their marquee sign and it always cracks me up. Well today they put up a happy birthday sign to me so I had to stop in. What a great place. Friendly bartender, cheap drinks, and a dive bar ambience that is perfect. You can’t fake any of this. Totally classic WI bar! Go here, you’ll love it! I got 5 free drink tickets, so I’ll be back for sure! Thanks Nickels!

It’s a townie bar, make no mistake about it. Wood panneling, beer signs, packer signs and it’s pretty smokey(2÷10÷2010, before the smoking ban in WI). The place is pretty hit or miss depending on which drunks are there. It’s a great place if you’re bringing your own party(people-wise) with a number of games, plenty of TVs and a internet-based jukebox with any music you want. If you’re going their solo and you’re not a contractor and an alcoholic(or those aren’t people you want to have high-fiving and/or hugging you) then steer clear. This is more true on weeknights than on the weekend.
